Chapter 20 - 20 Trial 1

"Haha look at that kid picking up a supportive item."

"Such a puss, back in my days we could complete the trial bare-handed."

"Cut the crap. You can't even lift a greatsword properly. That's why you have to use go bare hand. I bet you aren't even that powerful!"

"Would you like to try?"

"Bring it on then!"

The tribesmen hunter watch as the preparation phase of the hunt goes on. They only have 30 minutes to pick the item they want. With Michael being the first person to finish his item selection, he went into the forest first.

In the trial, kids would get monitored when doing it to confirm that they won't cheat but, they can't monitor them all day so the hunters will split the time to watch the children. The participant must carry a wisp bottle that could be tracked by another bottle to let the hunters know their position.

The wisp's name is Hop, also known as Hopper wisp, they are a species that live all over the world and specifically breed by humans to use as tracking devices. These wisps only survive in the dark environment. If they ever came into contact with light they would perish.

The normal Hopper could be tracked by using their queen. It'll point you to the nearest hopper in the area. The hopper only works if they're from the same colony.

When the wisp dies either by light contact or by owner killing. It usually means that they need to be rescued. This method couldn't be used if the victim is on the move or getting killed but, it is the most reliable way to get him.

Blue by color the wisp looks like an insect with transparent wings although, most of the time its body is blind by its own light, Its wisps still look quite enchanting. Sadly they could only stay in a pitch-black bottle during the day.

Michael set his destination to the south side of the island. He has been there many times already so he should be pretty familiar with the area.

2 hours later

He's in a familiar part of the forest, and walking through it he can see many trails of animals and monsters, however, he is only here to find one thing. An alma lizard!

But first, he has to prepare the trap for his prey. The south forest is like a playground for him. He could easily find the right place for his trap. It only took him around 3 hours this time and it only took that long because of more requirements for his trap.

Last time he could kill the lizard but, he's still cautious. What if the lizard is stronger? what if the lizard is faster and he can't run? He has to prepare more so that he wouldn't be in that situation in the first place! Michael did not feel safe being chased by a lizard.

While he was searching for the trap he also prepare a leaf bed for himself to use. The last one is quite uncomfortable so this time he brought a soft bush. He opens the jar and a soft white fur drop out. Michael then pours some water onto it. The white bush instantly expands to around 2 meters and acts like a bed.

This is an item imported from a foreign land. Even if Boniha did not have a good relationship with mainlanders it doesn't mean that they can't be allied with other nations. This one came from the Eastern land where the sun rises first. They greatly value comfort and come up with a new invention every year.

Michael wants to go to this place someday to see their weird invention.

Back to the hunt. With Michael's experience, he could set up the trap faster than last time, however, it still takes around 2 hours. He also scouts around the place to find where he would likely lead the lizard to minimize his risk. This process takes much more than 3 hours and the sky is already dark.

They set up a campfire and made grilled meat. When walking earlier he found a rare ground animal and make them into his meals. in the time he set up the trap he also made a wooden spear by sharpening a breach edge.

And with the preparation done. He spends his first day only doing traps he wanders what the other people are doing.

-North side of the forest-

A young girl could be seen waiting for a piece of meat to cook while she practice her swing. Layla is a nice-looking girl, her hair is tied up into a ponytail. She wears quite heavy leather armor for her age it covers most of her body and is difficult to move in if the water doesn't have enough strength but, it didn't matter. With her strength, she could easily carry this much weight.

While the sky begins to darken she felt like she has disappointed Gurara and the village. She helps Michael participate in the trial but, she also didn't have the feeling of owing someone. Michael feeds his hunt to her earlier so, she should get him out of trouble.

Now they're even, however, there wouldn't be next time.

Being with her friends, She has learned the despicable thing that Mainlanders has done. Making them a slave or using them as living meatshield. They said that when Michael grow up he would become a disgusting Mainlander. No matter where you are you can't suppress your bloodline! Just like the Boniha tribe's strong body! It's in their blood.

Her friend and the Boniha tribe echo this sentiment. Only Gurara is different. She thinks that Gurara also knew this fact but only protect Michael out of pity. So she admires her dad for his act to raise a poisonous snake even though it would come and bite him someday.

'I can't slack off'

Yesterday she is truly surprised that Michael have hunted the alma lizard. She chose to believe it because of Gurara but, Michael must have stolen it from someone! No way his weak body could hunt the alma lizard.

However, even if she thinks that it's stolen, Layal still has to repay Micahel for the meal. even if it's not his a meal is still from him!

Her hunt is going well too. She found a trace of the alma lizard earlier and expect to enter a weakening phase with it. If everything goes well she could even finish the job in three days. That is a high record in the Boniha tribe!

Even the current chief took 3 days to hunt in the trial! And by the end, he also hunts two monsters! That's her goal.

'Dad's going to be so proud!'

Thinking about Gurara's surprised reaction made her smile.
