Chapter 13 - 13. My sister is famous

MIKY'S POV

I was angry with Jessica when we left the house, but the anger didn't last long because I could understand her. Not seeing anything for a long time must be scary, and usually, when Jessica was scared, she's in a bad mood and didn't want anyone to come near her. That's the reason why I trained Wisky, so he can help her around the house or on the street in case I'm not there.

"Change that face. Nothing will happen to Jessica." Carla said with a small smile on her face. "What's happens with your friend and my sister?" I asked curiously. "Do you really want to know things about Jess?" She asked and I nodded, "Of course, I always wanted to help her, and now that I have the opportunity, I don't plan to waste it."

"Alright. Where do you want me to start?" She asked "For the question I just asked you, because I don't understand what interest that man has in my sister." I said, still not completely trusting that man, "That man as you say, is in love with your sister." Carla reported "In love?" I asked, confused.

"Yes, it's a long story that I will tell you, obviously, but to give you a summary, they were friends practically their entire lives, they were inseparable and they defended each other. I still think they always loved each other, but before they realized they loved each other, they were the best friends you could see in the world. At some point, I think, around the age of twelve, Santi realized what he felt for Jess wasn't a friendship like the one they had, but he didn't tell her until after some time." Carla said remembering what had happened between them "Why?" I asked curiously.

"Because at that age he was with a girl who he thought he was madly in love with, but he realized that wasn't the case, and he wanted to make sure with Jessica it wasn't like what happened with that girl, he didn't want to hurt Jess for any reason." She said, "And how long did it take him to discover it?" I asked, "About two hours at least, but it took him almost a year to tell Jess."

"Why?" I asked once more "Because he thought he wasn't enough for her." the singer responded, shrugging her shoulders, "And he's still in love with her? In all this time, you didn't think about looking for her?" I questioned "We were in town when we found out what happened, but Jessica's representative told us she had died."

"And you believed it... Just like that." I said, a little annoyed, "No, we spent a week looking for her in all the hospitals, in all the places she was, but we never found her. For that reason, he didn't want to return to Los Angeles, he really hates the city." He said, laughing, "I don't understand... Now he's here and he doesn't seem to hate it." I said a little confused, "If he's here it's because he didn't have the slightest idea we were going to come here. I made sure he didn't find out because he hadn't come and now, he shouldn't hate it because he found her."

"So, all this time you thought Jess was dead?" I asked, imagining it couldn't be easy at all to discover a person you thought had died four years ago now turns out to be alive. "Yes. Santi never managed to get over Jessica's death. He was ill, so much that I almost forced him to come with me on tour."

"Why?" I asked curiously "Because it was a way to distract him and bring him to the city he hated so much. He was really starting to improve since we started the tour, but right now, since he heard Jessica yesterday morning in the cafeteria, he's practically the same Santi as he was four years ago. I haven't seen him so happy in a while." Carla said with a small smile on her face "He really loves my sister."

"Yes, I can assure you that. He was planning on asking her to marry him when the whole storm thing happened." she confessed "Really?" I asked, surprised. "That's the most serious thing I've ever said in my life." Carla said, "He seems like a good guy." I murmured, more to myself than to her, "He is, and if what you're worried about is if he's going to hurt Jessica, I assure you he won't. He loves her too much to hurt her."

"I trust you Carla, but tell me more about my sister." I asked, trying to find out things about my sister. All the way to the place where the concert would be held, Carla was telling me things about Jessica, and the truth is, I felt a little sorry for her family, because in these years they shouldn't have thought she was dead, especially the man who seemed to be Jessica's boyfriend.

"And what was Jessica doing here?" I asked "She was doing an exhibition." Carla responded, "That's what the lady who was with her said, but about what?" I asked again "She was an artist, a great artist and photographer. She made the cover of my first CD." She said proudly "Jessica?"

"Yeah. I guess you have no idea who she is." She said laughing, "No, I'm not a big fan of art, but I love the drawings Jessica makes from time to time." I answered honestly, "She draws good, to keep you short, she's Jessica Leone. The moment she came here she's beginning to be a great artist, one of the greats. She's also a great photographer and about to sign a contract with her favourite group."

