Chapter 14 - Skylar

Skylar's eyes were bigger than the googly eyes that was stuck on the booger statue when she saw me come in class with Jaki.

I take my seat right next to Skylar as class is about to begin soon.

"I know something was going on between you two, but I didn't know y'all are all buddy-buddy now."

I let out a little blush feeling a little embarrassed, like a secret that I held has been exposed.

"Ah you know, we've just been hanging out a little, nothing special."

Skylar raises her eyebrows at my reply.

Though Skylar wasn't the only one that was interested, I could feel other students stealing glances at us when we arrived at school together.

"Anyway you said you'll explain everything last time so now's as good as a time as any."

"Now? Class is gonna start soon."

"Please?"

Knowing Skylar she's not gonna stop nagging until I tell her everything, so I guess its better to get it over with.

"Fine."

I proceeded to tell Skylar everything during class in whispers, whenever the teacher had their back turned.

Skylar's face was like a roller coaster with her changing expressions every other second.

When class ended she put her hand on my shoulder and tried to put on what I assume is a serious face.

"I approve of this, I'll be cheering on you guys."

"Huh?"

Then Skylar pretends to wipe away non-existent tears on her face.

"I will definitely miss the time we spent together but I understand you have bigger priorities now."

"What're you on about?"

Skylar is a bit of an odd ball at times. I don't know what she's insinuating at.

"Its okay you will understand eventually."

Skylar replies as if she is a wise master providing advice to a lost soul.

"Um I really don't."

"For real?"

"Yeah?"

"Come on Sandy you clearly have a crush on Jaki judging from what you've told me."

"WHAT!?NO?!"

My face immediately turns beet red and I deny instinctively as I'm too afraid to think or consider that possibility.

"Anyway Shush! Jaki might be able to hear us from the back of the class!"

"Aww. Looks whose worried her crush might find out you like her."

"SKYLAR!"

"Ah sorry sorry! I couldn't help but tease a little. My bad. Anyway I gotchu. Jaki's not here anymore I saw her leave for the next class".

Phew I breathe a sigh of relief as I turn around and see that Jaki was indeed not in the classroom.

"Anyway, look Sandy normally I would tell you to give up, I mean its Jaki, arguably the smartest, prettiest and athletic person in our grade. On top of that being social and interacting with others isn't exactly something she's known for."

"However it seems like you two really hit it off. I don't know how your klutzy ass did it but you really did."

"Actually I know exactly how. As klutzy as you can be, anyone that spends enough time with you can see how caring and kind you are. People are lucky to have you in their life and I mean that."

Aww. Even though Skylar can be a handful sometimes when things mattered she always kept it real. She can be very blunt at times but I really appreciate the honesty. She will point out your flaws and strength with no sugar coating.

"And from what you've told me it seems like she also genuinely cares about you. I think you got a decent chance at the least."

At this point I'm as red as a ripe tomato. With each word that Skylar utters I feel like I'm about to pass out from embarrassment.

"Y-you think so. Like hypothetically if I did kinda maybe have just a little crush on Jaki?"

I asked quietly even though everyone else has already left the classroom on to the next class.

Skylar shoot me a look that seemed to say really girl, you still in denial? Before changing her expression to a confident smile.

"Hell yeah."

Skylar gave me a pat on the back and a thumbs up.

I smile, happy that whatever happens I know I have a good friend that will always have my back.

"Hey Skylar, thank you. You're a great friend."

"You can always count on me!"

"Oh and also I take cash donations if you are ever feeling generous enough".

Without missing a beat I give her some five cent coin that I had in my pocket.

"You can keep the change. I am feeling generous today."

We both burst into laughter as we usually do with our hijinks.

Ah good old Skylar, I am so thankful to have her as a friend in my life.

Though something was feeling off until I glanced at the clock in the classroom.

"Oh crap we're late for the next class!"

We were too focused on the conversation that we completely lost track of time. Both Skylar and I dash towards the next class hoping we can still make it on time. Laughing as we race each other.
