Chapter 16 - The Importance of Souls

Mc Pov:

As I approached Lilliana, I noticed the exercises she had prepared for me and Estonia. It appeared that due to the differences in spearmanshid and swordsmanship, it is nearly impossible to train to increase weapon proficiency together. Instead, Lilliana planned a series of physical exercises like push-ups and sit-ups to allow me and Estonia to spend time together.

Physical training is not something that many people try to improve because they can use mana to do so. During a fight, the amount one person can increase their physical strength by determines the outcome of the battle; of course, this only occurs when two swordsmen are fighting. Magicians rely on various types of spells, and the speed with which they chant determines the outcome of the battle between two mages. "No-chanting" is a very rare skill that only a few people possess, so few people attempt to learn it.

However, this does not negate the importance of physical exercise. People choose their fighting style based on their physical characteristics. A large man cannot be agile due to his large muscles; instead, he is better suited to use heavy weapons, and a slender man cannot fight with heavy weapons and is better suited to agile fighting styles, though there are exceptions. Physical training increases the mana recovery rate since it is similar to stamina.

'Lilliana is probably thinking about helping us lay our foundations.'

Once a child reaches the age of ten, they receive a certain amount of mana, which is influenced, albeit slightly, by the amount of training they put into physical training. The amount of mana one has is unpredictable; unlike in most light novels, it is not inherited by your parents.

First and foremost, the transmission of certain characteristics from one parent to their children is determined by genetics. A human being has 46 chromosomes, half of which are inherited from the father and the other half from the mother. For example, one of your parents may have a genetic disease, but depending on your other parent's chromosomes and whether the disease's genetic variation is dominant or recessive, you may not inherit the disease, though luck does play a role, as well.

'Damn it, why do I remember this...school might not have been such a waste of time after all....'

The school was pretty annoying, and as any kid did, I also complained a lot and deemed it worthless.

Though no one can deny that it teaches us things, they may not always be useful. But, hey, knowledge is knowledge, and we should value it; It will make school a lot more enjoyable than constantly complaining.

'Anyways....'

Mana is not inherited from one's parents because it is linked to the soul rather than the physical body. It is said that when a person reaches the age of ten, they receive a certain amount of mana based on the size of their souls.

The issue is that no one knows how to expand their soul.

'But...I do!'

A strong physique is required to act as the vessel for the large soul; however, the body does not need to be large and muscular; rather, the vessel must be healthy, fit and have great stamina.

The second requirement is a well-informed mind. The more knowledge one has, the larger one's soul will be, though growth is stifled when the vessel is not in motion. That is, people who are locked in their rooms will not have a large soul, despite the amount of knowledge they possess.

Step three exists, but it is only used after gaining mana. When a person accumulates mana within their body, they are no longer able to expand their soul. After receiving mana, a person's expanded soul returns to its original size, implying that all people above 10 have the same soul size. However, once one has received mana, they can begin mana-training to increase their mana, mana-control, and other mana-based abilities.

There are numerous ways to increase one's mana, the most well-known of which is to train with mana until it runs out. This will gradually but steadily increase the amount of mana one possesses. Among nobles, "Mana-Potions" are popular; they have similar effects to elixirs but aren't as effective. Elixirs are legendary items owned by only a few royalties, Mana-potions are easier to craft.

'The Elixir I want is [The Divine Elixir of Man]'

The Divine Elixir of Mana is an elixir found on the last floor of the Elven kingdom's hidden dungeon.

It's a well-known item among all players because it multiplies the amount of mana one possesses by five, which is amazing in and of itself, but it also grants the person drinking the elixir complete control over their mana. It was a must-have item, but only a few people were able to obtain it because the dungeon is extremely difficult to complete.

I died numerous times before finally clearing it. That dungeon tested my patience, and I seriously considered abandoning it.

Anyways, for now, I will focus on gaining affection from Estonia.
