Chapter 138 - Contingency plan

Kita currently sat alone in the meeting room. He had directly came here after he left the pod. He had a lot on his mind so he wanted to be alone for a few minutes.

He had a blank expression and his unblinking eyes looked straight ahead as his mind was turning in full gear.

There was a lot that Kita didn't know, whatever assumptions he had made, had been derived only from the small amount of information that Elena had managed to gather. Other than that, Kita didn't know anything about what may be going on.

And that scared him. Kita hated situations like these where he was out of the loop and didn't know what was going on. Specially when it was something so serious.

He had asked himself if he was being paranoid or something. But then he remembered the things that had happened and the information that Elena had gathered. If he connected the lines, then there was no room for him to ask himself that question again.

So, if people were really after him, Then that could mean two things.

One, They wanted something from him. Something that he had. Something precious enough that they deemed high level intervention necessary.

Two, They were desperate. They were really desperate to get their hands on that thing.

But what exactly?

Although Kita was quite a decorated researcher and the only protégé of Dr. Kbom, That didn't mean much in reality. Sure, he had a lot of money. But that was mostly stored away in banks collecting interest.

He had some finance managers who managed that money and grew it.

But that wasn't probably what they were after. What they wanted couldn't be bought with money. Otherwise, they would've already bought it.

There was a chance that it was something more personal. Maybe someone that he had pissed of in the military or something.

But no matter how much he thought. Nobody came to mind. Even after his fall from grace, He was still Dr. Kita Thiels. One of the most decorated researcher in the empire.

They couldn't possibly hope to attack him and get away with it.

As Kita contemplated a few possibilities, Only a single one kept returning back to his mind. He didn't want to think about it. But this was his biggest secret.

"It's not possible. I made sure that everything related to that was destroyed. I personally wiped out all the data banks. There's no way that they know about the Anti-matter. Right?" Kita mumbled to himself. A little unsure about the answer.

But no matter how many assurance he provided himself, He still held to the inkling that he was on point. And whoever was after him was after that. He just couldn't rule it out no matter what.

But, If that was true, then the implications were far greater than he could imagine. Just running away from the empire wouldn't be enough. He would need to totally disappear from this galaxy if he wanted to keep it from other's hands.

He had vowed to himself that he would never use it ever again after he saw what it was really capable off. Although he could earn unimaginable amounts of wealth if he were to weponize his knowledge. He didn't dare to think about it even for a second.

He knew what could happen if he were to give people access to this level of destruction.

He was determined to take this knowledge back to his grave if it came to that. In no way was he gonna give away this secret. Nor admit what he had really put inside the missile.

But there still remained the question of what exactly they knew. It could be that Kita was just overthinking stuff. And it wasn't as bad as he was hoping for. He couldn't just give them more information in that case.

He needed to tread this lightly. He needed more information on the enemy. Who they were, What they wanted. And what exactly the knew.

But all that could come later. Right now, he needed to get out of this system. The longer he stayed here, they larger the possibility that they would get ambushed.

As Kita was thinking about how to get out of here, Nova Entered the room.

There was a young man with Nova. He wore a pair of black glasses and He had a bob cut with his blond hair. Which looked a bit silly in his opinion. But Kita didn't have time to be amused.

He quickly turned to Nova and asked where the others were.

"Sir, With all due respect. I don't think that whatever we are going to talk about needs to be shared with the other officers. To keep panic to a minimum. We need to keep the information from spreading."

"I see. And, who is this?" Kita pointed to the Young lad. He didn't recognize him.

"I'll explain later, but please tell me what's going on." Nova urged.

All of the moved to the table and took their seats. Kita quickly explained the situation to Nova and how things were a big murkier than what appeared.

He made sure to leave out the crucial information. But he gave out enough of the gist to Nova so that he could understand the situation that they were in.

"I... See...." Nova said as Kita finished explaining.

"We need to figure out a away to get out of this system as soon as possible." Kita said in urgency.

"Well, Good thing that I bought him then." Nova said with a proud expression. It seemed that he was pleased with his own work.

"What do you mean? Who is he?" Kita asked for answers.

"Sir, This is Ingot Reefer, he's a analyst that I recruited. He's quite good at his job. I gave him a job earlier to figure out a contingency plan out of this system if things were to go south. It was only a backup option. But I'm glad that I did it." Nova explained with a proud expression. He was quite pleased with his own actions and decision making.

"Ingot, explain your plan to Dr. Kita" Nova commanded.

The Young man quivered when suddenly put on spot. But he regained his posture as he started fiddling with his comm. It seemed that had a plan already in mind.
