Hara was by all means an average woman in her own eyes. She felt that she had no particular standing in life and was very content to exist and be ignored by most. This gave her time to study and work on her thesis, something that she did feel very passionate about, and considered to be her one true strength. as such, she would spend most days looking into ancient civilizations, either in the grand library that she worked at, or at the college she went to. this was the kind of life she had intended to live for as long as she could, if not forever, should it be feasible. Unfortunately, it wasn't feasible. Not long into her courses a student, a troublesome one at that, seemed to attach himself to her. Constantly annoying her and attempting to pry her for information, no matter what she did, he refused to leave her alone, if anything her refusal of his advances seemed to only spur him on more, as if he took it as a challenge. after a particularly frustrating week of dodging Nathaniel she found herself in a rare moment of peace and quiet tucked into the counter of the grand library enjoying the simplicity of the library, it's tall stained glass windows, and redwoods stacks and large crystal chandelier all encompassed by the tall brick and marble walls that made up the hexagonal building. She ways fond that the building stood out in the city, and not just for the tall marble steeple that jutted from the roof, but for its magical presence, the way the light cascaded through the windows at all hours of the day, reflecting off of the crystal shards that hung form the silver and gold chandelier. it bathed the building in light that felt as if any moment elves and fairies would pop out of the shadows. Taking a deep breath Hara pulled out her note pad and volumes of ancient lore, taking notes as she sipped her tea, but her mind was turbulent. after the stress of the week she found it hard to focus on history, and found that she kept slipping into a daydream. One of dark princess, and heros of old, clad in black and teal armour, a clash rang out in her head as the two locked swords, words yelled, but she could not understand them. the light from the windows seemed to shimmer leading her into a field of carnage, the sky red with fire and the ground stained red with blood, a field of body's sprawled out before her. She watched as the two fought. moving in ways that no human could, darting here and there, only to appear moments later in a different spot. She watched as the deadly game of cat and mouse continued. Gripped with fear and anticipation, she darted forward in an attempt to stop them, the desperation filled her and she called out launching herself toward them, only to find herself falling to her knees. With a thud, she regained her composure, lifting her head to look around the library, the few individuals that were in there stained at her with looks of confusion and judgment, looks that were only met with a clang from the bell in the steeple. She dropped her head and stood, her body reverberating with adrenaline, never had she had such a vivid dream, nor had she ever tried to act on one. she breathed deeply as she walked stepped back over to her notes. a moment of awe swept over her at how far she had managed to fill herself, but only a moment. Her eyes caught the clock, ready that it was already time for her to close up the library, recalling the clang of the Belk she moved away from the counter walking to inspect the library. dipping between the shelves, advising those that she saw that it was time to close. amd once she was certain that the library was empty, she went and stood in the center of the building, directly under the steeple. crouching down, she placed a hand on the cold stone floor. letting out a soft breath, a soft blue light pulsed through her hand and into the floor. an image popped into her head, the library was indeed empty, standing she stretched her arms out in front of her locking her fings together and popping them. letting them drop she shook them out, rotating her head side to side
"Okey, wr got this Hara, you can do it all today."
she spoke to herself, closing her eyes she focused on the building, grounding herself to it. imagining that she and it were one, raising one hand eyes opening and with a snap of her fingers, every lock amd Sutter in the building slammed shut. the clatter echoed through the building. She had done it, she had managed to get every lock in the building. she jumped up with glee only to crash to the ground. the room spinning around her.
"still takes so much, too much."
she whispered to herself and she panted and crawled toward the counter. She grabbed her bag, pulling out a pack of caffeine gum and proceeded to put a small handful into her mouth, crunching down on the bitter minty gum. She leaned against the counter, closing her eyes and she waited for the caffeine to kick in. Her head spun amd her body screamed at her. regret coursed through her as she pulled herself up.
"Alright Hara, we won't be going that far for a while."
holding onto the edge of the counter she worked her way over to the chair. plopping herself down into it. attempting to keep her brain occupied in something, anything, other that the stabbing pain the was emanating through her body. She grabbed her note pad, content to look though the notes she had managed to take, only to see that the page was coverd in symbols that she didn't understand. she flipped back a page, more symbols, she flipped back, frantically she found that her entire note pad was filled with symbols, strange markings that seemed to be part of the other. not written on it. She rubbed her temples as she sat back in the chair. her brain hurt too much to deal with whatever that was. she stood up as the caffeine had started to do its job, but not enough for her to feel like a person just yet, but even so, she wandered around the building running her hands over the shelves, thinking of what she should do since she had no intention of going home for some time. She found herself in the history section as she always did. she selves formed a diamond shape around her as she pilfered the stacks for reading material, grabbing an arm full of books she made her way back to the counter, setting them down before plopping into the chair again. she rummaged through the tomes that were now sprawled out before her, a scowl spread over her face, she forgot one. She stood again, attempting to not feel annoyed at her forgetfulness, as she made her way back. slipping between the shelves till she made it to her objective, her eyes glancing over the shelves till they spotted her prize. She reached up to the book only to see a hand grab it before she could, staring her enough to make her spin around and lurch back. Her head hitting the shelf behind her. Reaching up she put her hand on her head, looking at the person standing in front of her. The shock from the strike making it difficult to focus.
"You okay?"
The voice sounded familiar, and it clicked.
"Nathaniel, what the hell are you doing here? or better yet, how the hell did you even get in here?"
She looked up at him, trying to gain focus on him, but still failing to do so.
