Chapter 70 - After that Day (6)

Then, I turned to Brother Cheng Lan and made an accusation. "Why are you making such an expression?" I asked, my voice dripping with false innocence, and continued, "Death is not the end. It is mere destiny, but when it is frowned upon, they return as a guǐ to take revenge."

"What are you talking about?" Cheng Lan asked in fury as if I were making an accusation.

The hypocritical demonic beast had also corrected his face which earlier showed disgust.

I retrieved a glass from my spatial ring, threw it, and it shattered on the ground.

*Crack*

*Break*

A bright light had come out upon the sound of the breaking of the glass and shadow—the light, bright enough to blind an infant.

But everything comes to a stop one day. The Shadow once again towered over us and before Cheng Lan could voice his anger.

I screamed, "Come out of your negative thoughts. Negative thoughts like sorrow, disgust, and fear may lead her to become a Dream spirit. "

My scream filled with frustration.

Subsequently, this stopped Cheng Lan from voicing his opinion.

This was given because 4.8 out of 5 times the people's corpse gets possessed by Dream Beasts if they are in agony or are in regret before dying. Unfortunately, even sorrow or negative emotions in the surroundings also increase the possibility of making her corpse a dream spirit.

This is one of the reasons people generally in this realm pay all sorts of money to those people of books.

"Fair enough, when a Living dies, his spirit lives! The soul remains restless, consumed by a lurking regret. The Dream Beast claims the sacred temple of the god, and the lifeless corpse is left to wreak havoc."

The demonic tree said.

His voice sounding like the dead brown leaves blowing in the wind. And his Demonic face was just silently laughing. He was having fun.

"It seems like the light my throw emitted made you happier". I said to the demonic tree.

He was after all a tree.

"No, It's nothing."

'Phew,' I breathe feeling a bit better even though I knew that everything around me was dangerous.

Then I rubbed the back of Qiangsheng Tanji once again, who was just crying. His crying had also become quite annoying. Be the man Dumbass! You think crying will bring her back.

I looked at him, bent down, and asked, "Didn't you hear me? Death is not the end. The Almighty Immortal God does not delay a soul, and He will grant us victory over the morally unscrupulous degenerates."

At that time when I emphasized morally unscrupulous degenerates, I still made sure to steal some secret glances at Cheng Lan while I was consoling Qiangsheng Tanji.

Brother Cheng Lan seemed to have noticed my scheme, I guessed since he had an egoistic grin on his face—a type of grin that hid anger.

But while I was stealing some secret glances to agitate Cheng Lan, I noticed that I was getting no response from Qiangsheng Tanji.

He had gone deaf from the trauma and disbelief.

I used this opportunity to slowly take his card away from him in hopes of seeing what it read. And as I expected, it had gone blank. There was no text on it. There was just no trace left.

I retrieved mine and saw that it had gone blank too.

'Life really is a tragedy,' I thought and smiled a bit, putting the card in my spatial ring and pointlessly observing everyone who believed that the girl had died when, in truth, she had just gone into a coma.

"She seems to be poisoned. Her symptoms indicate that, and since the killer is among us, he could possibly be the liar himself," the tree said, smiling.

'He already has started holding suspicions about Cheng Lan and me?' I thought because the way he was smiling before meant that he didn't really believe his statement.

'Ahh, That's it. I forgot for a moment that he is a pathological liar himself.' I recalled silently.

"Can you do something about It, brother? I am not able to get through to him. I know demonic trees have a special connection to do that without any restriction."

Hearing my plea, the demonic tree approached the Qiangsheng Tanji and cast a green light on him.

The green light did its magic, returning his mind to the point where he would not mentally break down seeing the nameless lady die.

And as the dead rise from their coffins, Qiangsheng Tanji rose too from the ground, and using this opportunity I asked, "Brother Tanji, are you alright." feigning concern while helping Qiangsheng Tanji to his feet while the Demonic tree snatched the nameless merchant lady from him.

"Brother Tanji, answer me, you're alright?" I screamed.

But soon stepped away still hearing no response from him, giving Qiangsheng Tanji some space by walking to the center.

Subsequently, The Cheng Lan and Demonic tree followed me too.

It took a matter of a second to find a comfy corner where it didn't feel like someone was watching over us though the Bat tribe demonic beast was still standing at the stage.

The shadow surrounded Ji Yan and others like how Goodness watches over the Hui Ying.

The night of everlasting Joy and dread for some and the night of fortunes for some. Today was the night where the fate of an innocent girl was sealed in the hand of an irredeemable Divine who could justify even the killing of the Guiding deity Luminous.

He wore a veil and sat on the chair. His demeanor gave him away as calm whereas his adversary The Cheng Lan was in a tense situation.

Who wouldn't be?

Cheng Lan was a liar and also continuously under the subtle mocking of Suspicious Ji Yan and the suspicion of the Demonic tree.

But just because He was in a tense situation didn't mean he would give up.

As long as he would keep his will intact and strong he would not be caught.

'I will live.'

Cheng Lan prayed silently.

"What are you doing Brother Cheng Lan? Who knows when we'd be able to get out…so please take a seat."

Ji Yan interrupted his prayer and unexpectedly requested Cheng Lan to take the seat.

Cheng Lan was naturally surprised by this action by Ji Yan.

He also looked around to make sure that Ji Yan was talking to him even though his name was mentioned by Ji Yan while addressing him.

But before Cheng Lan could gather his thoughts Ji Yan pushed the chair toward him and without knowing Cheng Lan sat on the chair without putting up any resistance and after a moment Cheng Lan's mind got filled with one simple thought, "Why Did I listen to this brat."

He was unable to grasp Ji Yan's demeanor, as it suspiciously felt changed, as if Ji Yan wasn't mocking him just a few minutes ago.

"What is your purpose?"

"Living life is my purpose." Ji Yan answered back.

"..."

There remained some silence between them.

Cheng Lan's breath was getting heavier, and he controlled his Tail wailing around slowly and cautiously.

"I am a scholar, you know, and so I want to ask you what you think about Lying in this game. I'M CURIOUS."

Ji Yan asked while the Demonic tree was spying on them through his Dryad spirit minions. The Demonic tree needed to gather the intel and so He naturally pretended to be busy by examining the Nameless merchant lady…....
