The second day, Luke called early to meet with Sean Knight.
Sean didn't expect that, once the matter was settled, Luke would treat him like family and invited him directly to his home.
Luke's home was on the other side of New York City. When Sean drove there, he found it was an apartment building. There were some mischievous children playing nearby, and occasionally a ball would hit a wall or a door, with no one to stop them.
Some of the walls on the side of the buildings had strange graffiti, vagrants staggered past, ignoring them.
A few people were whispering in the wall corner, occasionally casting glances at their surroundings.
Many more people outside were watching Sean's big black SUV with wary or hostile eyes.
This was not a safe neighborhood.
Sean suddenly understood why Luke was so anxious yesterday and why he couldn't finish his sentences.
"Lincoln, you and Douglas stay in the car. Act as needed," Sean instructed, "Elijah, you come with me."
