The sunflowers that the teachers and students had planted in the spring were now in full bloom. These resilient plants, which had been sown in the wasteland, were blooming with their small, colorful blossoms, and looked quite beautiful at the moment.
Clarence Hughes was surprised to discover that there were still people in the schoolhouse.
As he approached the open classroom, he found a young female teacher organizing the room with two students.
"Principal Miller, you're back?" The female teacher heard the footsteps, turned her head, saw Principal Miller, and greeted him with excitement.
"Sarah Collins, why haven't you gone home?" Clarence Hughes asked, puzzled.
"I did go home, but then I came back." Miss Collins' smile faded a bit as she explained, but then she brightened up again,
"Principal Miller, did you know? All the teachers in our county got a bonus, and it's not a small amount! Oh, and there's a share for you too..."
