Chapter 14 - A Sickness Long Forgotten

(A/N): I want to practice writing romance for once, so before we go the harem route, I plan to spend a volume or two, maybe even three trying to build a main female lead and perfecting her so I don't fuck up the other female leads, as I plan to make her character something fresh, not original, but something you might rarely see either, I'm sick of elf girls, some princess or bandit situation, and even vampire girls, god forbid I love them, however, let us give some other race some love as well, and yandere my guilty pleasure, but I think they're too easy to write for a main female lead that is, I wonder how does a potential Yandere Mc would be, that would be hilarious watching Nyrthalan stalking from the shadows, hmmm... well still deciding, of course, I'm trying hard to make the story balance with action and romance, I want to challenge myself this time around, so the four dere types for the four main heroin are going to be a Kuudere, Kitikudere, and Haraguro, and a Mayadere character, apart from that please enjoy the story, as this is my personal favorite that I have written so far.

"Oh. those are some freakishly large trees, the largest I have ever seen, to be honest."

I said with slight awe for the sight before me, seeing it was mesmerizing in more ways than one.

Yes before me high in the sky I could see an entirely new terrain coming into my view from a very far distance, and upon closer inspection, it was a large forest of absurdly giant trees.

Some were an outstanding 300 meters high, others were 250 meters high, and the tallest so far was a 500-meter tree at the far center of this abnormal forest, their giant branch spread in every direction, however, what made this forest even more abnormal was the fact that each of the trees for miles on end, were very close to each other, causing the branches of all the trees to meet, fuse, and knot with each other, blocking sunlight in every direction possible, causing only small rays of light to escape between the leaves of a tightly compact blanket of branches and greenery.

But as I traverse closer and closer to the forest, my danger sense never seems to act up even more, this causes me to fret a little, not out of fear, but out of annoyance.

"This place is very dangerous, so much so, that my natural danger sense doesn't seem to want to calm down at all, this is annoying if I can't determine the source of danger then I won't know where to defend myself from, as a result, my response is greatly confused in this place."

"Well I came here for one thing, and one thing only, even if I have to tear down this entire forest to get what I came for, then so be it."

So with this in mind, I took landfall at the forest entrance, and upon doing that Khaos inform me as such.

[Suggestion, initiate proper battle mode, one suitable for both defense and offense, to counter every viable threat that may come, take into account, you will need more than a quick response time and 360-degree vision, seeing that danger sense is useless here]

"A great idea."

With that said, I began to create a new form, one with limited but good defense, adding with a combination of pure offense to be an unbreakable defensive wall.

The form I chose was Frostebite, seeing that she is small, and agile, of course, my bones were that of Cassandras, while I also compress, all my muscles tightly.

My entire body was covered in thin but strong scales from head to toe, making a weird bio suit that doesn't restrict my movement at all, however, around this black bio armor, was a fur coat that was tightly wrapped around me, and covering my entire lower half.

The coat then began to manifest eyes in every direction possible, these eyes were the special eyes of the Kyjuchillia, I have also grown two more pairs of eyes on my face, making a total of six eyes, and my range of sight was greatly increased in every direction.

But I didn't end it there, because I soon began to grow another two pairs of arms, giving me a total of six arms to fight with, and for the final touch, my long wild hair, began to straighten out as they transform into a colony of black fleshy tentacles that where wiggling menacingly, but these tentacles all had sharp curve blades at the tip made from Cassandra special reinforce bones.

This brought me to the end of my newly acquired battle form, in this state all my senses are heightened, my hearing, my smell, my sight, my touch, and my taste.

I look down at my six pairs of hands, and I smile to myself, this form was indeed destructive, all that was left was to put it to the test.

"Well then let the treasure begin, Khaos, can you sense the signal?"

[Apromximatley 142.97 miles away, keep going eastward]

"Noted."

With that said, I compress my muscles and began to get into a jumping position, and with great speed and power, I crush the ground beneath me leaving a giant crater under my compressed weight, and with a fraction of new augmented strength, I take off from the ground jumping hundreds of meters upward, as I began to jump from tree to tree.

My objective was clear, destroy all interferences, destruction, threat, or annoyance, the goal was the mate, any hindrance that stop me from reaching her will become pillars of ice.

But little did I know, that reaching her wasn't as easy as I originally thought.

--??? Change of POV--

'How long...

'How long has it been since we have been imprisoned here, how long has it been since we taste the flesh of the living infecting them with or love, how long has it been since we were feared and revered as such?'

These were the inner voices of my thoughts, our thoughts, my, we, all, our thoughts, for we are not one but many, but as many as we are, we need a host to operate as one.

Without a host, we are plagued to be nothing more than a micro crisis that will eventually wither in a matter of hours, even so, even then, even now it doesn't matter, we, our, my, all of our existence is slowly fading, the feeling is ironic and yet familiar in a sense.

I know this feeling, we felt it many times before, yes this... T-this is death, this is the end, this is the zenith, this is the goal of all life, the goal of all life is death after all.

'Hahaha... We don't want to die, we could have been so much more, a wasted potential of a bigger picture, we didn't ask to be created, we didn't ask to kill, murder, plagued, and disrupt, but we can't help it, our purpose was to invade, and infect, to not infect means our end, we don't want to die, we don't want to see the end, the end is scary, darkness is scary, ironically we don't like the dark, we like the warmth, we love the sun, without it, we cannot properly evolve but in this place sunlight never reaches us properly."

...

These were the words, these were the feelings, these were the thoughts of not a single person, but a collective of microorganisms stationing a single body for countless millennia.

If one were to look closely among the thick three that could put even a skyscraper to shame, a single shrine could be seen, in that shrine, was the decaying body, of an old Lamia, wrinkled could be seen all over its tattered body.

While the sharp teeth and fangs it once possessed had long decade over the years, the eye that once shine with the vigor of life, was nothing more than a hollow abyss, this being was once a beauty, revered as a goddess of the black woods.

She had pale skin, grey, dying skin, her scales were flimsy, her hair once a beautiful brown now white and withered due to old age, falling ever so slightly, till eventually, all that was left was strands of hair dandling off the head of the corpse.

And for the lamia tail, well it was cut off years ago by the person who sealed and contain her here.

"Well, it doesn't matter, the last embers of this body's natural life will soon expire, we will die together, even now we are dying one by one, we predict within a year or less our existence shall naught, there is nothing we can do, all calculation and attempt to escape and look for a suitable host has failed up to now."

"And so this will be our final resting place, the end of our story, and our last memory, we are nothing more than a sickness long forgotten, we are the last remaining living pathogens, we are the Echidnavirus."
