Chapter 87 - Why?

Far away, In the grand hall of the Maeson Knight family's ancestral castle was adorned with luxurious tapestries depicting heroic battles and noble achievements. The room exuded an air of majestic authority, and at the head of a long, adorned table sat the Knight family's patriarch, Lord Reginald Alex's father. To his right stood Lady Mia, his wife, and Alex's stepmother, a woman of unmatched grace and dignity. At the opposite end of the table, a few steps lower, was Alex's had sadness and hope etched on his face, but his, determined eyes, and his armor shone brilliantly even in the dim light of the hall. Despite Alex's lineage, he had faced skepticism and doubt from his family throughout his life, often considered an outcast in the shadows of his ancestors' heroic deeds.

"Father, Mother," Alex began, his voice steady but tinged with a sense of urgency. "I stand before you today not as a plea for recognition, but as a plea for trust. I know a grave threat has emerged, a vampire that can bring an end to the world I hope you can allow me to join the family mission to hunt it down." after he saw what happened to Chase a couple weeks later of helping back the city he left the blue eagle army, as he didn't really know how to help him and when he decided to check on Chase he wasn't there.

Lord Reginald's eyes bore into his son, his face a portrait of stern authority. "Alex, the responsibility of our family name is not to be taken lightly. You have yet to prove your mettle on the battlefield. This is no place for untested valor."

Alex's jaw clenched, his fists balling up in a simmering display of resolve. Since the passing of his birth mother, his stepmother had consistently cast him as an outsider, deftly weaving a web of manipulation that curtailed his every endeavor a perplexing agenda that remained unknown to him. Nevertheless, he stood firm, unwavering against the webs of manipulation.

"I understand your concerns, but it is precisely because of those doubts that I wish to prove myself. I've trained tirelessly, have been in wars and I have the blood of the Maeson family flowing through my veins. All I ask is a chance to show you."

Lady Mia interjected, her voice carrying both sympathy and caution. "Alex, we fear for your safety, your life holds great value to our family's future."

Alex's gaze never wavered as he looked at his parents, but he knew that his stepmother's sympathy was fake. "But what value does my life have if I cannot stand alongside our family in times of risk? I am ready to face danger, to protect our lands, and to uphold the legacy that has shaped me."

Abruptly, the door behind Alex swung open with a resounding thud, revealing a tall and strikingly, tall, handsome man with long silver hair of his mother. He was garbed in a suit of gleaming silver armor, a lengthy sword resting upon his back. With deliberate steps, he moved past Alex, his gaze fixed intently as he approached the parental figures.

"Well, well, little brother, it appears you're still clinging to the notion of joining our family's battles," spoke the man named Lysander, a figure of considerable fame, and unlike Alex.

Alex's older brother, Lysander, carved out his own remarkable reputation that rivaled even the legacy of his older sibling. Unlike Alex, Lysander possessed a powerful and beautifully crafted longsword, but his unique style and achievements set him apart in the annals of history.

Lysander's sword, known as "Aurora's Edge," was a masterpiece of craftsmanship and enchantment. Its blade shimmered with a soft, ethereal light, and its hilt was adorned with intricate patterns reminiscent of the dawn sky. Legends spoke of the blade being forged in the heart of a falling star, and its magic was said to be a gift from the heavens themselves.

One of the most celebrated stories of Lysander's Skillfulness was a battle against two fearsome dragons that had terrorized a distant region, Lysander confronted the monster alone. Witnesses marveled as he dodged the dragon's attacks with astonishing acrobatics, his sword striking true with each attack. In the end, the dragon lay defeated, and Lysander earned the title "Lysander the Dawnblade."

Lysander's reputation extended beyond the battlefield as well. He was known for his magnetic charisma and his ability to inspire others with his speeches and presence. Knights who fought alongside him were strengthened by his unwavering courage and his belief that the power of unity could overcome any adversity.

As the years passed, Lysander's name became synonymous with both heroism and hope. Poet composed epic poems in his honor, and his sword became a symbol of both the light that guides warriors and the strength that resides within them.

"Greetings, esteemed Mother and Father," Lysander addressed with a tone of polished respect, his gaze lingering on Alex. "Our preparations to confront the vampire threat are complete," he smoothly continued.

Acknowledging Lysander's statement, Lord Reginald and Lady Mia exchanged nods, poised to contribute their thoughts. However, their intentions were abupted by Alex's interjection.

"Brother!, why must I be excluded? Have you forgotten about my experiences during my time in the Blue Eagle army?" Alex's voice resonated with a blend of longing and hope, that Lysander's will remember the young days of childhood doing everything together. Yet, as Lysander's matured, their bond had gradually faded.

Facing Alex, Lysander's response was unwavering, "Because readiness eludes you," he asserted firmly, concealing a trace of concern beneath his outward resolve. His gaze swiveled back toward Lord Reginald and Lady Mia. "Nonetheless, I am aware of Alex's reputation within the Talia Kingdom," he added, his attention recaptured by his parents.

"Mother, Father," Lysander's tone shifted, his words direct and earnest, "I propose that Alex accompanies us on this mission."

Hearing what Lysander's said Alex was shocked as well as his parents, A tense silence enveloped the room. Lord Reginald exchanged a glance with Lady Mia, their expressions a mixture of concern and parental pride.

Finally, Lord Reginald leaned forward, resting his palms on the table. "Very well, Lysander's. We shall grant Alex this opportunity to prove yourself. But make no mistake, the path you tread is not one of glory alone. It is a path of duty, sacrifice, and honor. Do not let your desire to prove yourself cloud your judgment."

Alex's heart swelled with gratitude as he bowed deeply before his parents. "Thank you, Father, Mother." get said before turning to Lysander "Especially you brother I shall not disappoint you."

Lysander pivoted and strode past Alex, a solemn warning tinging his words, "You would be wise not to fail this, for failed could place you in the training chambers within the dungeon," he intoned gravely.

Following Lysander's lead, Alex trailed behind, his ears absorbing the weight of the warning. The implications of what awaited him knowing what was within the dungeon sent a shiver through him, but the cold reality was swiftly overshadowed by the growth of excitement coursing through his veins.

Seated comfortably, Lord Reginald reclined in his chair, his voice carrying a compassionate note, "May both of you embark on your hunt with safety" he conveyed with genuine concern.
