Aboard the Shore, Everyone in the bridge was currently fully focused on the consoles and the telemetry being shown on them.
There were a lot of variables in this insane plan of theirs to get out of this system. And it involved a lot of things going right.
"Increasing the Thrust output of the left engine by 18%." One of the operators spoke as he expertly controlled the output of the rear engines.
The planets they were using for this high speed maneuver was a gas giant. So it had a lot of gravity that the Shore could use to get a solid boost in speed.
But it needed really high level of coordination with every parts of the ship.
Kita currently watched everything being unfold from the central seat in the bridge. Although he didn't know much about ship navigation or maneuvering, He understood enough physics that he was aware of what was going on.
He just hoped that it went just like Ingot had calculated. The guy was still busy making sure that everything was going as smoothly as possible.
He had to give the young lad credit for it. He had truly brewed up an insane plan.
"Increasing the Output of the rear thrusters to 100%." The operator spoke again.
The ship was almost done orbiting around the planet, Now it was time to burn full speed ahead.
After this little maneuver, The ship was currently going at about 400% of it's normal Sub light speed. Which meant that the G force being experienced by everyone aboard had increased by an order of magnitude as the Anti-grav modules worked overtime to dampen the force as much as possible. But at almost 4 times the normal amount, It was a tall order to expect them to be able to negate all of it.
The current G force experienced by the crew stood about 1.9gs. Which was still quite high.
Kita wasn't worried much, as everyone had already been notified about this development.
With this speed, They would need only a single hour to reach the other side of the system.
He dearly hoped that the patrol troops wouldn't notice their little maneuver until it was too late.
As he thought about what he would if that wasn't case, They received a hail from the border patrol.
As Kita saw who it was from, His heart sank.
"Did they find out?" Kita asked Nova who was also sitting in a chair behind him.
"It's highly unlikely Sir, given the amount of sensors that we've detected in this area of the system. But we can't totally rule out the possibility." Nova replied after thinking for a bit.
"Should I answer it then?" Kita asked. He wasn't able to make the decision right now.
"No Sir, I would advise against that. Regardless if they've found out anything or not. They might sense something if they see us right now. It's best that we close out any communications."
"Do it then." Kita gave his consent.
Nova gave the silent order to suppress any outside communications for the time being. Unless it was deemed really important.
Kita kept watching the projection that showed the space around them zapping through in high speeds, Everything seemed like a blur almost.
But one thing that was consistent was the huge yellow giant star in the middle of the system. It was soo big that it couldn't be turned into a blur even if one wanted to.
Kita looked at the operators in front of him, The sustained High G force was having their toll on them. There wasn't enough time to prep them for this, So they had to go in without the proper medications in them.
He glanced at all the ship metrics. Although the Anti-grav modules and the Sub light propulsion systems were working in over gear, Everything else seemed to be keeping it together.
Kita was quite pleased with the metrics. It meant that the ship was quite well built. Even with such high high loads on it's system, It was barely breaking a sweat.
As he was thinking back to when he first saw it, He received a call from Elena.
Kita quickly picked it up as he figured that she had something important to share.
"Kita, Bad news, They're onto us. They know where we're headed are are planning to fire EMP missiles as soon as we're there."
"Are you sure? Do they know Our exact trajectory?" Kita asked. A bit panicked.
EMP missiles were bad news.
The shields of the Jeager was currently down. As All the power was being rerouted to the rear thrusters.
Getting hit by even a single EMP warhead could spell disaster for them.
"The exact extent of their knowledge is still a bit unknown. I'm working on it. But it doesn't look good. "
"Okay, Let me know if something comes up."
"Nova, .."
"Yes sir, I'm aware. I'll let ingot know."
Kita looked forward to their projected trajectory as he thought about what he could do. without the shields, The Jeager would basically be a sitting duck. They needed to get the shields up as soon as possible if they were have a single chance of surviving the attack.
He did some quick calculations on his comm.
But they took some time to deploy, And between powering down the rear thrusters and rerouting the power back to the shields, It took take too long. Giving the missiles ample time to reach their targets.
'There has to be something that we could do.' Kita gritted his teeth as he murmured.
"Sir, Ingot's got something." Nova quickly sent him a message.
"What is it?" Kita eyes lit back up as he got some hope back.
"I'll let him explain." Nova said as he added Ingot to their personal network.
Everyone was wearing a vac suit incase anything went wrong And only the ones in the network could hear each other.
"Sir, There's a better way to reach our destination. If we take it that the Patrol ships already know where we're gonna go, Then we can assume that they have already alerted the cremer ships. So we need to scratch that plan."
"Yes, that's correct. What do you propose?" Kita asked.
"Although I missed it initially, There's this lone asteroid here in the outskirts of the system. If we adjust our trajectory by a bit right now, Then we can reach much closer to our target."
"How much closer?"
"Enough that if they fire a second round of missiles, They wouldn't have enough time to reach us before we can jump to FTL." Ingot revealed.
