Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Future Self

7 year old Luffy is standing in the harbor, he is surrounded by mountain bandits. Luffy yelled at them for insulting Shanks and they started screaming because they didn't accept it.

Their boss, Higuma pushed the boy until his back touched the barrel filled with water and then Higuma positioned the sword he was carrying on the boy's neck. Then Shank arrived at Luffy's location and reprimanded the mountain bandits who threatened Luffy.

But suddenly, all became quiet. The air temperature around became colder and the atmosphere became slightly darker. Everyone was silent and silent like statues, some even took strange poses. Luffy would laugh at them if he wasn't freaked out.

"Shanks?" Call Luffy. "Everyone, can you hear me? Makino? Mayor? Someone answer A-"

"They can't hear you." Another voice interrupted Luffy's sentence.

Luffy looked around and then saw a man, he was the only person who could move in Luffy's vision. The man was wearing a shirt like a red and simple long-sleeved vest, he left the vest unbuttoned, he also wore black shorts and sandals. He had a terrible scar on his chest, it formed an X shape, he also had a small gash under his eye. He wears a straw hat on his head. If people saw this man they might be able to quickly guess who he is, but Luffy doesn't know. Luffy felt like he knew this man, but he didn't know who he was either, Luffy also looked like he wasn't afraid of this new man at all.

"Who are you?" asked Luffy curiously.

The man just smiled and stepped closer, now he and Luffy were quite close.

"I am you." The man replied, still smiling. Somehow Luffy could see the man's smile looked sad, but very sincere.

"Whaaat?" asked the boy, not understanding yet.

"I am you, from the future."

"THAT WAS SO AWESOME!" The boy's eyes lit up, and stars appeared in his eyes.

"Little me," The man started with a smile: "I was sent here by my friend, because I lost all my Nakama. I hope that by being here, I can stop it."

The boy knew his future self wasn't lying because he heard the sadness from the statement he just made, so he was sad too. He felt a single tear roll down his cheek and he immediately looked at his older self with widened eyes.

"I will lose all my friends?" he asked and the man nodded. The boy looked like he was about to cry, but the man from the future spoke again to comfort his young self.

"Don't worry, now you can fix it!" He said to the boy in a cheerful tone.

"H-how?"

"That's easy, I will give you my strength. Although, you will also receive a scar on my chest, as a reminder that you can still lose something you hold dear." Said the man, showing the scar on his chest.

"H-hey, did I become a pirate?" The boy asked again.

"Yes, a great pirate to be exact. But I didn't make it to being the pirate king."

"Why not?"

The man sighed and looked at the boy with teary eyes.

"All my Nakama are dead."

"O-oh."

"Without them I have no will to live anymore. I can't kill myself, because that would be a slap in the face, they died protecting me..." Said the man who was now crying.

"Y-you.... I must be really sad." Said the boy while looking at his older self, who now looked in pain.

"Right." replied the man. "I'm moving on with my life.... for them. But I'm so sad, all the time. Sometimes I just want to die."

The younger Luffy looked like he wanted to say something, but the older Luffy raised his finger indicating he wasn't done talking.

"So I do whatever it takes to keep myself busy. I can't continue being a pirate, because that would make me depressed." The man spoke calmly. "So I went to a big island to live there. I hid and made new friends. I trained, even though I had no intention of training anymore, I managed to get a bit stronger. But practicing made me think of my little girls, so I didn't practice a lot. I started reading up, a little bit about history and about wars, fighting and such-"

Then the boy interrupted his conversation.

Amused laugh.

"Then you're not me. I don't like to read."

The man who heard the statement also laughed.

"I know. But it keeps me from remembering my loss."

The boy nodded indicating understanding.

"So do you understand why I'm here?" The older Luffy asked with a gentle smile.

"To give you another chance to try." The boy answered quickly. The man smiled at the answer, Then he started to approach the boy, but the boy had one more question.

"How do I know who my nakama is?"

The man stopped and smiled again.

"And they said I was too stupid and careless." the man said, proud of his younger self for asking such a good question. He saw the impatience in his young self's eyes and spoke again when he saw the boy was about to open his mouth. "When I touch you, we will join together and become one-"

"You sound like Shanks when he talks about bees and birds." his younger self cut him off again. They looked at each other and then for a few minutes they both laughed uncontrollably. Then the older Luffy calmed himself down and spoke again.

"Not like that!" he spoke with a blush appearing on his face. The boy chuckled, not understanding why the man was so embarrassed, but he was amused anyway. "When I touch you, I will completely disappear—"

"COOL!" Little Luffy interrupted again.

"Yes, I know. You will get a bit of my power, you will also get all my memories and skills, and unfortunately you will also get my scars." said the man.

Then he noticed the little man was pouting.

"WHAT?"

"That's not fair to the others!" Said the boy and the man immediately understood.

"I know it."

"In that case-"

"But we want to protect our nakama, right?" he said to the boy, then the scowl on his face disappeared quickly and he was now nodding vigorously. The older Luffy was surprised by how readily he agreed, even though he had never met any of his nakama. But then, he reminded himself that they were the same person... and that other than Shanks they haven't had many friends. He smiled and continued talking.

"And besides, it won't be the same! It would be cooler if we'd be a lot stronger now!" he said kindly to the boy, who grinned happily at him.

"We're going great!" the boy screamed with joy and the boy nodded, now very pleased.

"Ready?" the man asked kindly.

"Yosh, let's do it!" said the boy with a smile. The man touched the boy's hand and started to disappear, slowly his body becoming more and more transparent. The boy was then overcome with pain as he received new muscles, as well as new scars and lots of new information in his brain. Then the pain subsided and the boy looked up, saw the brightest smile he had ever seen in his life, come across the man's face... no, his face. The boy smiled back at his current future self whose body was almost completely transparent as he finally fully understood everything. The older Luffy had one last thing to say to himself.

"Protect them, Luffy. Always protect your nakama."

Then he finally disappeared completely and the pain Luffy was feeling stopped. The cold and darkness lingered for a few minutes and then the world started running again.

'Thanks for this opportunity, Coby. I'll make sure you become a good Marine again! '

'YOSH, LET'S DO THIS!'
