Tick... Tick... Tick... Tick... that was the only sound I heard here. Tick... Tick... The empty chime of the clock echoed around the room. Tick... tick... After a while, other sounds joined in. The indistinct voices of two people talking to each other, and the screams and roars of wild animals. I opened my eyes. The sudden brightness caused temporary blindness, but it did not deprive me of my hearing. I heard two people's voices.
-Hey! She woke up! Grab your weapon quickly. - one of them said.
-Wait for me now! - the other answered quickly.
When I regained my sight, I saw that two guys were already standing over me with broomsticks ready to attack. I was horrified to see two people I didn't know holding weapons ready to hurt me. When I was about to get up from a lying to a sitting position, the boys moved aside to better keep an eye on me. Thanks to this movement, I was able to see them well. One of the boys was tall with a strange hair color, supposedly blue but still a bit greenish. He wore a black hoodie and denim pants with sneakers. The other had a red sweater and brown hair. He also wore jeans. They were whispering to each other, not letting me hear what they were talking about. Taking my free time, I looked around the room. It was a bright school classroom. Only now did I see that I was placed on four benches. There were a lot of biological materials around me, such as skeletons, models of organs. While looking around the room, something caught my attention. It was a window, or rather a situation that was operating behind it. Outside the window, smoke could be seen coming from broken cars at the intersection behind the blocks, people running away from other people. Animals that are victims of humans and many other disturbing things.
As I watched what was going on, I was snapped out of my trance by a boy with hair like Algae.
- Are you OK? Are you hurt anywhere? - asked the Algae boy
- No, nothing. My head hurts a bit and I don't remember anything. - I replied
- What do you remember? - asked the boy with Algae hair.
I began to tell what I remembered:
I woke up in an empty classroom wondering what was going on and why no one was in it. After a few seconds, I came to the conclusion that classes must have ended and the students had gone for a break. Thinking about the choice of whether to go to sleep and walk around the school and eat, I chose the second option. As I left the classroom, I noticed students eating sandwiches, teachers watching the corridors. It all started on a sunny day. I walked over to the window to see what was behind it. Birds flew, children played in the playground. Cyclists rode, runners ran. In the distance, cars were driving in heavy traffic jams. None of the people on that day expected that it would become their last happy day.
I moved away from the window and started walking ahead, observing the students, teachers, paintings on the walls and the whole surroundings. I soon found my nemesis. Stairs. I had to go down the stairs from the second floor to the ground floor just to eat. Drama. I could get over everything but the stairs. Like they can't install an elevator or something.
"I can't help it," - I said under my breath.
I started going down the stairs. I got through the first landing pretty smoothly, but the rest started getting worse. As soon as I thought that going up the stairs would be even harder, I was glad that it was at least downhill. I couldn't imagine myself in perfect shape walking up the stairs without being out of breath and being late for class. When I dealt with my opponent, I went to the hall of the school where students and teachers organized a fashion runway. Participating students walked in the middle of the hall and the jury consisting of two teachers and two students assessed: appearance and behavior on the "catwalk". Watching this game, I discreetly passed by and positioned myself in a place where I would see everything, but no one would see me. Then I thought to myself: "what a shame it would be if I accidentally starred in this and fell over."
As I watched the fashion show, I saw three people who stood out from the rest. The first: a beautiful tall girl with long blonde hair curled into two long ponytails, dressed in a pink blouse that matches the weather beautifully and in a skirt with knee-highs. Two girls followed her. They both looked very similar, so I assumed they were twins. The first dressed as if she was going on a reconnaissance mission in Antarctica and needed to blend in with the snow. The other one is quite the opposite. All in black. Blouse - black. Trousers - also black. Shoes? The shoes are also black. Who would have expected, but the sweater was also black. The only thing that wasn't black on her was her brown hair. Both twins, if they stood next to each other, would look like "Yin and yang". Watching it for a while, I came to the conclusion that I would have no chance of winning in such a competition. Unlike the beautiful blonde, I was quite short with black hair.
After a moment of thinking about my image, I went towards my beloved cafeteria for which I went through so many hardships. I went inside and stood in a small queue to the cashier to order a warm rye roll with cheese, salami, tomato or cucumber and coffee. After about two minutes, I was done shopping. I sat down in a chair by the window and began to observe my surroundings again. First, I looked at how many people were in the cafeteria and the whole room. There were six people in the room including me. The cashier behind the counter, and two pairs of students. The cafeteria was quite small. There were four tables, about eight chairs, three couches, and some pictures of food on them. The cream-colored walls blended in nicely with the rest. Dark colored flowers in the room gave the room a touch of relaxation. After a quick inspection of the room, like a "cleanliness agent", I looked out the window.
