Aayan Bently was originally a knight who used to serve in the Imperial Army. For unknown reasons, he left the force and started to work as an adventurer instead.
As someone who used to be a knight, he took up several jobs guarding merchants and their crews, transporting goods while witnessing first-hand the work that comes with being a merchant.
Perhaps inspired, or in an impulse, he quit and became a merchant himself.
Building a business from the ground up, he slowly gained some traction. Bently became more well-known, quickly spreading his influence. Soon, he became one of the more influential businessmen with a good reputation. Although he isn't the cream of the crop, he remained solid in competition.
'The novel didn't provide much input on him. He was a side character after all. In the story, he was portrayed as the rival of the actual top businessmen, one of the male leads, who played a part in defeating the evil forces. The man solely existed for the male lead's character development, helping him attain a better outlook.'
'However, he isn't an idiot. Even if he lost in the competition, the readers never heard from him again.'
She sighed, 'Well, the plot was focused on the main couple. Not much could be done.'
'Besides, we never really knew who he was as a person. For one, why he kept his title of "Sir" is beyond me.'
Cecilia heard footsteps outside the door.
'That just means there is more than what was put on paper,' she smiled.
The door opened. In walks a man dressed in a casual suit. It is not the business suit usually seen in Cecilia's world, it's a normal fancy suit every noble wear in this world. His light gray hair compliments his looks. The light blue eyes immediately stood out. His figure is muscular, as expected of a formal knight.
'I guess old habits never die if he managed to keep his form.'
The man in front of her was the respected Aayan Bently, her, hopefully, future business partner.

"So you did come to invest after all Ms. Gardner."
"Please excuse my bluntness for I have overstepped my boundaries."
"No, not at all. We should keep this simple and short."
"Alright then. I am interested in investing in the makings of silk. I come investing as an individual, not as a representative."
He let out a hum, understanding her stance: She is not approaching him as someone under the Grand Duke's order. "I see. It seems you are aware of the current situation."
"I merely came to invest, not bargain. Silk has qualities that can appeal to the public if used correctly. I am particularly hopeful about this investment if it goes through that is."
"There is a large chance this will fall through Ms. Gardner. You should be well informed of our lack of investors coming into today's meeting."
"Why of course, this benefits both of us. Although I know of your precaution, I can assure you I will not be backing out. As I said before, I have high hopes for silk to gain traction."
"Then, if you do not mind answering, why do you place your hopes in silk?"
"Silk is versatile and a comforting material if used correctly. The material would be well-used in the fashion industry. Just like how cotton and wool have become the trend, why would silk not be the next?"
"I see. It seems you have high expectations for silk."
"Of course, if you would be able to produce it properly."
"Please rest assured, the production of silk is guaranteed to be well-made."
"This is new material, after all, I also have thoughts on the matter. If this will become worthwhile you must promise results."
"Why of course. I am an honest man. I have been in this for several years. A great percentage of my plans have not fallen through."
Cecilia gave a slight pause as if deliberating.
"Then, I could only trust you in the matter."
She took a sip, "Well then before we determine anything, I have my own conditions."
"This is assuming I would agree to the matter?"
"Well, to be frank, this will only benefit you as opposed to me. Investing is a gamble, after all, the material you are producing is not showing much interest. I would like to safely assume you would agree."
He then chuckled, "You are quite bold Ms. Gardner. Then I would take up your offer after you lay out your conditions."
He then took a sip himself and motioned her to continue.
"Then let us start with my most important one before going into the specifics."
He nodded.
"After reaching a certain amount of profit, indicating the rise in demand for silk, I would like to have the option to withdraw from the investment."

Arisanna went over to check up on work, ensuring there are no little mishaps.
She has been thinking of late about venturing into a different business venture. After producing cotton and wool, two of which are materials most used in the North, she knows the fashion industry of the capital would change its trends soon.
She would like to invest in the next material that may be made into a trend. However, if the materials do not suit the people of the North, it might not be worth investing in.
Fashion is a major industry, with people caring about their outfits more than they care about basic necessities. People are influenced by the trend which stems from marketing. However, it might not matter to the people if external effects such as the weather may play a big role in the consumption of individuals. The North is notorious for being cold, meaning thin material may not take off. Since, the North is her main target audience, investing in a material like silk may not be worth it.
'However, it might be for someone who views their target audience as the capital. It's worth a shot,' she thought to herself.
'Besides, it is not worth being greedy at the moment with everything going well. If an opportunity arises at another date, we'll take it.'
Satisfied with overseeing the headquarters today, she decides to make a turn toward a coffee shop.
Arisanna likes to hunt for nice spots to relax whenever she is in the capital. Finding the city's hidden gems.
She completely disguised herself similar to how Cecilia did. It would be bad if she was spotted. Besides, unnecessary rumors were not needed.
She found a fairly new place after walking for a bit. It wasn't crowded but had enough people to know people liked the spot. The advertisement and overall look of the store were cute, attracting customers to come in.
Arisanna made her way inside the cafe and sat in one of the places farther into the store. It was next to a window, allowing her to gaze at the people walking by.
A waitress came to take her order and then left, leaving her be.
'It's peaceful with minimal talking, serving as white noise. Should I start to frequent here during my stay?'
As she was served her order, her fork halfway through the food, the waitress suddenly spoke.
"Lady Blanchette, the emperor requests an audience with you. Please come to the palace at your best convenience."
