Chereads / The Apex hunter / Chapter 14 - 14 The fruit

Chapter 14 - 14 The fruit

Michael's tree climber digs into the semi-transparent tree. It felt a little wobbly when he tries to climb it. With most trees are solid but, this one is kind of slippery. Brava on the other hand seems to not be having any problem with the tree.

His body swiftly climbs the tree with a weird motion. Michael could see Brava climb the tree but there was something awkward about it. It felt like Brava's body didn't make a contact with the tree but he didn't think much about it.

Following the long hair kid upward Michael and Brava finally arrive at the alma fruit. Alma fruit has many different sizes to them, ranging from a little over a hand size to bigger than people's heads. However, Michael hasn't seen alma fruit this big. In front of him is an alma fruit that is almost as big as himself.

How could the lizard miss this yesterday?

He doesn't know but, Michael sure is happy about the find.

"Wow, you really aren't lying to me," Michael said in a slightly surprised tone. He is 70% sure that this is either a trap or a prank but, Brava subverts his expectation.

"Brava never lied!" the kid replied with the 'I told you so' tone and quickly climb up next to the alma fruit. he looks at it with curiosity in his eyes.

"How do we bring it down?" Michael ask. This alma fruit is the biggest he has ever seen, the fruit alone could last him many days meals, and he doesn't know how to get it down. The fruit is too big for him to carry down. There's not a tool to bring big alma fruit down unless...

"Could you bring it down?"

"... Nope" Brava smile.

"Why?" By now brava look, Michael could guess that he was the kid around average strength in the Boniha tribe so he shouldn't have a problem carrying the fruit down.

"Well, despite how I look I'm quite weak"

"What?" This is the first time he heard a Boniha tribesman say that they are weak. Even the weakest of the tribesman would still say that they are strong when someone asks. It's truly the first time he heard someone saying it.

"Really, I'm not.."

"Brava never lies right?"

"Yeah."

Seeing his new friend look Michael couldn't help but smile, This is the first time that he could relate to someone. However, what is more, important is how he would get this fruit down. If he cut the fruit from here it would fall down, splash to the ground and become unusable as bait.

If Brava could carry this thing on one hand this trouble would be much easier. Then what if we use two people? one on each side. That could work but, Michael couldn't trust his muscle to hold another side.

Michael could only see total darkness when he turned to look around. The mangrove tree has obstructed the moonlight, so it barely illuminates a portion of the jungle. Michael then thinks about the mangrove leaf.

Maybe?

Quickly thinking about a solution. Michael explains what he wants to do to Brava and the long hair kid seems pretty excited and quickly agrees. They both ascend past the fruit and find a bundle of leaves off the tree branch. They then hop downward to warp the alma fruit with the leaves.

Michael plans to lessen the strength that is needed to carry the fruit down by wrapping it with a leaf and having him and Brava slowly lower it down with two people.

After the leaf was set up he initiated the countdown.

3 2 1....

Cut!

He slashes the stem of the fruit and it falls right into the leaves he set up in the tree. With him and Brava holding the leaf up. Initially, Michael was shocked by how heavy it is and almost lost grip on the leaf that he was holding. However, he quickly recovers and lowers it down with Brava.

Step by step Brava and Michael lower the fruit down to the ground successfully.

"We did it! You are a genius, Michael."

"I...If I were any other Boniha kid this wouldn't be a problem in the first place." Michael embarrassed by the sudden compliment can't help but scratch his chin.

"No, Michael you are really good at this. If I was in your position I would just call more people over. So, be proud Michael!"

"haha" getting more compliments he can't help himself but laugh and change the topic. "Let's carry it back before it is too late into the night."

"Weren't you gonna eat It?" Brava look disappointed.

"Well, this is for a trap that I am setting up," Michael explains his trap to Brava with a look of excitement. He finally has a person to talk to. He shares his plan and would like Brava to help him bring the fruit to his trap.

"I could help you but I have one condition."

"What is it?"

"Let's eat half of this!"

"What?"

"Well, you don't need all of this fruit for the bait right? This one is clearly too big to carry around safely so, Let eat it here!" Brava said with a glimmer in his eyes.

"Sure..." after thinking a bit he can't argue with Brava. He doesn't need the whole fruit to be the bait and if he wants to carry this back to his camp it would take ages to do so. Michael brandishes his knife and then cut it into the fruit. With how big it is Michael has to roll the fruit while he cut it.

pah!

After he cut all the way around it spilled open revealing a water fruit inside. An alma fruit aroma roams the air inviting everybody near it to taste its wonderful flavors. Michael quickly covers the half that he won't eat in mud to mask the smell. With a little fire from his torch, he and Brava then enjoy the other half of Fruit in peace.

A while later

In the dark, two figures could be seen carrying a big alma fruit that has been cut in half. Through the forest with only torchlight. upon reaching their destination the two place down the alma fruit near the fireplace.

With it covered in mud and near a fireplace, there is less chance that someone or something would steal it.

"Thank you, Brava"

"No need! I already got my payment! That alma fruit tastes fresh and so delicious!"

"Yeah It's a little sweet than it usually tastes but, it's still pretty good."

"It's quite late now are you going back to the village?"

"No, my uncle... make a test for me that I have to hunt an alma lizard before the trial or he won't let me back in the village."

"Wow, This uncle of yours is quite strict." Brava made a surprised face "Anyway I'll be going back to the village, nice knowing you Michael. Maybe we will see each other at the trial."

"Nice knowing you too... um.. where could I find you?" He wants to be with Brava more.

"Well... with my curse it's up to chance that you could find me but if you're lucky enough you will most likely find me on the south side of the forest. I'm not called the sneaky Brava for nothing!"

"Sure...but, I want to play with you again..."

"Um..." Brava is deep in thought and comes up with an idea to assure Michael. Then he extends his pinky finger. "Here let's do a pinky promise!"

Michael looks at Brava and extends his pinky finger to wrap around Brava's. He felt a little more assured that he would find his friend the next time he visits.

"See you then.."

"Yeah, good luck with your hunt, and also good luck finding me next time!"

With parting words, Brava disappears into the dark night. Michael waves and sits back down in front of the campfire. He is quite pleased with this day. He is even happier than hunting monsters for the first time!
