Another day, another rejection. If I knew trying to find a job in this economy would be this difficult, then I would have just started an OnlyFans account. I am kidding, of course, I am not that desperate for cash, but I do respect the woman who uses that website as a source of income. With another rejection under my belt, I am currently depressed due to my feeling worthless.
I sigh.
It's normal to not land a job after college, but I have been out of college for three years now. At this point, I'm afraid that I will end up working for Wal-Mart for the rest of my life.
Screw this!
I am not about to feel sorry for myself. I have to follow the advice my dad, Rocky Balboa, always tells me when I am feeling down: It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about getting hit and getting back up. Or something like that, I actually never watched the movie. The point being is that I can't give up and will just have to continue looking for an opening somewhere.
But before I head down the rabbit hole known as job-hunting, I decided to go out for a walk.
The weather outside is pleasant spring with no clouds in the sky. Kids are outside playing in the park because it's spring break.
What would I give to go back to my youth? No responsibilities, no bills, no debt, no shitty boyfriends, and more importantly, no more time-wasting looking for work.
About five minutes into my walk, I hear an unfamiliar sound. It was so loud that I could hear it over my music. I take my headphones out of my ear just so I can hear clearer.
It sounds just like a whale, but a whale that's from another planet. The odd noise even made some of the drivers pull over so that they could hear it better. That noise is coming from above me, so I look up to see if I can spot the source where it is coming from. And what I saw flying up in the clear blue sky filled me with complete and utter dread.
A giant cross descends from the heavens as if it was an angel or something. It would be appropriate seeing as a cross is a religious symbol for the Abrahamic religions. But I don't get the feeling that my soul is going to be saved. The gigantic cross is pure white lined with gold and decorated with seven rainbow-colored gems dot each side of the cross. In the middle of it sits a blue humanoid face.
I don't know what freaks me out more, the fact that this thing has a fucking human face or the creepy sound that it makes. Eventually, all traffic has come to a halt to stare up at this thing. I guess they see no point in trying to escape this thing. No matter where we run to, we know that we cannot outrun this thing, at least on a subconscious level.
All I can do is curse my bad luck. First I found out that I got another job rejection and then aliens decided to invade today of all days. Well, at least my day couldn't get any worse than this right?
Wrong.
As if reading my mind particularly, the giant cross thing shoots out thousands of needle-like objects. It was so much that it completely blacked out the sky. People desperately trying to escape the needles run past me.
Idiots! Don't they know that running away is pointless! There's no way in hell anybody can escape those, so I just stand there watching as the black needles draw closer. They are so loud, that it sounds like a bond going off in a thundercloud. The needles are even louder once they hit the surface with incredible force. By some miracle, I don't get hit by any of the raining needles. But that means that I get front rows seats to the bloody calamity,
A woman running with a small child in her hands was the first person I saw get hit by those black needles. She and her child were completely destroyed by those needles, leaving nothing of their existence besides their insides. An old man got his head completely knocked off by pure chance. A yellow school bus was riddled with those giant needles. And looking at them closely I would say that they are approximately twenty feet long and two feet in diameter. The blood of the children is leaking out of the bottom of the bus. The bus driver who abandoned the kids got his limbs destroyed before being obliterated.
Despite being so thin, those things are incredibly destructive. Each area they land on explodes as they landed on a field mine. Cars are shredded and buildings alike are completely torn to shreds.
It seems like some blood has splashed on me during the carnage. I start to laugh, I think that I am losing my mind. All of the death and destruction around me and I was completely unharmed from all it. I don't know if I should be considered lucky or cursed.
The giant eldritch cross already flew by, as it continuously fired those giant needles of death. With that thing gone, I can feel my breakfast coming out the way it went in. I expunged all of the contents of my stomach out onto the grass. The giant needles dissipated into black dust and mixed into the air.
The black dust burns my eyes, throat, and lungs. It feels like my insides are being grated into dust and then toasted on the stove. I cough violently, trying to expunge it from my body. I run away in a futile attempt to escape the poison, but seeing as it is everywhere, I get nowhere fast. The only haven I have is back at my apartment, assuming that it's still there. I cough out blood as I continue to sprint to safety. My legs feel like jello and my eyes are filled with tears that I can't really see where the hell I am going.
I can hear something heavy behind me as if something was chasing me. I glance over my shoulder to see what's chasing me and I nearly shit myself. It was a fucking giant ass tiger on my ass like he was some guy desperate to get my number. It wasn't a normal tiger either, as it was black with blue stripes, four red eyes, and metal claws.
Just as you can imagine, I can't outrun the damn thing and it pounces on me. Man, I sure do hope that somebody will come to save me right about now. I really, really, REALLY, don't want to be killed by a giant evil Garfield!
Of course, nobody comes to save me, that'll be too convenient. The tiger's claws are mere inches from tearing my face off but the only thing I can think of is: did I turn off the light in my apartment?
