While wearing the shoes, Murmur walked to James and rubbed its head against his hands affectionately. The cat’s appearance made James halt his movements. For some reason, he calmed down and stood up. His eyes remained on the cat a bit longer before they moved up and met a pair of amber eyes.
The woman had her arms crossed over her chest, but it looked more like she was hugging herself. She wasn’t smiling, wasn’t trying to tease him. She was unusually quiet. Her gaze kept James pinned in his tracks, unable to move. Or maybe he didn’t want to move. Maybe he didn’t want to leave yet.
