Everyone looked at Sean Knight because after moving all those gunpowder boxes, the cave was empty. Behind them was a solid mountain wall.
Could the treasure be just this dark gunpowder?
That would be too outrageous, right?
Unflustered by everyone's stares, Sean took a shovel and walked into the cave.
He had put on a headlamp by now.
Walking into the cave, Sean gently knocked on the cave wall with the handle of the shovel.
A hollow sound came through.
"Empty?" Penson Smith's spirits lifted, "Is there a space inside?"
"Almost." Sean said, "The person who designed the mechanism probably feared that the gunpowder explosion might damage certain things, so they built a wall behind the gunpowder to block its power."
"Come, let's break through this wall." Sean pointed to the cave wall.
The wall was built very realistically, and with the years that had passed, layers of moss had grown on it. If one only looked, it would certainly be indistinguishable.
