The FTL drive that Dr. Kbom had sent over couldn't be valued with traditional money. If What Dr. Kbom said was true, that would mean that this here was personally built under the direct supervision of Dr. Kbom himself.
And as it was a prototype for the next generation of FTL drives, It was at least 3 generations ahead of what was currently available on the market.
The Military maintained strong control over the cutting edge FTL drives. And compelled manufactures like the Kbom Industries to keep the market behind by at least 2 generations so that they can keep the advantage.
This worked great as the normal civilian ships couldn't match the FTL speed of the military vessels.
But the FTL drive that Kita currently had before him was even better than that. It was at least 1 generation above even the best FTL drives military fielded.
Every generational upgrades to the FTL drives cut down the travel time between systems. This was no different in this case. This FTL drive was at least 15% faster than the rest.
That was a huge improvement!
Although Kita didn't know exactly what had changed inside the drive itself. But due to working with Dr. Kbom for so long, he could make guesses. Whatever he had done was quite substantial that had resulted in such drastic improvements.
Currently Hugo and his team inspected the FTL drive from top to bottom.
Their eyes were sparkling like stars at the sight of such bleeding edge tech. They had only worked with older and outdate FTL drives till now, even the current FTL drive of the Jeager was a couple of generations older.
By that standard, this new drive seemed to be something out of a dream for them.
After a while, Hugo approached Kita with a satisfied smile.
"How's she?" Kita asked while letting out a small smirk. He knew that Hugo loved it, but he wanted to hear it from his mouth.
"Its.... Unlike anything we've ever seen. Everything about this is soo... profound."
"Huh? Profound?" What did he mean by that? Did he achieve some sort of enlightment from inspecting that for a hour?
"I can't quite explain it. But this FTL drive... It's a beast." Hugo said with scratching his head.
That made sense. Hugo wasn't really someone educated in the inner workings of the Drive. He was a trained engineer that had worked with all sorts of FTL drives over the years.
He may not understand anything about the inner working of the Drive. But that didn't mean that he couldn't understand a better and power powerful drive when he saw one.
His intuition screamed at the tech he witnessed and that left a huge impression on the guy.
"Well, that's all good and well. So, can we install this to the ship? What are your thoughts?"
Hugo thought for a while before speaking.
"I'll need to got though the specifications before I can truly say. But from the initial inspections, It's dimensions aren't that bigger than the standard, and most of it's schematics still follow the market standard. So we should be able to accommodate it fairly easily without any problems. Although there are some parts of it that I don't understand, going through the manual it came with might help with that." Hugo replied with a bright and confident smile. There was no task too unsurmountable for him.
"Well, Great then! I'll leave it to you then. Don't hesitate to come to me if you don't understand something. I know the manufacturer and can help clear up any questions."
"Will do sir." Hugo replied while looking back the other's still crawling all over the FTL drive.
"What should we do with the shipment container?" Hugo suddenly asked?
"Just disassemble it and keep it in storage for now. We may need it in the future. who knows?" Kita shrugged.
After talking with Hugo a bit more, Kita took of from the hanger bay.
Hugo and his team will handle the rest. But the Lab was in disarray. Hugo and his team was busy working in the Lab while Kita brought out the news that he had the new FTL drive. all of them had come out to see the new drive quickly.
Hugo had assured him that they would continue their work after a bit.
Kita didn't head for the Lab this time. He headed to the supply section instead.
He wanted to meet with the chief supply officer to see how was procurement of the essentials was going.
When he reached there, he saw the the guy was busy talking on the phone with somebody. From their conversation he could deduct that he was talking with someone from a fuel company.
It seemed that their dealings weren't going too great.
Kita waited until he finished up the call and entered his office.
"Sir, What brings you here?" The middle aged man saw Kita entering and quickly stood up.
"Nothing much. Just wanted to see how everything was going."
"Good good sir, Everything is proceeding along smoothly. There are a few hiccups. but I'm confident that I can sort it out" The man replied.
"I see. How's the fuel procurement going?"
"Oh, you must have heard my earlier conversation." He deduced.
"Yes. I heard there are some problems?"
"Yea, Fuel has been a bit tricky to get hold of. The Ship uses a relatively high-grade fuel. Although it's not too rare, not a lot of ship uses it. As a result not all suppliers keep it in stock. Since our needs are a bit smaller than what people usually buy, So it's proven a bit hard to get hold of the fuel."
"I see. You need me to lend you a hand?" Kita asked.
"Oh, don't worry sir. I can handle it. I've worked with similar situations in the past. There are always ways to get them to do what you want. You just gotta press the right buttons." The man said while letting out an evil smile.
It seemed that his chief supply officer had something in mind. He decided to let him handle it for now. He could always intervene if needed.
