Chapter 3 - Chapter3

#Chapter3

Lillian’s gaze went to Shane immediately, he was still looking at her in shock, she looked away from him and sighed, /"anyway, I am just thinking about selling the shares, I haven’t gone into the process yet. Perhaps there is a way you can change my mind?/"

/"You speak like you already have something in mind, just tell us,/" Margaret asked, her gaze not leaving hers.

/"I want an office, don’t bother about a secretary, I already have one. I want to be included in everything concerning the company and I want to be introduced as one of the directors. I will be spending a lot of time in New York so I will need a place to pass my time till I go back to Georgia. By the time I will be leaving, I will be able to say if I will be selling the shares or not./"

/"I see,/" Margaret smiled and Lillian returned the smile to her.

/"That’s not an unreasonable request, what do you think Shane?/" Mr. Johnson asked, bringing everyone’s attention to him.

/"Yeah, yeah, it’s okay,/" he answered, not really knowing what he was agreeing too.

/"Shane,/" Margaret called.

/"It’s alright mother, it’s better than having her selling the shares to Xavier Gray,/" He replied.

/"Since it is settled then, let me know when my office is ready,/" she stood up, /"it was nice meeting every one of you,/" she put her sunshades back on, picked up her handbag and smiled to everyone. Her bodyguard opened the door and she left not really caring about anyone else in the room, her assistant followed her, along with someone else.

/"Lillian,/" Shane called in the hall and she stopped, she nodded at her assistant and her bodyguard and they looked at Shane before walking away.

She took a deep breath and turned to him, taking of her shades, she asked, /"yes Mr. Lockwood?/"

/"Really? Mr. Lockwood, is that so?/"

Lillian heaved a deep sigh, she didn’t know what to say so she just stood there. They stood staring at each other for a good two minutes before he spoke, /"you left. You left before I woke up. I thought something had happened to you. I waited, even though a part of me was telling me that you have abandoned me, I still waited and I searched for you and all the while, you were in Georgia?/" His eyes were mirroring his pain and she avoided looking in them.

He looked at her from her head to her toes, he shook his head softly, /"I almost didn’t recognize you. Was this why you left? Because you thought I have nothing anymore so you left and got married to a man that was old enough to be your father?/"

/"Shane…/"

/"So you remember my name, I thought it was Mr. Lockwood?/"

/"We need to talk./"

/"Really? If I hadn’t run after you would you have thought we need to talk? Nine years, I have been waiting for you for nine years and you returned married?/"

/"Shane…/"

/"You are married! And to a sixty five years old man? Really Lillian, all for money? Are you really such a slut?/"

/"Don’t talk to me like that!/" She warned, her eyes a blazing fire.

Shane scoffed, he wiped his palms on his face and he paced to and fro on the hall, /"money, that was what it was all about right? Money! You believed I couldn’t offer it to you anymore so you left and latched onto the next available thick thigh you could find. You didn’t even bother about his age. Lillian you married a sixty five year old man! All for money!/" He screamed, /"how could you? Every day I tell myself that there must be a reason you left, every day I tell myself that you will come back and you did come back after nine years but as a widow to a sixty five years old man!/"

Lillian stood, she knew better than to talk when he was so bitter, so she kept quiet. In as much as his words hurt her, she didn’t let it show, she has gotten tougher, stronger and more good at hiding her feelings.

/"Mrs. Williams,/" he said like the name disgusted him, he nodded after a while, /"fine, I look forward to working with you Mrs. Williams. And if you are interested, I have a lot of old men who are rich and in need of a young wife like you. Your kinds are insatiable when it comes to money, so let me know when you need another match,/" his gaze stared at her for a short while more before he turned and walked away.

Lillian’s gaze followed him until he disappeared at the other end of the hall. She took a deep sigh and blinked continuously to keep her tears at bay. She will understand his anger for now, it was their first meeting after nine years. With time, she believes he would let her explain her reasons. Thinking to that, she put her sunshades back on, turned and matched to the elevator, her heels trotting on the quiet hallway.

When she got to the reception, she tried not to think of how she was embarrassed on her first visiting there, the lady on the reception area didn’t look like the one she met then, turns out she wasn’t working there anymore. She breathed out through the mouth and left the building, outside was her assistant, he quickly opened the door of the white limo for her, she got in and he did too. Her driver started the car and slowly, they drove away, her eyes stayed at the disappearing building.

/"Is that the end ma’am?/" Philip, her assistant asked.

Without taking her gaze out of the disappearing building, she answered, /"no Philip, this is just the beginning. We have just conquered phase one, it is time for phase two./"

/"And What about Mr. Lockwood? There is something about him…/"

/"Don’t worry about him,/" she finally looked away from the window and looked straight Philip, taking off her shades once more, she added /"let me handle him./"

Philip nodded, /"yes ma’am./"

Lillian smiled, finally, she was back to New York, the land that gave her so much but still took just as much from her. Now she is back but not that weak timid teenage girl, now she was a boss, men tried to kiss her feet. She wills power, a power she knows just how she use. Oh they should just wait, she was just getting started.
