Chapter 4 - The Kitsunes *updated*

[Species: Kitsune]

[Name: Tama]

[Tier: 5]

[Level: 1]

[The Kitsune are characterized by the number of tails one possesses with 9 being the utmost. A new tail is only gained after sufficient growth in either power or age. Usually 100 years for every tail is the general rule. After having gained their ninth tail the Kitsunes fur will turn white or golden color and ascend the heavens. Kitsune are known for their illusions powerful enough to be indistinguishable from reality and their ability to transform into humanoids. Other notable abilities are their ability to take on a ghost like form, possession of others, invisibility, and their control over lightning and fire]

Turning my gaze from the information screen to the Kitsunes, I approach them.

When I had gotten close enough I finally took a good look at them, kneeling in a subservient manner were six foxes. Each of them had four tails swishing this way and that as they looked intently at me. The unifying factor that told me that they were a family or coven of sort were their familiarity with each other.

I could tell that they were familiar with each other mostly because of the way they were organized. The one in front seemed to be the leader, the other five sitting subserviently behind that one. They all had the same golden fur too, which while not immediately stating that they were of the same coven did give me some more confirmation.

With a wave of my will the information panels that were taking up my vision were dismissed.

Though before I could do anything more I was interrupted by the fox that seemed to be in command transforming.

From the fox that she, and it was definitely a she, was she turned into a beautiful woman. Long golden hair draped down her shoulders while slitted eyes stared into my own. Though that was not for long as with an act of subservience, she lowered her head. The most striking feature though was the fox ears and tails that seemed to wave in the wind.

"My Lord this one is named Tama" She, or more accurately Tama said introducing herself.

As if spurred on by Tama's introduction another fox approached me however this one did not turn into a human form.

However even though the kitsune had not turned into a human form it was still able to talk, introducing itself as Hoshi.

The rest of the kitsunes did not deem themselves important enough to introduce themselves, instead opting to stand behind their leaders.

"I am the leader of this small tribe, I can only hope that you would accept us, My Lord" Tama looked up at me expectantly, her head that had been lowered subserviently while saying this raised to look directly into my eyes.

There was no way that I could refuse this heartfelt request, not only because of how earnest they were but because of their usefulness. I don't know how much stronger a tier 5 is compared to me but seeing as how I didn't even have a rank they were most likely tens if not hundreds of times stronger than I.

And if that was true then they would be a great boon, the man power and combat prowess that they no doubt would display would allow me to rocket my territory into the greatest of the realm. I doubt that anyone else was able to have servants of such power when we all were just beginning.

Even if they did I would still dominate them, these summons were only from the first day, what about tomorrow when I could summon more, or even a month from now. I'm sure that my territory would expand exponentially with the subordinates not only of now but of the future.

"I would gladly accept you" I said to them as gracefully as I could, holding my stomach as I gave them a little bow.

Looking down to the kneeling form of Tama I saw her stare up to me with loyalty in her eyes.

"Thank you, My Lord" Tama said, quietly showing her loyalty, a determined edge to her voice.

Before I could even think to order them around though my stomach protested against me, the constant stress of the day getting to me.

In all of the craziness I had forgotten to eat, or more like I had forgotten that I even had to eat otherwise I would have taken…

"Fuck, the bear corpse, I could have taken the corpse for food!" I shouted out, not caring for my image at all, the hunger that crept up to me killing any act of nobility that I had tried to portray.

Though it was hard to think through the hunger that I felt, I still had some rationality, enough that I had the strength of mind to order the kitsunes before me.

Before I could say anything though Tama looked behind her and ordered one of her subordinates to hunt down some food for us to eat. Immediately after the order had been said, the kitsune that had been ordered had dashed off. The only reason I knew that the kitsune had gone was because I saw the lack of one. It seemed like the speed of the kitsunes were too much for my eyes to see.

I drew my gaze back from where the Kitsune had disappeared and pointed it towards Tama.

"I was going to ask you to take Ali and bring back the corpse of the bear that I had forgotten to take but it seems like food should already be taken care of"

"I am sorry my Lord, I acted without thinking. I should have waited for orders." The whole time that Tama had said that her eyes were avoiding mine, her voice chastising herself.

"Hah" I sighed, looking to the pitiful form of Tama, "Just… just take Ali and try and find the corpse." I finally said, pointing to the bird that stood to the side.

I followed the bird that my Lord had ordered us to follow, behind me were my subordinates. Even though they knew that I could handle my own they still decided that they wanted to follow me.

As the trees passed by we finally reached the place where the bird had wanted to lead us but by the time that we got there, there was only a stain of blood leading to the forest.

I kneeled down inspecting the blood, it had been hours since it had been killed and judging by the trail it was unlikely that even if we found whatever took it, that we would find the corpse.

We would most likely only find a carcass, picked clean of all the meat.

