Chapter 107 - Obscured By Darkness

Charlotte watched Vincent carefully, and Vincent seemed as though he couldn't care less what she and Lucia wore, but since she brought it up, he wanted to take responsibility which she was actually grateful for. She looked down at her fingers for a second only to stare at them longer when she realized how unkempt she likely was if her nails were trashed as it was.

Her nails were chipped badly, but they were in a life-and-death situation in a way, so what they looked like hardly mattered. However, she wasn't in the mood to flash her boob out to the average businessman at five in the morning and change out something that had easier access to all of her weapons as well.

It wasn't as convenient to grab her phone from the flimsy sleeve of her dress that was ripped in various corners much to her surprise, and she felt bad that she ruined Lucia's lovely dress. Most of the dresses that Lucia had packed were similar to the ones that they were wearing at the moment so the attire wasn't the main problem since it seemed to be Lucia's everyday wear.

Charlotte didn't know for sure, and she didn't want to assume that was the case and decided to ask by whispering over to Lucia's shoulder despite knowing with the super hearing from the vampires, both the men would know exactly what they were speaking about, but the privacy of a huddle was better than none.

"Do you normally wear those dresses on a day basis?" she asked.

Lucia turned her head to her. "Not really. I only wear them to go out with clients. I brought all my nicest dresses since they cost more and could be resold for the material and whatnot."

Lucia wrinkled her nose. "It would be a bit much to wear them like that for everyday wear."

She lifted her gaze to Charlotte's. "I hope that you didn't assume that."

Charlotte squeezed Lucia's shoulder. "Your closet was beautiful and only filled with dresses. I was curious."

Vincent smirked over at them. "Charlotte has a chronic case of always sticking her nose in other people's businesses and making assumptions."

Charlotte sighed. "I'm working on it, I swear."

Lucia laughed and leaned her head on Charlotte's shoulder. "It's okay. It's fun playing dress up sometimes."

Sera seemed to pick up the phone since Vincent suddenly turned his attention away from Charlotte's face to the sky. Stone crossed his arms and frowned as he glanced at his watch signaling that they were once again and per usual pressed on time.

"Yes. We are fine. I am with Stone at the moment and Charlotte. An outsider has joined us, but you can clear her later. For now, she is stuck with us."

"You can send us the retrial of the medicine to the safe house address that Stone will alert later. Do you know anyone has a shop or their house open for us to stop by to get a car and some materials?"

There was a slight pause, and Vincent nodded despite Sera not being able to see it. "I see. Yes. I know where that is."

Vincent lifted the phone from his ear and ended the call as briskly as he normally did, and Charlotte tilted her head at him. "So what's the verdict?"

"There's a little boutique at the end of Gillian Avenue," Vincent said.

"That's a couple of miles away," Stone said. "Rooftops it is."

Lucia blew out a long breath, and Charlotte covered her laugh with a cough when Stone slid a glare over to them, and Vincent frowned. "We can walk..."

Stone froze, and Vincent immediately pushed Charlotte and Lucia further into the alleyway out of vision from the main road. Charlotte followed blindly but turned to him in confusion, but Stone and Vincent were clearly disturbed by something greatly considering there was already a golden rim around their irises.

Charlotte placed a hand on Vincent's arm. "What is it?"

Vincent tucked her away behind a large stack of wooden crates. "There is a band of vigilantes nearby. Hopefully, they haven't caught on that we were close."

Charlotte cringed. "That's just our luck."

"It's a good thing that we weren't traveling by rooftops or else we could have gotten shot down by harpoons," Stone muttered.

"What?" Charlotte breathed out. "That's horrible."

Vincent nodded grimly. "It happens more often than not which is why we tend to travel at night to be obscured by the darkness."

"What are we doing?" Lucia asked slowly. "Fill me in would you guys?"

Charlotte didn't know if it was the right moment to say so, and she glanced over to Vincent, who shrugged then to Stone, who was staring at the wall as if he wanted to avoid the topic together.
