Chapter 14 - Cerberus: The Valiant One

Kivas have one purple orb left that would decide the fate of the demoness lady.

With time backing against him, Kivas' claw was filled with hesitation. But nonetheless, he pressed onward and clenched his lower arms before grasping the purple orb as tight as he could.

And as the shattered orb dispersed into numerous particles before converging into two flaming panels, the selectable boons were then shown.

The first one was the usual cryptid [???] with the symbol being the three cerberus heads having the middle one to be two times bigger than the other. The second [???] had its symbol being one side of a mere feathery wing.

Because these selectable were heavily reliant on the logic of judging the book by its cover, Kivas saw no demerit whatsoever on having a pair of wings that allowed him to fly within the cave where there were only a small timeframe for him to get the succubus out of this massive mining reservoir.

Then the only plausible option was to bet on the first option where the boon with the symbol of the middle cerberus head got visibly bigger than the rest two.

As far as Kivas know, this type of add-on and boon upgrade should probably be the Boon of Modifier akin to the Lizardman' scales upgrade. And if he were to think about it with further brain cells, if he even biologically have one, then there was also a chance that the symbol reflects the effect of the boon in metaphorical sense instead of figuratively.

'Having a bigger middle head literally has the same worth of usefulness as the boon of having wings, but surely, it's not as simple as only increasing the size of the head without any further effect, isn't it!?'

Not wanting to jinx himself, Kivas immediately punched the first option with his claw. All while praying to god, or any deity that may or may not hear his plea to do the right thing.

'This is all or nothing!'

-Boon of Modifier-

[Cerberus' Constitution: Valiant One]

-They cross desert sands to burning oil wells, poised on banks of poison water that corrodes everything but hooves of apocalyptic horses, wheels of humvees and tanks. What do they seek? What do they see? Each of them brought their own chopped hands. One by one, they put it in front of their one and only protector, the Valiant One, the leader of the Cerberus's mind-

-The center head of the Cerberus will increase in size, jaw strength, flame power, intelligence, and willpower. The throat will be big enough to swallow a lower life form whole, and its eyesight will be able to pass through any gap that it wanted to see-

As the golden ball formed by the chosen selection panel made contact with Kivas, the middle scale-plated canine head became encoated with dark electricity and crimson red fire. Subconsciously, a powerful howl full of anguish and desire was unleashed onto the whole mine and earth.

The succubus began to cower in fear, completely forgotten of her own mortal wound "Argh!!!! Please, set down your anger, Guardian of the Tomb!"

The tremor from the terrifying howl was enough to slow down the pulsation within the beating explosive white sphere. Although, it didn't really nullify the countdown.

It gave them another one minute until the white sphere exploded.

As Kivas' stoic and cold red gaze were eyeing on the white sphere, he wanted to see if he could do the howl again.

'Ah, so the howl doesn't come with the boon.' Kivas felt awkward and disappointed, but somehow, the expression of his Valiant One's head became fiercer and angrier. 'This feels like having a tool with a separate battery!!'

As he turned his head to the succubus, his sharp scale-plated canine mane created a dark shadow trail that made his figure even more menacing. That action of his scared the living out of the succubus more.

"AWAWAWA-" to the point of foaming in her mouth.

After acquiring the newest boon, Kivas thought processing speed became faster than ever.

'Hmm, I guess this is also a win?' Kivas gave the succubus a side gaze before latching his sight onto the white sphere once again, placing his claw on his Valiant One's chin. 'I got an extra time to think of what to do with this bomb. Not to mention, my head felt clearer and calmer for some reason. Yeah, as if I'm not thinking through the jello core in the center of my body anymore.'

Seeing the calm yet magnificent stature of the beast, the succubus stopped her foaming waterfall.

'Still, three minutes isn't enough to get the demoness lady out of this room. Especially since now that my body is getting bigger, this claws of mine won't really be any faster unless I use more of the energy I have left from digesting the mineral ores. But that reservoir of energy is also almost depleted because of the transformation.'

Kivas slightly tilted his middle head. 'Ah, I can try eating every material in this room and get enough energy to sprint her out of danger! Blasting through the wall with this head and go straight to the exit is an option too!' But then, Kivas began to think deeply. 'Now that I look at it, if this mine reservoir became inaccessible, then it would give more weight for her to search for a new source of income for her village.'

Kivas checked every kind of ores that the skeletons brough to him as some kind of dog snacks. There were a lot of variants of minerals. Not to mention, for the skeletons to give away such precious material to a weird blobby creature, it meant that there was more of it coming from the deep of the mind.

After that enlightenment, Kivas decided to also save the haunted mine. With an attentive eye, Kivas looked at the surroundings. In his sight, he stumbled upon a single pottery on the edge of the vault. Untouched by the soldier of the Ent Priest.

'Ah, that pottery is one of the relics in this room that gave me a purple orb for merely noticing it.'

It was a crude, simple, and normal sized clay vase with dark detailed painting of the bygone era of war. The Ent Priest only aimed for useful looking relics within this tomb.

But the soldiers also took some of the crude and plain-looking ones, was it a mere mistake that they didn't take this single vase with them? Was it because it didn't fit the bag?

'Whatever the reason for them leaving this piece of pottery, it didn't deny that this treasure had enough worth to give me a purple orb by just noticing it.' Kivas carefully moved his body towards the vase. 'Well then, let's gather another purple orb, shall we?'

Kivas knew what to do.