"What was her favourite group?" I asked curiously "Little Mix." Carla simply said "I think it's still her favourite group. She doesn't stop listening to them. But are you telling me she knows them?" I questioned, not being able to imagine Jess's reaction if she knew that. "She knows them and they were starting to be great friends. They were hurt by what happened to her."

"If Jessica finds out she knows them, she'll die." I said, "The first time they contacted her, she almost dies too. She was so happy that she was jumping all over the house." At that moment it occurred to me Jess must have money. She must have had enough money to have surgery and remove the tumour. With that money, we could forget about the blindness she sometimes gets, the headaches that seemed too bad sometimes and maybe it could help her regain her memory somehow.

"Tell me she has money." I asked "Why do you want to know?" she asked, frowning. "Because I need to know." I said "Yes…Jess has a lot of money." She responded a little confused, "How much is a lot?" I asked, wanting to know if Jess could have the operation or not. "She was a millionaire...well, she still is."

And I started jumping. I couldn't help it. At last, she could have surgery and get her life back in some way. I'm too happy and I could tell everyone was looking at me like I had gone crazy, but I didn't care because at this moment I'm too happy thinking Jessica would recover.

"Are you going to tell me you care too much about money?" the singer asked and I laughed, denying "I don't give a shit about money." I assured, "Then why did I come so excited?" She asked confused. "Because Jessica can have surgery." I said "Wait, wait, wait… Surgery? What?" Carla asked, stopping in her tracks.

"When we found Jessica one day on the street, my mother and I took her home because she seemed disoriented, she had no idea where she was. Once there, we discovered she didn't remember anything, so we took her to the doctor and there she was treated by the same person who had been taking care of her all this time, Eric, ..." I started, but she stops me "Is that the man you were talking about before?"

"Yeah. He left medicine and now he has a café, it's where Jess works." I responded, "But why does Jessica have a surgery?" I asked, "Because Jessica has a tumour that causes her to sometimes lose her vision, have major headaches, and other things we probably don't have an idea about."

"What do you mean she has a tumour?" Carla asked "Yeah, Eric said she must have had it before she came to town and I don't know what else, I really was too young to understand." I responded, shrugging my shoulders. "So, what happened to her today…" she began and I nodded. "Yes, it has to do with that."

"But why didn't they do her surgery on her before?" He asked, "We don't have enough money to pay for the surgery, that's why." I said sincerely, "Hence, you're excited that she has money." She responded, understanding the reason for my emotion, "Yeah. I hate to see Jessica bad, and that's how she is in those moments."

"But Jessica isn't going to take all that money." She said, knowing it would likely happen. "It's hers, why wouldn't she accept it?" I asked, confused. "She's too stubborn, that seems to be still intact and too proud, she's going to think we're telling her so she can have surgery." Carla responded "Shit." I muttered.

"We have to find a way to convince her everything we tell her isn't a lie, and I think there's only one way to convince her." She said with a smile beginning to form on her face. "How?" I asked curiously, "Taking her to Italy." She responded "Why?"

"Because there she has her family, her life. It's the only way to show her everything we tell her isn't a lie." Carla said, "Will I have to stay here?" I asked, not liking too much the idea about what would happen if Jess decided to return to Italy. "No way, it's something Jessica wouldn't allow, but I'm not going to allow it either."

"Then what do we do?" I asked and Carla's smile widened. "Little one, get ready to discover Italy." She responded, "There will be no way to convince her to go to Italy." I murmured, looking ahead. "And that, dear dwarf, is where you come into action."

"Me?" I asked, confused and trying to follow her train of thought "You're the only one at this moment who can convince Jessica of anything. You will have to be in charge of convincing Jessica we must go to Italy."

That seemed like a great idea to me. It's not because I'm going to go to Italy, but because it would be the only way for Jessica to recover and get her life back, because everyone, her family who must have missed her and I couldn't be happier for her.
