Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

ALEX

After eating what Carlos had brought her, she soon fell asleep, which made me a little calmer, so at least she's getting some rest. "I think for once since you've been here, she looks calm sleeping," Marcos commented looking at her best friend "I imagine, it looks like she hasn't slept all this month," I said, doing the same thing as him "She slept a little bit, but she woke up upset. She pretty much spent all this time crying."

"Knowing that she was like this because of me makes me feel bad," I replied "It wasn't your fault either, the only one who's to blame here is the one who shot you. I don't know why you have the habit of blaming yourself for something you don't have the blame" said Marcos annoyed, which makes me frown "What?" I asked, "Gabriela thinks it's her fault that girl shot you, that, if you hadn't stood in front of her, that wouldn't have happened to you."

"I had to do it, if we had given it to her, we ran the risk that our child wouldn't be born." I pointed out "It was a possibility, but you can't blame yourselves for something you don't have the blame, it doesn't do Gabriela any good for her to worry and much less anxiety, not after she was admitted." Marcos said and then put his hand on his mouth "What do you mean she was admitted?"

Gabriela hadn't told me anything about being hospitalized, not even when I suppose it was at this time, but the fact she was hospitalized wasn't very good, especially considering she's pregnant, doesn't sound good. "I shouldn't be telling this to you" Marcos said, "She didn't tell me anything about that, but why was she hospitalized? And when did that happen?" I started firing off questions trying to find out what had happened to my fiancée and why "The day she shot you. She got upset when we took her out of your side, but she went crazy as soon as we got her home, threw everything away and ended up falling apart."

"That doesn't explain why she was hospitalized." I pointed out "Well, she didn't react, but luckily for us, you were already on your way to the hospital and Roberta didn't take long to come, she's the one who said it was better to take her to the hospital."

"What about her pregnancy?" I asked starting to sit down, but the moment I notice Gabriela move, I lie down again and run my hand through her hair, so she falls into a deep sleep again. They told her if she needed the pills, take them, but you know how stubborn she is and says she won't take the pills."

"It's because she promised Carlota," I said quickly, remembering the conversation we had had a few months ago. "What?" asked Marcos, a little confused, "Gabriela doesn't want to take them because she promised Carlota." I revealed and he denied "But Carlota won't care, the only thing she wants is for both of them to be okay."

"You know Gabriela doesn't break any promises, she's not going to start now," I commented, and he nodded "I know, but it's for her sake and for your child's." Gabriela's best friend replied, and I nodded, because I knew it would be for their good "Don't worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to them."

"I already knew that, but as long as you're here, you're not going to be able to do much of it." he replied "That's why I'll do everything the doctor tells me, I want to go home as soon as possible so she can rest as she should and do everything, she has to do to take care of herself." I said "Well guys, I'm going home I don't want our sister-in-law to kill me or anything like that. See you tomorrow, Alex." With that, Carlos left the room without saying anything else and leaving me with doubt. "What did he mean by our sister-in-law?" I'm not understanding anything.

"Marcos, what do you mean by your sister-in-law?" I asked curiously, moving on to look at the man in question, "He doesn't mean our sister-in-law, but yours and his." he commented with a smile on his face, "I don't understand." I said completely lost "What have you been talking about since she came into the room?" Marcos asked curiously, "She was mostly crying, and then I asked her if what she had said in the woods is true."

"What?" he asked, bringing the chair closer to the opposite side of where Gabriela was lying, "The one that we were going to be parents." I said with a big smile on my face, "I'm surprised she told you then. She told me she hadn't told you." he commented and nodded, "Yes, she told me, she didn't remember telling me, I guess because of everything happening at that moment."

At that moment we turned to the door, and I saw my grandmother and mother standing there looking for me. I must admit it was a little funny with the faces that remained when they entered the room and saw me awake, I know they must not have had a good time and that, but their faces were too much. "Well, I'm leaving, anything you need let me know," said Marcos, getting up from his chair, "Marcos, go home, we're staying today."

