Chapter 11 - The dancing sword

The following morning, she awoke in her bed. She took her clothes and went to the bottom to meet Typhon. He was already there, eating some piece of bread with meat. She joined him and ate with him.

"We leave in half an hour. Prepare the material you have to prepare."

That was her first mission, she was tense and truly stressed. She prepared her material after eating. Then she joined him outside. They left in the direction of the farm. The sun was shining, the weather was warm and sweet, contrasting with their objective. She was not realizing what she was going to do. Deep in the countryside, after a few hours of walking, they could see the farm appearing on the horizon. He stopped her and crouched in the bushes near them.

"There is no place to hide further, let's analyze the situation and make a plan."

As they were hiding in the bushes, she felt his hand on hers. She watched him without noise, she could hear her heart beating in her chest. She thought it was because of the pressure. Then the target appeared in their sight.

The man was working in the field. He seemed alone. Typhon didn't move. It was only after a few hours and being sure that the man was alone that he stood up. His cold gaze was focusing on the man.

The man didn't run away when he saw them. He raised a hand as he was about to talk but Typhon interrupted him by slicing his throat. There was no place for discussion.

As he thought, soon after the man stood up again. He placed his head on his neck and laughed at them. Arja noticed that the field was strange and irregular. She understood at the moment she saw a hand coming out from the ground that the field was full of cadavers. She took her saber in her both hands and attacked everything that could come close. Typhon on his side was busy with the target.

He didn't plan so many enemies. The situation was not to their advantage. He dropped a smoking bomb, took Arja by the arm, and ran forward. They arrived in a warehouse. The cadavers didn't wait too long to follow them. The entrance was narrow and Typhon could shoot them as fast as they were coming.

The fight seemed endless, and Arja felt her heart beating stronger and stronger. Her hands were trembling and she felt sweat running down her neck. She understood that she was not ready for this. The heads were rolling on the floor, one after another. She surprised herself to admire the man in front of her. He seemed like dancing in the wind. His sword was thin and magnificent. Each movement did a perfect cut stopping the enemies without difficulties. She was keeping her saber in the direction of the door all this long without finding a way to help her partner. After just a few more cuts, she could see that there were no enemies anymore.

Arja was relaxing a bit even if she felt useless when a hand caught her shoulder. The target was behind her. Her blood froze. It could be said that she panicked. Her saber being too long, she dropped it and took the ax near her then she assaulted the target. She pushed the ax into his skull and they fell together. Arja being on top of him, screamed while pulling the ax out of his head then she attacked again. She did it a few times, she was closing her eyes and didn't have an idea of what she was doing. Typhon went to her and stopped her.

"It's finished"

Arja came back to her, as she calmed she watched around her and found that the target had no human form anymore. Pieces of his brain were a bit everywhere. Arja was covered in blood. She was breathing very strong and fast, the ax still in her hands. Typhon laughed a bit.

"Not bad for the first time. Remember me to never search for problems with you in the future."

He thought that the situation was hilarious. Arja was shocked, she moved slowly. The smell of the blown-up flesh was hard for her and she went outside to throw up. Typhon could not stop to laugh. She felt slightly ashamed, after all, that was her first time being in such a condition in public. When he finished laughing he placed a little object on the floor then he came to her, she was feeling weak so he had no issues raising her and carrying her in his arms. As they were walking outside Arja felt better and could stand, when she started to move, the arms around her became tighter and stronger. She was surprised to be carried this way, the ancient her would never tolerate such behavior but, she was not a princess anymore. She stopped to fight and she let herself go in his arms. This sensation was so nice compared to what she could know these past years. She realized Typhon was carrying their weapons on his back, she was keeping the ax in her hands, as she relaxed she smiled a bit.

When he saw her smile he tightened his arms a bit stronger.

"We should fight only with Sabers and Swords. The axes are not authorized weapons, I guess it will be our little secret if you want to keep it. You are good with an ax in your hands."

He stopped, they were far enough away. Then he orientated her in the direction of the farm.

"Now we admire the show."

And what a show! An enormous explosion happened. It could be heard and seen from ten kilometers around. The farm exploded completely, leaving only a crater. The fire spread all around and the left cadavers that could still move a bit were entirely burned. Nothing was left after a few seconds. The force of the bomb was astonishing. Arja felt a pain in her stomach as she heard the explosion but she felt so safe in his arms that she could even enjoy it with him. It was warm around, she raised her head and saw his face watching her. Sublimed by the orange and red shades, she lost herself for a moment in his deep black eyes.

They came back to the inn, without noticing the face of the innkeeper who saw a man with two blades in his back, carrying a woman covered in blood just after hearing an enormous explosion. He asked him directly without a glance at him.

"We will need a bath."

The innkeeper nodded, his mouth fully opened, he couldn't say a word. He only grabbed a girl passing by and ordered her to prepare a bath for them. Typhon kept Arja in his arms all the long, he didn't seem tired and when they called them as the maid prepared the bathroom they went together in it. The maid couldn't hide her face of fear, she quickly ran away after closing the door.

Arja was confused, Typhon helped her to stand and placed his hands on her to undress her delicately without touching her skin. He looked her in the eyes, he didn't see her body. Not even once. Then, he helped her to slide into the bath. He took the sponge close to them and washed her from the blood and bowels covering her.

She deeply enjoyed his presence, if she wanted to be honest she didn't feel fine cleaning all this mess alone. She was ashamed to feel like this and didn't say anything. She asked slowly as the tears were almost running from her eyes.

"Why do you help me?"

He smiled a benevolent smile at her.

"The first time I killed, nobody helped me and I passed out in my bath. I almost drowned, then I cried like a child for a few hours."

He placed a hand on his forehead and then he laughed out loud before becoming more serious. His voice had a slight tone of nostalgia and sadness.

"I would love someone at my side on this day."

She was touched by his attitude. She grabbed his hand and whispered.

"Thank you."

She enjoyed his help, washing from the first kill she did. Her heart was hurt by what happened but she watched the sword and saber placed next to the door and the pain was lessened.

The smell of death would now be tainted with the vision of Typhon dancing with his sword, protecting her from danger and this vision changed everything. Slowly, she could replace the bitter taste of the explosion's day with something sweeter. Once she was done, he left the room as she got out of the water.

She dressed with a lightened heart and went into her bedroom. She threw an eye at the window, the little star was there and she smiled at it. Alone in the darkness, she whispered another time.

"Thank you."

And this night was the first night in a long time when she was not afraid to fall asleep.
