Chapter 82 - Nosy Owner

"Gladly." Osritch said as he focused on the Lab section of the ship.

The projection highlighted a small section near the rear of the ship directly above the rear hanger bay. It highlighted about 6 decks worth of facilities that seemed to be the lab.

"As you can see the Lab sits directly above the rear hanger and can be accessed through the hangers. It spans about 6 floors worth of space, but can be expanded both horizontally and vertically if you feel like it. The equipment inside aren't too shabby either. They aren't cutting edge by no means, but they aren't that old either. Everything inside comes with the Ship, so you don't have to worry about paying for them separately."

"That's good to hear." Kita was quite happy that the Ship came with dedicated Lab space. He didn't care about the equipment inside at all. He could always replace everything if he felt like it. He wasn't short on money. What he cared about was having the space to work with. Having a dedicated Lab space meant that he didn't need to cut into other crucial or critical sections to build his own lab. And that was a really welcome development. He had mentioned to Osritch that having a Lab would be a Big plus for any ship. But no that the Jeager already had a Lab, it made things easier for him and made the Jeager a really good ship to consider.

It already checked all the boxes he cared about. And it had a decent upgrade path forward which was quite important. Kita didn't want to change ships every few years. So he wanted something that would provide him with a good base to start with and have decent upgrade path in the future.

Standardization had come a long way in enabling people to plan far ahead in the future. Normally, each subsequent generation of any product tried to maintain the standard size and dimensions that the whole industry followed. This helped people upgrade to the latest version of any given component without much problem. As long as the other systems were able to handle the increase in load and power consumption, it was typically fine to upgrade the FTL drives, or the Life support system of the ship. One shouldn't face too many problems if everything is in order. So if Kita wanted to upgrade the different parts of the Jeager further down the line, he would be able to do so without much problems.

"How many Mechs can it carry?", Kita asked.

"Oh, You could fit about a company worth of mechs if you really wanted to. So about 40 or so normal sized mechs. But for heavy mechs, the number would shrink quite a bit."

"That's quite impressive."

"Yes, the Jeager was originally designed with exploration in mind. So it includes a lot of features not common in other vessels this size."

"Hmm.. I see."

Kita quite liked what he saw. The Jeager was a solid Ship for his intended purpose. It fit all his needs and was a really good ship to begin with.

But something didn't add up. The Jeager was too good of a ship to still be available in the market. It didn't make sense that someone hadn't already bought it up. It had a lot of really good features that made it a steal for the price of 680 Million Credits asking price. Although it might seem a bit pricey when compared to other ships in the same market segment. But you have to consider that the Ship is practically brand new. It had less than half a decade in operation time. Which in the starship market made it practically a brand new ship. But for it to still be available meant that there was a catch.

"So, What's the catch? A ship as good as the Jeager shouldn't be available in the market for so long without anyone buying it up right? What's the catch?", Kita asked Osritch in a straightforward manner.

Osritch looked at Kita gaze. He understood that Kita had already figured out there was something about the Jeager that still kept it in the market.

"Umm.. About that.. It's not that there is something wrong with the Jeager. She is in as good of a condition as the day she left the docks."

"Then? Why is no one buying her up?"

"It's not that they aren't buying her up. It's just that they can't buy her."

"They can't buy her? What do you mean?"

"You see, The current owner won't just sell the ship to anyone. If anyone wants to buy the ship, they need to go and have a meeting with him. Only if he finds you good enough will he sell the ship to you."

"And judging from the situation, no one has managed to convince him to sell the ship to them yet?"

"Yes. That would be correct"

"What is the criteria to be able to buy the ship?"

"There are no set criterial per say. You just need to go and meet with the owner. And if he likes you then you can buy the ship"

"I imagine that this has warded of a lot of buyers?"

"Yes. A lot of the buyers don't want to go through the hassle. So they just look elsewhere. But the owner seems to be unaffected by this. He's still standing his ground. If you want to buy it. You need to convince him to sell it"

"Interesting..." Kita fell in thought for a while. Normally the owner would just put the ship on the market and then sell to the highest bidder. But for someone to insist on choosing the buyer, there might be something more than what met the eye.

Whatever the reason might be, The Jeager was too good of a ship to let go just because the owner is a bit eccentric. If he needed to meet him in order to buy the jeager, then He would.

"So, What do I need to do to be able to buy the ship?" Kita asked Osritch in a resolute voice.

Osritch's eyes lit up when he heard this. Normally, people would stay away from these kinds of situations. But it seems that Kita was up for it.

"Ah yes, You need to go to Krister System. Once there, you can setup a meeting with the Owner through this contact and if everything goes well, then you can buy the Jeager." Osritch Explained.

'The Krister System huh? Isn't that where a lot of influential people live?' Kita thought.

"That's it?"

"Yes. This is the first step. I can handle the rest after you've convinced the Owner to sell it to you."

"Hmm. Okay. I'll go meet this guy then." Kita said with a smirk. There was something interesting about this. He could feel it.
