Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: A Scroll

Bang!

Creak!

Precipitously in the midst of disarray, two metal vibrations of air, sounded out obstreperously near Owen.

"What the-!"

He shouted in dismay, turning his head and body immediately, his eyes quickly widened, when he saw the hinges of the metal door snapping all of the sudden.

Proximately afterward, the middle hinge broke and flew over his head, nearly missing him by a few centimeters.

The metal door started to stagger and fall, just about to crush Owen under its weight. Swiftly, he descended down the stone stairs, just in time.

Bang!

The metal door fell, colliding with the stone pavement. Involuntarily covering his ears, the fall of the metal door provided a high-sounding chime.

This would surely force anyone around the area to cover their ears. The audible ringing sound caused by the collusion stopped after a couple of seconds.

Owen, still baffled, glanced at the entrance of the building and blinked his eyes in bewilderment. The entrance of the building was now open, nothing stood at the doorframe.

He gazed at the metal door and inspected its condition. All of the hinges of the metal door snapped from the doorframe out of nowhere, which caused it to fall unexpectedly.

"Not going to lie…...that scared me for real."

Owen smiled embarrassing, his body slightly shaking and tense. He sighed softly and looked at the entrance of the stone building for a split moment.

After hesitating shortly, he climbed the sloping stone stairs and moved his eyes upward. The unsealed entrance was now capable to pass through for any individual and visually seeing this, he couldn't help but thinly smile.

He stepped over the metal door and gazed inside of the building. However, his body swayed. The internal, was wholly dark, resembling an eternal void.

"What? Is this natural?"

Owen rubbed his eyes and blinked repeatedly.

"Sure, I know the sun is not completely out...but the heck is this?!"

He narrowed his impassive eyes and chuckled, shaking his head. Seconds passed; a complicated expression appeared on his face.

He knew moving in this...void, was going to too dangerous, plus he didn't have any light source to illuminate the building.

So how was he going to enter the building and investigate, if it was this dark?

That was a question he didn't know to answer. He peered his head inside, just to examine and contemplate his next actions but no answers where found, just silence and darkness.

"Damn, exploring this place is going to be impossible. Maybe I can wait until daybreak?"

However, that was the problem, he didn't have time to wait for daybreak because the unknown entity guarding the ruins of its territory could just show up, so acting quickly was a mandatory option.

He thought for a while and shook his head, leaving the ruins was his option in the moment. However, just as he was about to leave, something flashed in his corner vision.

[Gashvo gavsnikaruvs lnur gashvs Hyshzewolndi Telnwo.]

Familiar transient white like text appeared on the corner of his visional space. He was startled and looked, narrowing his eyes in annoyance.

"What now? Wait…...What kind of language is that?"

Owen titled his head slightly and mumbled in confusedness. Earlier, when he remembered, the white text could easily translate to the English Language for him to understand easily but now, they didn't, almost like they forgot he was from Earth.

No matter how hard to he tried to decipher, he couldn't make any heads or tails about the foreign text.

"Perhaps it's some kind of error? Strange."

True, it would be unnatural for white text that came from a deity, to unexpectedly show an error. However, when he was going to think more on the matter, his vision became distorted due an abrupt assault on his eyes from a bright source of light.

He covered his eyes and looked at the direction of the bright light, however, when his vision became operational, he was dumbstruck.

The interior of the building was now clearly visible, illuminated by a transcendental blue light, that swam slowly around chamber like a worm or snake.

They were extremely thin, like threads, and bright, like festive christmas lights. In total, there were at least three of these transcendent blue thread lights, swimming around the air, like in body of water and because of their external glow, they looked graceful and elegant to the eye.

Inside, there were large wooden seats, stationed in two rows, side by side. Spiraling pillars in columns, ancient furniture scattered and decaying due to the passage of time.

As a whole, it resembled a primitive temple with a catholic touch. Furthermore, at the end of the hall, a carved statue, counterfeiting a knight, was handholding a black chest or box.

Owen narrowed his eyes for a better look but suddenly, the lights vanished and replaced the illuminated scenery into complete darkness.

