Chapter 1 - Prologue

19 years ago . . .

Maxine watched in horror as everything went up in flames. . .

Yes, they had prepared for an attack, but what they didn't expect was the magnitude of the attack, and the fact that rogues could be so organized, it seemed they had an insider.

Or did they?

It all started 4 months ago when she discovered that she was pregnant. . .

She had met her mate on her 18th birthday, she was over the moon cos she was mated to her childhood crush Gilbert. He was the Alpha of their pack 'the blue rose', and her older brother's best friend.

Being the beta's daughter, they had spent a lot of time together while growing up, but she fell head over heels when on her 16th birthday when he took her to a creek bordering their territory, he gave her a friendship bracelet and timidly declared his love for her.

She shyly accepted the bracelet and agreed to date him. They both agreed not to get intimate incase they weren't mates.

In the span of 2 years he showered her with so much love and affection that she felt she would not be able to bear it if they were not mated together, it was already toturous keeping not going over their limits, Imagine her joy when he turned out to be her mate.

They had gotten married immediately and set about the task of being the best Alpha and Luna the blue rose pack had ever had.

They were caring, compassionate, straightforward and honest.

They made sure that no pack member lacked anything nor had any complaints against them.

The only problem with their ever after was the lack of an heir, though it did not quench their love for each other, it made Maxine sad , and on those occasions, Gilbert would do anything to bring her out of her sorrows.

8 years after, she finally got pregnant, She had started experiencing some of the symptoms other shewolves talk about, so she had taken some tests, up to ten tests actually just to be sure, she finally felt fulfilled when they all came back positive, she rushed to her husband's office to relay the good news, he was ecstatic after hearing her narrative on how sure she was, he announced the good news on the pack link and declared a feast to welcome the coming of the next Alpha.

During the feast, Athelia, an elder and well respected member of the pack had a vision about the baby and she declared it openly in the course of the festivities.

She said that "the child was a special wolf sent by the moon goddess to be a protector and lover of the white wolf, the child would possess so many powers but most of them would only materialize after meeting with the white wolf".

The white wolf was only in existence once in 3 hundred years, and usually possessed powers that would help defeat their enemies ( vampires, witches and rouges), and was usually hunted by many different species because of their powers.

The people were happy for the Alpha couple and were happy to know that the white wolf would come in their generation and could even be from their pack, the very fact that the protector of the white wolf would be birthed amongst them was enough to give them joy. They were in such high spirits that they didn't notice the dark figure from amongst them that made his way to the tree lines and then disappeared.

Several weeks after, they started having frequent rogue attacks, something they had not experienced in years. Four months after the feast and just a couple of weeks until the birth of the child, they were attacked again.

This time around, rogues, witches, and vampires came in their hundreds and the wolves of blue rose pack didn't stand a chance because they were outnumbered 10 to 1, it was such a sudden attack that their allies could not make it in time to help them.

Gilbert had to send Maxine away to try and save her and the baby, and made her promise to save the baby at all cost and not to come back until he comes for them, she gave him her word amidst tears and made her way through underground tunnels hoping to get to safety but when she got to the tunnel that would lead her outside the pack, she couldn't help but turn to look through the air vent at the carnage created by the ongoing war.

Houses were set ablaze, their warriors were fighting valiantly, women and children were screaming for their lives as they were mauled, meaning the safe house had been breached. She stood there for a while, watching in horror as everything went up in flames, but she still had hope that her mate would come for her because he was the strongest right?.

The moment she felt the mate bond break, she doubled over in pain and cried silently, not wanting to attract attention to herself, she knew that it was over and they had been defeated, but she had to keep her words and keep the child safe at all cost. She laid down on the dirty floor for what seemed like hours, but it was actually a little above half an hour. When she felt she was strong enough to move again, she slowly made her way towards the pack boundaries, her sole aim was to keep her baby alive by all means.

She could hear the sound of water flowing in the stream close to where the tunnel ended and knew that she was almost at the border then she heard an almost imperceptible sound behind her, being a trained warrior, she crouched low in the shadows, straining her eyes to see in the darkness behind her, she saw two red eyes staring back at her and she let out a gasp, in a split second, the vamp was upon her, trying to bite her neck, she fought with all her might, shoving him against the wall, she extended her claws to rip out his throat, then she felt a sharp prick on the side of her swollen stomach, not wanting to waste time in debating the cause, she used her claws to pull out his trachea , and went ahead to severe his head from his body.

She hurriedly rushed to the stream to wash away the blood and try to wash away her scent in case other blood suckers try to follow her. She saw the gash left by a knife wound on the side of her stomach and blood was steadily flowing from it. She tore the hem of her dress and tried her best to bind the wound, not tying it too tight around her swollen stomach, she waddled as fast as her legs could carry her, making her way through the thick forest towards the road where she could hear faint sound of cars passing.

The sun was just making it's appearance in the horizon when she made it to the side of the road. She flagged down the first car she saw , the car skidded to a halt in front of her, a woman jumped out of the car, but before she could get to her, darkness enveloped her. . .