"It's not necessary, besides, someone has to be aware of Gabriela," she replied and both the grandmother and mom denied "Don't worry, we'll do it." assured mom "Okay, see you tomorrow, Alex, in case something happens to Gabriela call me, okay?" she asked and nodded "Nothing will happen to her, but I'll call you if something happens to her, I promise" Grandma promised for me, "Thank you Carolina."

"Wait, I still don't understand about our sister-in-law," I said, still a little confused by that conversation "Ask Gabriela when she wakes up, I'm sure she'll tell you the whole story so you understand it." he replied with a big smile on his face "Okay," I said, knowing I wasn't going to get any information out of him "See you tomorrow then."

"See you tomorrow." Marcos left the room and both my grandmother and my mother entered, who stood on the other side of the stretcher since Gabriela is asleep next to me on the other side "When Gabriela called me, she didn't tell me anything about you waking up." commented grandma, "I didn't see her call you, and I can assure you since she entered the room she didn't go out."

"Then I guess she called you before she knew it." my mother said, "I guess." I answered, not quite knowing when Gabriela had called my mother and grandmother. "You gave us the scare of our lives Alex, I'm telling you" Said Grandma with a smile on her face "I know, and I'm sorry, but I'm fine, don't worry about me anymore."

"And Gabriela believes you and doesn't worry about you?" my mother questioned and I denied "Well, don't think we will either, we love you Alex, and to think we almost lost you because of that crazy woman makes us worry more." said my mother with tears pooling in her eyes "Well, I'm fine, really. I've never been so good," I replied with a big smile on my face, remembering when Gabriela repeated to me, we would be parents.

"How was Gabriela when she saw you awake?" mom asked when she calmed down a bit "She entered the room she stood at the door in shock, then she started crying, until she stopped." I replied "The poor thing was worried sick about you, she didn't move from here at all from the moment she was discharged." said grandma, making it clear to me everyone knew about Gabriela's admission "You know, you're lucky to have a girl like her in your life, not just anyone would have forgiven you for what you did to her."

"Mónica!!!" exclaimed grandma "Don't worry grandma, she's right, I'm very lucky to have her, I'm aware." I assured looking at my mother with a smile on my face and happy to know they got along better than good "You know, I misjudged her at first, she's a good girl, and I can see how much she loves you; I really didn't think it was possible. In her place I wouldn't have forgiven you." he admitted, "I know mom, I didn't expect her to forgive me either, but she did, that's why I'm the luckiest man to have her in my life."

At that moment I turned to look at it and I could see she's shaking more and more, so I took one of the blankets I had and covered it as best I could. "The girl looks tired, wouldn't it be better if she went home?" my mother asked and I nodded, because that's what I thought "It would be the best, but she doesn't want to go, she wants to stay."

"I think she'd be better off at home," said Grandma and I nodded, "I know, but she's too stubborn, she's not going home no matter how much I like it." I admitted, "Well, in her state, that's what she should do from my point of view." replied grandma with a smile on her face. But you know she's too stubborn, no one convinces her when you put something in her head."

"What state are you talking about, Mom?" my mother asked Grandma and I turned back in Grandma's direction "Doesn't she know?" I asked, surprised she doesn't know since Marcos, Carlos and Carlota seem to know it "No, I know by a miracle, Gabriela didn't want anyone to find out until you were well, she made me promise not to say anything to anyone." grandma replied, "But what are you talking about? What can't anyone find out about?"

"It's nothing mom, don't worry." I assured "But I want to know what you're talking about." she insisted, and I shook my head "Don't worry, you'll find out soon." I replied, knowing Gabriela wouldn't want to hide such a thing for too long "Do you promise me?" she asked, and I nodded, "I promise." I said, "Then it's fine, but I'm going to get a coffee."

My mother gave me a kiss on the forehead and left the room, leaving Gabriela, grandma and me alone. "Then how did she tell you if I understood she wouldn't tell you until you got out of the hospital?" asked the old woman with a smile on her face, "Because I knew it since Paula shot me."
