I quickly grab on to Jaki before she hits the floor.
"Are you alright?!"
"Sorry I am just a little bit tired."
I instinctively put my forehead against Jaki's to check her temperature. And before I know it I was staring at her with my face inches away from hers.
Now that I am up close to Jaki I am further mesmerized by her beauty. She has beautiful long lashes and her eyes looks even more stunning up close. However there was also a sense of loneliness and melancholy that was hidden within her gaze.
"How much longer are you gonna check my temperature for?"
I immediately moved my head away once I realized what I was doing.
"Sorry about that!"
However her forehead felt like a furnace, she definitely needs to get some rest!
"Anyway I'm sandy from your class and our teacher has tasked me with giving you these worksheets since you were absent."
"Also are you alright? Your forehead is really hot!"
"I see, thank you for your concern but I'll be fine."
Although Jaki says she's fine, she does not seem that way at all. She has a tired and weary expression. On top of that she literally almost fainted from fatigue a second ago.
"By the way are your parents home, I expected them to open the door since you were sick."
"They are both away currently, I am the only one home."
"Anyway is that all?"
"Yeah that's all but..."
As Jaki grabbed the worksheets and was about to close the door I stopped her by grabbing her hand. I was not about to leave as although Jaki might hate my guts, I just couldn't leave her be without knowing that she will be fine. Especially since she doesn't have anyone to take care of her.
"Sorry to impose! But I'm just really concerned about you since you almost passed out earlier and there is no one around to take care of you."
"If its alright can I stay around for a little bit longer just to make sure you are alright."
"Do as you wish. I'm gonna go back to sleep now."
To my surprise I wasn't met with any resistance from Jaki.
"Well now that you're here can you help me back to my bed?"
"O--oh yeah no problem"
Jaki held her hand out signalling me to hold it and help support her when walking. However I just sorta stood there nervously, the idea of holding hands with Jaki was suddenly making my heart beat like crazy. I started worry about all kinds of things.
What if my hands were too sweaty from walking in the sun earlier, what if my hand starts shaking when I'm holding hands with Jaki. What if ---
"Come on lets go, I thought you wanted to help me out."
"O-oh sorry! Yeah lets go."
I held on to Jaki's hand and despite my nerves I somehow managed to keep my composure. But deep down I still can't believe I was holding hands with the Ice Queen of the school!
As we were walking towards Jaki's room I noticed that everything in the house is very minimalistic. It only had the bare necessities and there was no decoration at all.
It was like the house was void of any personality.
Jaki's room was also no exception. Her entire room only consisted of a bed, a desk with a chair and her wardrobe.
As I was helping Jaki on the bed I realised my hand was somehow super sweaty and that it had smeared on to Jaki's hand!
"I'm so sorry Jaki, I can't believe I got the sweat on my hand onto yours!"
"Heh, heh."
I was surprised to hear Jaki chuckle for the first time. It sounded so cute and it was the last thing I expected.
"You're a weird one, always apologizing."
"Anyway its alright I actually quite like it, that hand of yours, the warmth felt nice."
The combination of the chuckle and unexpected compliment from Jaki made my heart skip a beat. I looked down to avoid eye contact as my face begins to blush.
"Aa-h is that so. I see."
I could barely mutter out a proper response as It felt like my heart was going to jump out of my throat.
Well I certainly did not expect today to turn out like this.
