Chapter 14 - Diagon Alley, but changed?

After finally getting the letter he waited for for most of this life Julius was obviously thrilled to finally go to Diagon Alley which he hadn't visited yet, so he decided to visit it after breakfast together with George to get at least the clothes as well as, most importantly, his wand.

While he already had his grimoire Julius just really wanted to have a wand and it would also be more convenient to use a wand as everyone else in public, not that he needed to hide his grimoire, it would just be more troublesome to deal with the people who don't know about the Abraxus family's traditions.

Additionally Julius was also just curious which kind of wand he would get though he still had a few plans concerning the elder wand, after all the deathly hollows as a whole could probably help him very much with learning about death magic, that is, if the story about it being made by Death personally are indeed true, which he certainly hoped.

But for now he would leave the deathly hollows be until he studied enough about wards and curses to be confident not to trigger the curse which brought even Dumbledore to his knees, or well, down the astronomy tower to be exact.

‚That reminds me of that damn old relict. I still don't know if he is just some senile and nice old mean or the borderline dark lord some fanfictions depict him as and while I've already started my plans at taking power out of his hands he still has enough influence, especially in Magic Britain, to give me significant problems so I should tread carefully around him for now. Well, let's concentrate on the things at hand first, I am so excited for my very own wand!'

As Julius had wanted to get „the whole experience" George had decided to side by side apparate in front of the Leaky Cauldron even though he didn't understand why his young master would want to enter diagon alley through this dirty place, after all even the ministry had already made a new main entrance to diagon alley after magical Britain became a bit of a laughing stock in the international magic community when it's backwards society became known through the Mirror Network which made the proud pureblood families boil with anger, pressuring the ministry to ban Magic Mirrors until George „convinced" them it would be an even greater shame for them if they continued to refuse any progress which resulted in the isolated British magical community open up more to the rest of the world and taking over many changes other countries had already long sine been implementing, which, due to Britain being one of the leading countries in the world in transformation, helped it gain in importance through concentrating on Hogwarts as an international magic school.

When Julius arrived in front of the Leaky Cauldron together with George he only barely held himself back from throwing up, the books didn't lie; it was a very unpleasant experience.

After seeing that Julius had calmed down George pulled out two flat white masks with only two holes for the eyes and handed one of them to him while keeping the other one to himself.

„Here young master those masks should keep people from bothering us too much."

This kind of masks was one of the products of magical Britains recent focus on transformation, though many were pushing to ban them as they could easily be used for crimes, even possessing one of them was already something no one wanted others to know to prevent himself from becoming suspected to dabble in such things.

These masks were, as one might have already guessed through this information, able to mask one's face by creating a fake one, though the face had to be set during the creation of the mask by an expert in the field of transformation, into a face the crafter knew very well, though one of the regulations imposed by the ICW forbade the use of wizard's faces, or ones of other intelligent beings which know about the magical world.

When Julius had put on his mask he pulled out a small pocket mirror he kept inside his pocket, which was obviously enchanted for expanded storage capacity, to look at his new face, after all he hadn't had any reason until now to actually wear one of those as he hardly ever left the mansion.

His new face was quite contrary to his actual face, instead of his usual very white skin he now had pretty toned skin with blonde hair instead of his own black hair, only his ice blue eyes were left unchanged as usual with those masks, though even that could be changed if one was willing to use greater amounts of money but that was just not needed most of the time.

In general his face was also quite average so it should do a good job in not attracting any attention.

„Young master shall we get going then?"

George's face was of an older black man, just a few years ago this would have been very eyecatching in the British magic society, but since more people from other places started sending their kids to Hogwarts and many of them decided to procure the materials directly from diagon alley it had become more and more common to see foreign looks and clothes there, sometimes this looked very strange considering some magic communities just completely refuse changing their traditional clothing, even the British wizards were still largely using the old robes though sometimes one could even see t-shirts already which were obviously made by and for wizards with imprints showing the logos of popular wizard bands and similar things.

When Julius entered the Leaky Cauldron with George at his side no one paid any attention to them, which meant that no one had seen through his disguise.

The Leaky Cauldron though, was different, although not to the point of it being unrecognisable, as it still had it's very old-fashioned flair, but instead of the grimey and dimly lit pub with few customers, now it was clean, brightly lit and it was bustling with people, most of whom looked nothing like the usual british wizards; most of them were families buying the school supplies for their children and doing a bit of tourism along the way.

After all the Leaky Cauldron got quite the popular place after it was renovated.

I'm back I guess and I am truly sorry for what I put everyone through who actually read this chapter, I say this in the Author's note again but I really wanted to do that timeskip to not bore anyone with 10 chapters of the things I now just mostly explained in this chapter but I don't really know if this is any better.

If you have any suggestions about how I could make this better without writing 10 extra chapters please let me know.

Thank you for reading.
