"I'm a dungeon boss?" Katerina asked herself incredulously. "How exactly..." She did not get to finish her words for a one inch tall humanoid female appeared in front of her, floating in the air like she was standing on solid ground. She had pointy ears, red eyes and to barely moving insectoid like wings. On her was a vine green dress that stuck to her like glue, showing her mosquito bite sized assets.
"Were you thinking of something rude towards me right now?" she asked with narrowed eyes.
"I don't think so..." Katerina started before she realized something. "Wait, who are you?" The humanoid puffed her chest out and Katerina fought the urge of calling the two mounds pimples.
"I am Degsin, I am the dungeon Core and from today onwards your new boss," she said proudly.
"A dungeon Core? What's that?" Katerina asked with confusion. She might have been a fun of shounen light novels but she drew a line with the ones involving dungeons. She was more of a Dragon Ball, Bleach kind of fun.
"Basically what I do is provide energy for the dungeon. I design how the dungeon will look, create it's monsters, assign their power levels and also harvesting the energy of the foolish beings that decide to dungeon dive my dungeon," Degsin answered, patiently. "I'm surprised you don't know this, with the amount of mana rolling out of you, one might mistake you for a god. Nobody can get that powerful without dungeon diving."
"Wait, wait, I'm stuck on the whole me killing people that get in here," Katerina said with dread.
"That's right, that's your work as a dungeon boss," Degsin said with a frown.
"I know, I know, but must I kill people?" Katerina pleaded.
"That's how it works," Degsin answered before it suddenly dawned on her. "Have you ever not killed people?"
"Of course, it's against the law. Besides, isn't killing people immoral?"
"Just my luck!" Degsin felt like crying. "The first monster I manage to summon is actually a pacifist! I might as well just hand over myself to the first adventurers that come along," Degsin said, heart broken. She disappeared from Katerina's view and the whole dungeon suddenly became darker. It was like the dungeon was showing how down it's master was. Katerina felt kind of bad but she believed what she said was true.
Due to her previous life, she had been indoctrinated into believing that killing another person was cruel and immoral. Since she was young, murderers were seen as the epitome of evil and serial killers were feared as they were spited. She just could not see herself suddenly changing into a murder hobo as easily as it was to flip a switch.
WARNING!
DUE TO THE EMERGENCE OF THE DUNGEON, ADVENTURERS HAVE DISCOVERED THE ENTRANCE AND ARE ABOUT TO INVADE. IT IS YOUR JOB TO KILL THEM ALL AND PROVIDE THE DUNGEON CORE WITH ENOUGH ENERGY TO MAKE NEW MONSTERS. FAILURE TO PROTECT THE DUNGEON WILL RESULT WITH YOUR COMPLETE DESTRUCTION AND THE DUNGEON CORE REGISTERED AS DEGSIN WILL BE BRAINWASHED TO SERVING A MASTER.
'Where is that voice coming from?' Katerina looked around but could not spot the speaker. Degsin appeared in front of her looking scared.
"I can't believe they found this place so easily. I don't want to be enslaved! I don't want to!" Degsin said as she started crying.
"Enslaved? What do you mean?" Katerina asked. Degsin looked up with teary eyes.
"When the last boss of a dungeon is defeated, the dungeon divers will chose one of them to completely override the Dungeon Core's natural code and make it serve them. They get to decide which monsters the Dungeon will spawn and use them to train," Degsin answered. Katerina now realized the stakes were even higher. If she failed, she would cease to exist and due to her failure, Degsin would become a slave. This was beyond her morals.
"Get out of sight, I'll handle this," Katerina told Degsin who nodded in understanding and disappeared.
'This will be my first contact with other people. I wonder who they are?' she asked herself as she prepared herself for a fight. 'What kind of spell should I start with? I think a sound based spell. Due to the ability of sound ignoring any kind of defense and obliterating inner organs at higher decibels, it is the best to start off. A proper AOE.'
As she was planning on how to attack the dungeon divers, a portal opened in front her, temporarily illuminating the place. From the swirling lights that made the portal came out four humans. One was a giant of a man wearing armor from head to toe, armed with a giant sword and a shield. The second was another man, tall but not the size of the first one. Her wore heavy armor without a helmet and was armed with a spear. The third was a female, wearing light armor and armed with a quiver of arrows and a bow. The fourth was another female, wearing ninja like light armor armed with twin daggers. As Katerina was observing them, they also did the same.
"So it's a new dungeon, looks like we got lucky," the tall man said with a confident smirk.
"And the boss is an Ork, turns out we really didn't need an Arcane caster," the bow carrying woman said.
"Let's just get this over with," the giant man said as he lumbered forward. "I'll pull it's aggro, you all kite it and finish it off." He put his shield down with a clang before Katerina felt something draw her attention towards the man. But, just as suddenly as it appeared, her mind became clear. She stared at the giant with a frown.
'Did this bastard just tried to mind fuck me?' she asked herself while anger started building up inside of her.
"Something's wrong, it just broke out of my Aggro skill," the giant said with shock.
"That was foolish," Katerina said as he mind worked on creating the perfect sound related spell. She pointed her right arm towards them as her green eyes shown blue. "Sound magic: 250 Decibels Shockwave."
BOOOOOM!
The air trembled and exploded as the shockwave reached the party in an instant. The four did not even know what was happening as their bodies exploded, showering the trembling dungeon with bloods and guts.