Beyond it was a garden full of flowers and a couple of trees. In the distance you could see strange-looking people who seemed to be playing tag. On the horizon there was a kindergarten where children were playing strangely. Seemingly nothing extraordinary, if not for the fact that the children who were chasing were all covered with something red that resembled borscht. With that accent, I finished my bun and started to leave the cafe with coffee in hand. When I finally left the coffee shop my last happy days were over.
A strange-looking, apparently drunk man entered the school with something red dripping onto the floor. Of course, teachers and school staff noticed that someone unexpectedly appeared in the facility. The janitor approached the man to ask him to leave the building, but he did not expect that the man would attack him like a prey attacking its prey. Biting his neck and causing him to bleed massively. He was tearing chunks of meat out of him with his teeth as if he were eating chicken. Of course, the rest of the school staff tried to separate them. Well, it worked... I guess. A man with a mouth full of blood lunged at another person. It was a teacher from Education for Safety who was bitten on the right hand. Trying to unhook the madman from her arm, she hit him with a nearby vase of flowers that was standing on the large reception desk, causing the man to fall over. They were beautiful pearly roses whose petals changed their unique color from white to blood red after contact with the infected. Due to the resulting commotion, the students who were in the hall along with the two teachers became interested in the event and watched anxiously.
The janitor, who had already been presumed dead, stood up. The blood that was still flowing from the neck was no longer red, but red and black. The man who had been pushed away by the teacher from Edification for safety got up. The teachers who were right next to the janitor and the drunk started to slowly move away. The Education for Safety teacher and the staff who wanted to tend to her arm wound also started to move away. Unfortunately, in vain. The teacher, who should be one of the most responsible people on site, because she finally learns how to behave in dangerous situations, etc., began to behave strangely and spit black and red blood. This fluid was flowing from her mouth, eyes and ears. Her wound began to bleed more heavily, causing the floor there to soon turn into a lake of blood. A lovely bath for cannibals. The teacher's skin began to change color from its natural cream color to blue. A color similar to the color of the bruise that was stamped five minutes after the impact.
There, the situation seemed more dangerous than it appeared. Unfortunately... I was one of the people who experienced this wonderful spectacle, and I was also one of the most vulnerable people.
Then all hell broke loose. The drunkard and his two helpers: a janitor and a safety education teacher, started attacking people closest to the scene. Aside from me, there were a few people closest to the school gatehouse, not counting the school staff, of course, who were two meters away.
People in the corridor who watched the whole thing, who watched many videos, reacted immediately and started calling for escape and hiding in the most remote classrooms or for any weapon to defend against madmen.
I have seen students torn apart by their peers and their insides thrown out of their bodies onto the ground. It looked like wild animals hunting prey. At this point, the floor and stairs leading to the lower floor, where the student locker room was located, were already stained red from the ubiquitous blood left by the previous owners.
Just as I was about to make my escape, one of the madmen running towards me slipped in a pool of water I couldn't see and grabbed my ankle. It was probably caused by a damaged pot with a freshly watered flower. I fell over and lost consciousness.
Those were the only memories I remembered. Just remembering them made my head hurt even more. After finishing story of what I remember, the boys looked at me anxiously. Then one of them came up to me and asked which ankle the madman grabbed me by. I said my right ankle hurts, so that was probably it. The boy came even closer and rolled up my trouser leg. Then we saw something disturbing. Scrape. Deep enough to spill some blood. Brunet, seeing it, immediately grabbed the previously lowered weapon and ordered Algae to move away. He didn't and told Jake not to panic. That was the name of the brunette. Algae said something like: She hasn't changed, maybe the scratch wasn't that deep. This boy's statement was a bit disturbing to me.
Seeing my worried expression, - the Algae said:
-I'll explain everything to you.
The boy began to tell what happened right after I fell. Apparently, after I lost consciousness, one of the guys close to me bravely ran to me to pull me away from this madman. They say he took me piggyback and carried me, escorted by other people who were pushing madmen running towards them, to this room. Algae and Jake were asked to watch over me while I was unconscious, and the rest of the students who found the weapons went to the "cleanup" that is currently taking place at the school. It's been about three hours since I lost consciousness, and I had a terribly high body temperature lying on the benches.
When he finished explaining the situation, he went to the window and asked me to come over to him.
When I was with him, he said:
-You see this guy on the road between the blocks by the tree and the dumpster. He is dead. Theoretically. - said the Algae
-How theoretical?! He walks. - I was outraged.
- I mean, he can walk, but he's dead. He became a zombie. The same Zombie became a "madman" who grabbed him by the ankle. If Arthur hadn't saved you, you'd be one of the victims the school cleanup crew is looking for. - said the Algae.
At the end of his speech, he turned to me just to see what emotional state I was in.
- Okay. Stop thinking about it, it hurts my head. Get out of this room and see what's going on outside for yourself. - Jake said.
As soon as Jake's voice died away, Algae turned to him and walked to the door, inviting me out of the room. I turned away from the window and walked slowly to the door to grab the handle and see what was going on behind it.
