An evil society consisting of greedy aristocrats who held mythical creatures as captives for their own personal gain sparked an uprising against humans, hence the cause of the great war of mythical beasts that happened thousands of years ago.
Which resulted in many future changes and the tremendous loss of all time. Magic.
The first Emperor of Fallenrose, Florence Winthrope Fallenrose, had successfully negotiated with one of the last remaining fairies and several other mythical beasts due to his commendable courage and wisdom, which eventually ended the war with a peace settlement.
Unfortunately, the side effects of the great war caused all mythical creatures to disappear from the face of the earth, Except the corrupted ones that survived the abuse by the evil society. Banished forever to the outlands.
They were magicless, feral beasts that still held a grudge against humans.
But the one fairy that aided the Emperor during the war had blessed him with a gift—an artifact that produced magic called mana stones.
Emperor Florence used some mana stones to create a protective magic barrier around the Empire and outlands, where corrupted, magicless beasts dwelled. They were called Phantoms.
"Do people still hunt those poor beasts from the outlands?"
The fourth Prince, Juniper Winthrope Fallenrose, asked the nanny.
"Yes," The nanny, Emma Arden, confirmed with a nod and a gentle smile. Showing the soft lines formed on the corner of her eyes and mouth. "Phantoms are dangerous creatures, Your Highness. As a result of the abuse they went through, they went feral and saw humans as sworn enemies. And due to mana stones becoming scarce, the imperial administration had made a decision to only put the protective barrier on the Kingdom instead of the entire nation. With the special elite team as substitute, designed and trained to reduce the population of corrupted beasts,"
"What are they called?" Juniper asked curiously.
"Executors,"
The nanny closed the book and put it on her lap.
"What weapon are they using to defeat the monsters? Aren't Phantoms stronger than humans?" Juniper eye's sparkled in interest.
"Cross is the weapon created by magic analysts with the help of advanced technologies and mana stones to eradicate the beasts effectively. Every Cross was initially shaped like a small blue-colored crystal that could automatically change into any random weapon according to the user's physique and skills," Emma supplied helpfully.
"Woah," Juniper whispered. "So that means if I have a Cross, it'll turn into any weapon? Like a sword? A shield with spikes? A rock?"
"Yes,"
"Can I have a Cross instead of a wooden sword?"
"I'm not sure if her Majesty the Empress will allow it," Emma chuckled softly.
"Aw," Juniper crossed his arms petulantly.
"Can we negotiate with the Phantoms ust like Emperor Florence?" Violet Winthrope Falllenrose, The fifth Princess, asked with a crestfallen face.
"Sadly, Phantoms had turned into mindless monsters. It'll be quite impossible to talk sense into them," Emma replied apologetically.
"Only fairies can control Phantoms, right?" Violet asked.
"Yes. As fairies are the strongest and a most divine mythical creatures of all,"
"I wish I can see a fairy," Juniper hummed.
"What are you talking about? We already have our own adorable little fairy," Violet gave her brother a smug smile, looking over at the small, tiny baby lying down on a pile of pillows not far from them.
"Kya!"
The baby, the sixth Prince of Fallenrose named Esther Winthrope Fallenrose, babbled in affirmation.
'I am a real fairy, after all,'
Esther thought inwardly.
"Aw, our baby brother seems scared of the mindless beasts,"
Juniper cooed, quickly sauntered to the pile of pillows, plopped down next to Esther, and looked down at him fondly.
Violet got up from the carpet to follow her brother, also sitting down next to Esther.
"Don't worry, little brother. We'll protect you from those monsters,"
"We? But you're small and weak, Violet. You'll only last a second after seeing a Phantom," Juniper mocked.
Violet gave him a challenging glare.
"I'm eight years old, Juniper. Of course I can't defeat one now. And besides, we're twins. You're the same as I am. Are you telling me that you're small and weak as well?"
"Ha?!"
"Princess Violet, Prince Juniper," Emma mumbled.
But her words were ignored as the twins began their usual squabble.
"I'm older than you," Violet argued.
"By five minutes! That doesn't count," Juniper crossed his arms, pouting.
"Yes it is!"
"No it's not!"
"Yes it is!"
Juniper grabbed a marker on the floor, next to the mountain of cushions under the pile of coloring books and other stationery. He then opened the cap and quickly scribbled on Violet's cheek.
"What are you, five?" Violet narrowed her eyes, baffled by her brother's actions.
"Yes. Five inches taller than you,"
"Why you—"
Violet jumped on Juniper, grabbing the marker to scribble back on Juniper's face. The two children wrestled on the floor while Emma struggled to separate them.
Soon after, two maids and three other little boys barged into the room frantically.
"My goodness, please stop Your Highnesses!"
"Grab the markers!"
The maids frantically tried to stop the fight.
"I thought something happened when I heard screaming. Turns out it's those brats making a fuss again," Xavier Winthrope Fallenrose, the Crown Prince of Fallenrose Kingdom and the firstborn Prince, let out an exasperated sigh.
Despite only being thirteen years old, he seemed to age faster thanks to his mischievous little siblings, which constantly caused him a headache.
"Can I join in the fight?!"
Caleb Winthrope Fallenrose, the third Prince and one of the siblings that gave Xavier a massive headache, sprinted toward the twins who were still brawling on the floor and joined them.
Xavier groaned, already giving up.
"Calm down, big brother. Let's look at our cute baby brother to relieve some of your stress,"
The wisest one in the family and also the second Prince of Fallenrose, Brahms Winthrope Fallenrose, said with a smile as he patted Xavier's shoulder comfortingly.
"You're right. Watching Esther's cute face has become my remedy,"
"I agree,"
The two brothers walked toward the mountain of pillows, ignoring the three kids making a mess in the middle of the room. Brahms smiled when Esther looked at him with his big, mismatched-colored eyes.
They were colored blue and green.
"Kyu?"
"Aaaw,"
Brahms cooed, softly pinching Esther's chubby cheek.
"Don't pinch too hard," Xavier reprimanded, pulling Brahms' hand away. "What if his cheek gets torn? His cheeks are so soft and fragile like cotton candy, it might ripped easily like one,"
"You're right. I'm sorry, brother. But...I wonder if his cheeks taste sweet like cotton candy,"
Esther opened his eyes wide, looking at Brahms like he was crazy.
'Nevermind, he's a psycho like the others,'
"I bet it does," Xavier nodded, rubbing his chin in contemplation. "Should we ask mother's permission to bite it?"
'No!'
"Ababa!" Esther wriggled on the pillows, kicking his short chubby legs in protest.
"Esther doesn't approve. Besides, I'm sure mother will punish us immediately,"
"Rats," Xavier tutted.
"Wait, I want to eat Esther's cheeks!" Caleb hollered, raising one of his hands. His face was covered with markers.
"Me too!" The twins shouted, quickly stobbed bickering at the mention of their beloved little brother.
The poor maids were panting, exhausted from breaking the fight. Their aprons, hands, and faces were also covered in colorful markers.
Esther, who could only watch the entire thing since he was just a baby, could only look heavenward at the ceiling with a small, defeated sigh.
'Why do I have to be reincarnated in a chaotic family?'
