Chapter 1 - Prologue

If I wasn't dismissed by now, I'll be on the training ground with my fellow comrades. Military life is so filled with fun, and I wasted it.

"Where is Shola?"

I raise my face to see Mr Biodun, the restaurant manager. Fat and short with his suit always missing a button. He shakes his head as I remain silent.

"All of you are not serious in this place, tell Shola that he's fired." Mr Biodun stomps his feet and bangs the counter.

If I had a choice, I'll leave this place as soon as possible, coupled with the fact that Shola hasn't been paid for almost two months, I'm also tempted to ask for last month's salary.

"But sir, if you sack Shola, who's going to be delivering meals to customers?"

Mr Biodun pause and turns to Ali, my co worker.

"Aboki, can you ride bike?" He asks.

Ali frowns. "No, I can't and my name is not aboki."

Mr Biodun hiss at Ali's response before turning to look at me, "Can you ride?"

My eyes widens, "Me?"

He nods, "Yes, you. Can you ride the delivery bike?"

I nod and he tilt his head towards the entrance door, "Ok, check the order list and start delivering, make it snappy."

I sigh and pull off my apron, "Ok sir."

Mr Biodun taps my shoulder, "Be happy jare, you've been promoted."

Working as a delivery girl seem profitable than I expected. Asides the fact that I'm not spending all day standing, the tip from customers seem great than I expected.

After delivering for hours, it's finally time to close, but I have one delivery to make.

The sky is getting dark and the clouds are gathering, in no time it'll rain. I increase the bike speed and swerve into a desolate street with few cars parked at the side of the road.

"Number seventeen, Allen avenue," I mutter as I ride past the rows of identical houses.

As soon as I sight the house number, I slam the brakes and look again at the address on my phone screen. Finally.

I carry the large size pizza on my left hand as I stand on the doorway. Carefully, I knock at the door and waited as usual. Again I knock, but no response.

"Time is running out, is she at home?" I mutter.

After several attempt, I decide to put a call through but a whimper from the other side gets my attention. My heart jumps when a low scream echoes from inside, in a snap, the scream dies down.

My mind can't get over it, there must be something sinister happening. Without hesitating, I twist the door knob and dash inside.

The door behind me shuts and the pizza on my left hand drops with my eyes widening in shock.

There she is, eyeless and dead on her couch. Beside her is a masked man with a blood stained knife. Slowly, he drops my customer's eyeball into a small leopard skin bag.

I can't believe I'm in the middle of a crime scene, now the killer is looking straight at me. With few inches taller and an old rusty knife in his hand, he seem less of a problem for me.

I dodge his knife strike, the blade whistling past my ear. I take a step back to get away from him, not wanting to put too much distance between us. It's a fair fight and neither of us is taking any chances. His stance is loose, ready to attack or defend at a moment's notice.

We are both breathing heavily; me with sweat dripping down my forehead.

If there's one thing I learnt in the military, is never to get stabbed in a knife fight. Armless but skilled, I grab him in the wrist and jab him on the neck with my elbow.

The masked man knife drops and I quickly land a kick to his chest, dropping him to tbe couch beside the dead lady. As I try to pick up the knife, it disappears out of sight and appears in his grip again.

He raises the knife, poised for the kill.

my adrenaline spiked. i don't want to die, i don't wanna lose this fight, i don't have a damn clue as to how he got the jump on me. He lunges at me once more, his arm moving fast enough to almost reach me. Narrowly, I miss being slited on the neck. Swiftly, I jump on the couch and kick the knife off his grip. As soon as his weapon lands on the carpet, it disappear and reappear to his grip.

I don't even have time to be shocked by what just happened, this isn't ordinary.

He lunges at me again, his knife raised high. I bring my right hand above my head, waiting until he comes closer, when suddenly I push the knife down with my left hand. Unfortunately, it gets off his left grip and a sharp pain reaches my rib.

I fall to the floor as warm blood ooze out of my sides. Groaning in pain, I return to my feet and raise my face to see a fast fist connecting to my nose, I fall to the floor with my face down and look up to see the mask man on top of me.

His knife points straight to my throat, and all I can think of is death. I'm seriously going to die. My vision gets blurry due to loads of blood loss. Slowly he brings knife down, but a siren from outside brings him to a stop.

The killer gets up and look through the window, he shakes his head and moves away from me. A feeling of relief runs down my spine as red and blue light flashes into the room. Again, fear strikes me when he suddenly disappears like he was never there.

My name is Bunmi and this is my first encounter with a supernatural being.
