Chapter 3 - Japan

The only thing she hated about flying to Japan was the jet lag. Makayla stepped out of the shiny black limo. Quinton spared no expense with their trip. They arrived in style. Toshiro looked at the hotel in awe. He was impressed. Quinton smiled at Toshiro's reaction it was cute.

"Checking in," the Bellmen asked as he grabbed the luggage and placed it on the gold cart.

"Yes," said Quinton. The Bellmen pushed the cart in front of them.

"So how long are you guys stay?"

"For a while," Quinton said they entered the elevator.

"Nihonjin desu ka?" Toshiro asked the Bellmen.

"Iie, Chukoku jin demo Ryugakusee." replied the bellmen.

"Oh I thought so," Toshiro Commented.

"American jin desu ka?" the Bellmen asked Toshiro. Makayla listened to their conversation she would have told him to be quiet but she wanted him to be able to practice his Japanese.

"Hai demo Nihon jin mo" Toshiro replied

"Oh really," the Bellmen said in English.

"17th floor", the elevator chimed. The doors opened and they walked down the beautiful golden hall, a big chandelier hung in the foyer their room was right off the main hallway. 1735 was displayed on the outside of the two large white double doors. The bellmen opened the door and Toshiro ran inside to look around.

"Wow, this place is nice mom," he yelled. "look a dining room, here is a bedroom" he yelled running back and forth from room to room. "kitchen, bathroom, Oh, it has two bathtubs" Toshiro stopped in front of the two white French doors. He twisted the knob to reveal a balcony that had a majestic view of Tokyo.

"So beautiful," he said "I finally made it to my home."

Toshiro held on to the banister and looked at the city view. His wish had finally come true. Quinton tipped the bellmen. "You guys have a great stay," he told them on his way out. Makayla walked into the bedroom the large window on the left had white curtain that draped the window and blue scarf accented the top. A large king-size bed with matching white linen sat in the middle of the room blue and silver pillows were arranged on the bed. In the adjacent corner sat two white chairs. A flat-screen TV hung on the wall it displayed the message "Welcome to the Ritz." The room was okay but it was too white, it was nothing she hadn't seen before. She moved to the bathroom which had double sinks and a black commode tan and black marble covering the floors. The walls were covered with wallpaper, it was a plain vertical striped pattern in gold. The shower was clear but the gold fixtures made it stand out even more.

"So what do you think," Quinton asked. He kissed her on the cheek.

"It's really nice, thank you," Makayla said graciously.

"So the first rule is that you don't have to say thank you to me," Quinton said as he pulled Makayla into a hug. I"t's my duty to take care of you, so Saturday night is a banquet and I want you to come with me. I'm meeting the guys that I'll be partnering with and I want to show you off," he told her.

"Sure," she said. How could she say no?

"I'll be working most of tomorrow," he told her

"Okay, I understand," she reassured him.

"So I'm going to stay at my apartment so that I do not disturb you."

"Quinton are you-" she was about to say but he cut her off

"Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'll be here to see you when I have time."

"oh," he said grabbing he suitcase "I got these brochures for you , it's schools for Toshiro."

"How long are we planning on staying?" she questioned him.

"Six months at the most," he told her. Makayla's eyes went wide confused. She only expected to be here for 30 days.

"I got to go, babe, I'll see you tomorrow," Quinton said as he kissed Makayla on the cheek and left.

"Mom, what should we do first?" Toshiro asked

"What do you want to do?"

"Let's go sightseeing... we can go anywhere he told her."

"Okay let's go," Makayla walked into the bedroom picked up the phone she pressed the concierge button.

"This is Isumaki," the voice responded.

"Isumaki I need a car, could you find one for me?" she asked.

"Sure ma'am when do you need the car."

"um, now," Makayla said hoping it was possible.

"Um give me 10 minutes and I'll call you back."

"Thank You." Makayla hung up the phone.