Owen was obviously startled by the vanishing lights but his face was still completely captivated by the whole thing. It took him a minute to calm his rushing heart and he looked into the darkness with purpose.

"Well, if I die in this place, at least it was by my free will…."

He smiled mischievously, remembering the black chest being handheld by the stone knight. If he acted quickly, he could get the black chest and easily escape.

"Damn, I should have entered when it was still bright…..."

Recollecting such a fact, he facepalmed himself in annoyance but honestly, who wouldn't be marveled by that?

Nonetheless, Owen still shook his head in slight frustration.

"What happens if those lights only illuminate every fifty years..."

The thought itself made him twitch his eyes. The interior of the building was now pure darkness, to the point the efforts of dim light trying penetrate it were trivial, once again, resembling a void of absolute nothingness.

"I am getting Deja Vu here."

Owen remembered the mystical void and couldn't help but compare, that was enough to make him shiver slightly. He stared into the darkness with a serious expression for some time and looked at his snapped wooden stick.

"Mm, I guess I can just use this."

He said with a light smile. If used properly, he could navigate through the dark chamber and reach the chest at the end of the hall.

However, judicious in avoiding harm, he threw one of the snapped sticks into the hall of obscurity, a circumspection, if the chamber was deception of mental aberration.

*Click

The chinking sound echoed along the hall, only when the stick hitting the ground. Hearing such a sound, Owen sighed a breath of relief and smiled thinly.

"At least it's not an ambuscade trap or portal to an actual void."

He mumbled, clasping his hands and stretched his arms to relieve some muscle tension.

Newfound determination appeared on his eyes when he took a step forward, however, amidst all this, his cloak suddenly shapeshifted to into a tattered scarf spontaneously, somewhat startling him. He regained his demeanor quickly and raised an inquiring eyebrow at the sudden shapeshift.

"Why did it change all of a sudden?"

Owen questioned his lonesome and glanced the magic scarf around his neck.

"Did I command it to shift unconsciously?"

He asked further but no returning answers came to him. Heeding the silence, he shrugged his shoulders and carried on his steady steps inside the darkness of the stone building.

"I guess there's no more use calling it a "stone building" since it's just an ancient temple."

He said heedlessly, passing the open doorframe.

*Tap!

Silence, no light, only darkness, just his incursive footsteps echoing amongst the darkness, making his body tense.

He kept his firm advance and turning his head, hoping for any visual information, but alas, the darkness was too impenetrable.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, now relaying on his hand sensations from the stick and visional memory.

He would slowly swing his snapped stick ahead of him, hoping not to collide with something and navigate across the chamber.

*Click!

Unexpectedly from his foot, a clicking sounded upon his steps. Owen moved his foot back and front, strangely feeling a thin object.

He slowly crouched and moved his free hand against the unknown object, his eyes still closed.

"Oh, it's the stick I threw…."

He said while lightly rubbing his fingers on the hard surface of the stick. Suddenly, a bright flash emitted across Owen`s eyelids, forcing him to cover his hands.

Owen slowly opened his eyes and blinked, seeing the entire chamber once again illuminated by the transcendental blue light. He stood up quickly and saw the mystical thread of blue tardily floating around the air, displaying its majestic form.

Owen`s eyes wondered and saw meticulously realistic old paintings of imaginary sceneries and black hooded figures with black cloth masks, covering their faces.

"I wish...I could just see the paintings further but I don't have time."

He knew that the floating threads would vanish at any second, so he rushed his steps across the halls, reaching near the stone statue.

However, because of caution, he abruptly slowed his steps when closely reached the statue and strolled with guarding eyes. While walking steadily, a thread of mystic light came from above and floated around him.

He reached out his finger but the thread broke into sparkles on contact and reattached itself, floating away.

He smiled thinly and finally reached the stone knight, handholding the black chest. Owen examined the statue, and saw the knight craved into full armor, almost resembling the Knights of the Crusaders but larger, also kneeled to the floor, presenting the box over its head.

Owen stood silently and reached out his hand. He opened the chest and was surprised for a second on how easily it unsealed.

He hesitated but looked inside the chest nervously.

Inside, was a lonely scroll, tightly warped by a red cloth.

"A scroll?....what?"