"We are heading back, there is no reason to stay here" I command my subordinates.

"But the food, we promised the lord that we would bring back food"

I sighed, he was right, we did promise that we would bring food back. It would be an embarrassment if we came back empty handed.

"Let's find some prey then" I say, looking back at them.

Instead of searching around blindly, I opted to just walk back in the direction of our territory and use our sharp nose to find any prey.

It was after maybe a half hour of careful walking where we were all searching for prey that I found something.

Raising my nose to the air I pinpoint the location and rush towards it.

A deer, that was all it was but it was enough for today. Before I even reached the deer I cast an illusion, taking away its sense of smell, sight, and hearing.

For a second it panicked but that was all it could do as a second after I had cast the illusion I was upon it.

With a crack the deer's head was twisted, the life fading from its eyes.

While Tama and the other Kitsunes were out searching for food I decided to set up a place for them to cook.

I was hoping that the house that had come with the territory would have a stove or something but unfortunately there was nothing I'd use in there.

That was why I was gathering sticks and stones from around my territory, trying to set up a fire pit for them to cook on.

Looking around, I found a place to make the fire pit. The first thing that I did was place the stones around where I wanted to make it, making sure that they were in a circle. That part wasn't needed but I wanted to do that anyway. It just irked me a bit when things weren't symmetrical.

After I made sure that the pit was circular, I started to dig a bit, making two holes. One hole was for where the fire would go and the other was where the smoke would come up.

Once those two holes had been made I connected them making sure that the dirt above it would not collapse and placed some firewood on one end making sure to have something to cover it up with.

That was the hard part, finding something that could cover the fire that I was making, sure I could just put some leaves over it but those would burn and let a lot of the smoke come out the wrong end.

'What if I use bark' I thought to myself, looking at the trees around me. If I could get the bark off of the tree then I could cover the hole with something that would be a bit more airtight than leaves and would also be easier to place on and off.

Nodding to myself I do exactly that, picking up a sharp stone and peeling enough bark off of a tree near me.

Once I had that all I needed to do was light the fire and see if it would work.

However, to do that was another challenge that I would need to work through. I looked around to see if I could find flint but then realized that I didn't even know what flint looked like.

I sighed to myself and decided that I would just need to continue without testing it. With a dejected look back to the firepit that I had made, I went to try and make the next object.

With two fairly large sticks I placed them on the ground making sure to angle them so that they cross each other tying them together so that they stick together. Then after that I used another stick to support where they intersect so that the weight of the carcass doesn't break the contraption.

After I had done that I went to sit down, the hunger and exhaustion pounding my head.

A corpse was brought before me, my eyes opening slightly as my trance like state was broken.

"We were not able to find the corpse but we were able to find some food"

"Uhh…" I groaned, my hunger had disabled me, I barely had enough strength to raise my head.

"Do… do you want us to cook the deer now?" Tama asked, looking down at me.

"Yeah…" I groaned out, my head raised to look up to her.

Closing my eyes I wait for Tama to prepare the food.

My eyes opened, a plate of food appearing in front of me, the smell wafting into my nose.

With quick bites, I devour the food in front of me, my hunger finally sated.

It was then that I finally noticed that the fireplace that I had made was lit, the smoke from the fire steaming more and more of the deer that they had killed.

Standing up I move over to the house, leaving Tama and the rest of the kitsunes to their own food

Standing before the house I upgraded it with the remaining materials that I had from when Ali had gathered materials.

Again and again I upgraded it until I no longer had resources to upgrade it.

After checking the status of the house I finally took a good look at it, no longer was it so shabby that it looked as if it would fall over by the slightest gust of wind, now it looked like a proper log cabin. Something that could actually survive the weather.

However on the inside was where the real transformation happened, instead of the one room that the old cabin had, it now had multiple rooms, the inside was even stretched twice as much despite the appearance of the outside.

The first room that I found was the kitchen, it had everything that I needed to cook a small meal. After that I walked over and opened a door to find a bathroom, turning th jobs it looked like it had water and heat which was nice even if I didn't know where it came from.

The last room was a cozy bedroom with a little nightstand and a bed.

I went to lay down on the bed but was interrupted by one of the kitsunes jumping onto my lap and informing me that more food was available if I wanted.

"Tell Tama that I will be out in a moment," I reply, nodding my head to the kitsune in my lap.

"Yes, my lord," the kitsune said, leaping off of my lap and leaving the room.

I watched as the kitsune left and opened my status.

When I made it outside Tama was waiting for me, another plate full of meat in her hands as she reached out to me.

"Here my Lord, more if you so want it" Tama says, her eyes looking straight at me. "There is also extra if you want it"

"Extra?" I questions

"Yes, a growing boy should eat more, especially one just entering his teenage years," Tama replies, looking at my small stature.

"Thanks…" I mumble out sitting down and eating the food given to me.
