Chapter 83 - Sworn Oaths

Charlotte was able to observe that most of what she had seen of the outer ring of the city, now that she had a closer look, honestly, all looked the same. It was bleak with all the colors being drowned out by the darkness along with all the buildings that served the same purpose. She didn't want to be a critic since it wasn't her life, but it was unlivable conditions for the most part.

The seedy lights from the bar signs to the LED bulbs that were reflected overhead by the small inns probably had more people doing unlawful acts behind closed doors than people who see each other every day to do the same routine over and over again to no avail where there will never be a fresh hand to reach them out of the cold water they had all been born in.

It would be a shock factor if they had come into the light of the mid-tier if not got to see what it was like in the Centennial Center. Those born in the outer ring would likely go in shock from all the bright neon colors that they all probably didn't realize were reflected in their hair and eyes as well.

It was one of the only signs that all the people within the city used to be one group considering that most if not all had genetic mutations of brightly colored hair and such as it had been the result of a lab glamorization centuries ago.

Charlotte, herself, had dark hair which was uncommon yet had hazel eyes that shined with all the colors under the sun.

Vincent and most of the other vampires that she had met all had natural hair if not dark which likely made sense due to their long live spans and procreating with one another.

Although, she did meet Sera and Darion, who had brighter hair and did seem younger than what she had felt around Vincent and possibly Stone, who might be called ancient to some.

It was an interesting connection to make, and one that she didn't want to bring up to Vincent since she didn't want to ask the question if vampires could procreate with humans since he, himself, was the result of that, and had gotten cast astray for that matter which she couldn't fathom why.

She had seen paintings of Vincent's late mother around the mansion, and she was gorgeous with her long flowing pink hair that cascaded down her shoulders and bright jaded eyes. She seemed to have been an older mother with a soft expression on her mature face with the expressionless young boy beside her.

That was the only painting of Vincent that she saw, and there was none of his father which meant that he either died or doesn't have a good relationship with Vincent if had one at all.

Vincent claimed to be a loner, but he was surrounded by a lot of good people, well, she supposed that she wasn't around long enough to tell, but they seemed to be good for him.

It was a matter that she pointed out last time which in turn had only gotten her legs spread for him, and she immediately stopped that train of thought before it crashed lower into Neverland.

Her face heated from the thought of their last intimate touch which felt like a lifetime ago, and it was honestly a hurtful experience.

A vampire drawing blood from one was bound to erase their memories, but Charlotte seemed to retain it well for no other reason than she was lucky. In the end, it was served to be more of a curse than a blessing since it was what got her into the fiasco in the first place, but she knew that she was in for the long haul now.

The bloodied scenes that she had witnessed were not going to be forgotten, as once she finds Vincent and Stone, the vampires would have to bounce back immediately to attack the vigilantes for fighting on their turf. It was bound to get messy, and they were all bound to get hurt, but Charlotte was going to stay until the end.

The investment that she had been tittering on the edge had finally crystallized inside her gut, and there was no going back. It was freeing in the way that she no longer felt as though she was indecisive and had no ground to help.

The vampires may not accept her, and Vincent might still be absolutely abhorrent at times, but they were bounded partners whether she liked it or not.

She still didn't understand the notion of contactor well, but she assumed that it had to be like a vampire's personal blood bag. That was how she saw it because she didn't think that a contractor could be a person, specifically, a human, to be able to control a vampire based on only a word oath.
