Chapter 81 - Distance of Stars

Charlotte didn't want to cause any rifts in the water since they were supposed to be lowkey and go underneath the radar and not attract any attention, but she was getting fed up with all the bad people around not getting a taste of their own medicine due to people being cowardly or not wanting to step in.

She bent down and ripped the snakeskin purse which didn't seem to be full of anything except a woman's essentials of whatever card and makeup products inside out of the woman's hands which the woman snarled at her for, but Charlotte leaned to whisper to catch a whiff of the smoke and whatever else that she was tinkering with.

"I suggest you let me take this now unless you want a bullet to your head."

The woman gave an indecipherable response while Charlotte straightened only to see two girls running toward them clad in their clubbing outfits that were minuscule and bright.

These girls were the perfect target to get robbed anyhow, practically advertising their every move, and Lucia kept on tugging at Charlotte's arm.

The drugged woman stared up at Charlotte with many words to say echoed silently, but Charlotte watched as the woman started to lose consciousness and collapse to the ground. She didn't know what the woman was trying to say at all, but there was a chance that the woman was also a victim.

She silently sighed and glanced over at Lucia who was chewing on her lips lost in thought. At this point, she would just have to leave it be.

Charlotte stuck out her foot so that the woman didn't get such a hard fall to the stone ground when her body went slack, and the woman's head landed on her foot before Charlotte slid her foot out from underneath.

The girl with blue hair gasped out for breath. "Jesus, how was that woman so fast?"

Charlotte lifted the bag in the air. "Is this yours?"

The other girl with orange hair that was knotted at the base of her neck nodded. "Yes, it's mine. Thank you so much."

Charlotte placed the purse into the woman's open hands. "I'll let you guys take care of her however you see fit."

The woman stuttered. "Wait, I think we need to her in..." T

Charlotte walked off without listening to what the other women needed to finish and ducked her head when they went into another alleyway that welcomed them with a low arch of stone with Lucia in tow as they quickly made their getaway from the ladies without leaving any traces behind.

Lucia frowned after a few minutes had passed, and Charlotte flicked her gaze up from her phone which still had minimal signal, and waited for what Lucia wanted to say. Lucia crossed her arms as her jaw jutted out. "The goal isn't to show our faces. I told you. We have to be careful."

"It's fine," Charlotte muttered. "We just stepped in for only a moment. It would be hard for them to remember since they were already on the highway to getting blackout drunk. It shouldn't be a problem unless you truly have someone tailing our trail."

Charlotte looked over her shoulder and met Lucia's blue eyes which were bright despite the dim LED lighting. "Do you?"

Lucia blinked slowly. "I don't. Now, can we get a move on?"

Charlotte lifted a shoulder. "Let's try and snatch a car."

"It's easier said than done," Lucia whispered as they stopped at a corner where they peeked over to see if there was any target to get a good shot at.

There were two cars that were running, but the one closest was a family car versus the other was a sports car. There was no competition at all in Charlotte's books. She said let's go get the sports car just as Lucia said to get the family car at the same time, and Charlotte covered her laugh with a sarcastic snort.

"The sports car is way faster," Charlotte pointed out.

"A family car won't draw any attention," Lucia muttered.

"But realistically for a high-speed chase? The sports car's owner is going to have to swallow his loss since there are no other vehicles that could match," Charlotte whispered.

Lucia shook her head, and Charlotte grinned when she knew that she won. She stepped out from the shadows carefully, taking it one step at a time, and fixed her headpiece to make sure that her long hair was folding neatly underneath the fabric of her dress so that it wouldn't get in the way of the chase.

Charlotte motioned for Lucia to follow behind her closely because their next move would have to be done in the same breath. She cast her eyes up to the sky for more strength, yet all that she could see were the dim stars being chased away.