"Toshiro why don't you get ready change your shirt." Makayla suggested.

"Why Ma?" Toshiro asks peeping his head around the corner.

"Because you never know who you may see."

"rrrring," the phone lit up .

"Hello."

"Ma'am this is the concierge Isumaki I've found you a car. It's already downstairs just tell the valet your room number."

"Thank you so much Isumaki." Makayla place the phone on the receiver she grabbed her purse, and opened her wallet to make sure the money Quinton gave her was still there. It was and she smiled. It was more money than she had made from waitressing tables.

"Toshiro let's go," she called out to him. Toshiro ran in he had changed clothes he wore khaki pants with a black button-down Calvin Klein Shirt, and his hair gelled up to perfection like his father's. "God he keeps on getting more and more like that man," Makayla thought.

Makayla walked through the lobby Toshiro walked on the side of her he had put on black sunglasses his walk was smooth and confident even for a nine-year-old.

"Mom lets go through the revolving doors," Toshiro becked for his mom to follow, not paying any attention to where he ran over to the door bumping into a man wearing a suit. Makayla rushed over to Toshiro seeing him fall to the ground. The man picked Toshiro up placing him on his feet. "Are you okay?" the man with brown hair asked him. Toshiro nodded back he was a little embarrassed. "Toshiro how many times have I told you not to run inside," Makayla scolded him.

She looked at the man in the suit stunned by who he was. "Jiro?" she questioned. The man's eyes lit up in recognition.

"Makayla," he said pulling her into an embrace. " How are you?" he asked her in Japanese. "It's been a long time."

"I'm good, and it has been a long time. what about you?"

"I'm doing well. I'm here looking for a client of ours but the hotel said he left for today," Jiro explained.

"How's Akika?" She asked him. Akika was one of Makayla's first friends when she came to Japan.

"She's good we have two kids now Fumiko and Cheiko." Jiro explained to her.

"Is that him?" he said in Japanese nodding toward Toshiro.

"Yea, you couldn't tell," Makayla chuckled.

"No, when he ran into me it was like running into my past." Jiro told her. "You should go and see Akika, they still own the restaurant. "But I got to go... I'm still on the clock."

They both walked outside together the valet pulling up in a yellow corvette. He got out walking to Makayla "1735?" he asked her.

"Oh yea, thanks she said to him." Toshiro marveled at the car. It was faboulous. They would be riding around in a yellow Corvette he would be in style like a famous celebrity.

The valet opened the doors for Makayla and Toshiro who got in. "Let's go to the Imperial palace and Tokyo tower" Makayla suggested.

"Can we climb Mt Fuji," Toshiro asked her

"Not in these clothes," she told him "But we can see it."

"Yeah we can do that," he said. Toshiro put his hands behind his head and watched the building pass by him.

"Let's see the zoo too" Makayla smiled. This vacation was going to be good, she was glad she decided to come along with Quinton. Even though they won't be spending a lot of time together she would be able to show Toshiro Japan.

Toshiro snapped pictures of the scenery. "There are so many people here," he said out loud. Makayla and Toshiro walked down the busy street window shopping. Toshiro was standing in front of one window Makayla wondered what he was looking at. She walked over to see a poster for the clothing line Black Butterfly. Hikaru Ayumoto's name was signed on the bottom of the poster. In the middle of the poster was Hikaru he looked like he was from a rap video. He had on baggy jeans and a white shirt with a big black coat that had brown fur trim. His hand was covered with matching brown gloves in his right hand he held a white card that had a black butterfly on it. Makayla chuckled at the advertisement she never thought she'd see him dressed like this.

"Ma, why are you laughing," Toshiro asked

"I just find Japanese fashion weird at times," she lied.

"I think he's cool," Toshiro looked at his mom. She laughed again

"You would find him cool," she said "Let's go."

"I'm hungry," he said to her.

"I know the perfect place to eat," Makayla said to him.
