Chapter 4 - Chapter Three: Intertwined Fates

The dimly lit room cast elongated shadows, creating an aura of mystery that hung in the air. An eerie silence enveloped the space as semi-divine being approached the dying main character - Xiao Mo. It has penetrating eyes shimmering like amethyst and the space warped around its being as if unable to contain its might. Xiao Mo quietly lay there, with her senses slowly fading into obscurity.

"Return."

With a gentle nudge, the cat disrupted the fragile equilibrium of her slumber in between the realm of consciousness and subconsciousness. Slowly, she begins to wake up. A jolt of awareness coursed through her, gradually rekindling the flickering flame of her withering spirit. Her eyes fluttered open, revealing a haze of confusion and exhaustion. And there, beside her, was a divine being, staring at her with an intensity that seemed to peer into the depths of her soul.

An ancient voice was heard breaking the stillness of the room, in a language that seemed to transcend time and space, yet so familiar to herself. "Are you willing to hear my story?" the small creature asked, its words laced with power and dignity. The air seemed to hold its breath, as the universe itself awaited her response - an answer to fate, to a new destiny.

The morning sunlight spilled through the parted curtains of a musty shed, casting a warm glow on Xiao Mo - or rather, Mo Ke, as she was now known. She blinked her eyes a few times before taking in her surroundings with a mix of confusion and wonder. The body she inhabited felt different, the limbs and contours foreign to her own. And there, nestled on her slender finger, sat an old, rustic ring. It slightly resembled a mini curled-up cat nestled on her forefinger.

As the fog in her mind receded, a faint memory tickled at the edges of Mo Ke's consciousness. The ancient voice still echoed in her mind, carved into her very existence. She had been granted a second chance, thrusted into a new space-time, and given the opportunity to explore a realm that was stars away from her original world.

She quickly adapted to her new role. An important mission was placed upon her shoulders - to rescue this crumbling world from its impending doom. Information about this new world was quickly sorted in her mind.

According to the fragments of information she inherited from her new body, this world is an isolated realm with its own civilization. It has existed as an ancient, prehistoric realm, a place where magic and fantasy still danced upon the threads of its reality. However, time flowed differently within as the time in here is a mere fraction of the passing time of the main world it had been banished from.

However, eons unfurled and new worlds emerged that interweaved with the fabric of space and time around it. Collisions of worlds became inevitable, as if there were cosmic forces conspiring to forge a convergence. And this world is fated to destruction, as result of a collision with a mightier, more formidable realm and becoming its sacrificial offering to a higher power transcendence in the end.

To alter the destiny of this grim ending, the guardian of this world - an entity with power surpassing mortal comprehension - had bestowed great blessings upon a select few native inhabitants, hoping to imbue them with enough strength and prowess to resist the encroaching invaders. Yet, destiny could never be easily altered and rebellious notions only led to a more treacherous twist that befell this world. Destruction consumed it from within, long before it had the chance to encounter the mighty continent of its enemies.

Unwilling to surrender this world to its dire fate under his supervision, the guardian, fueled by a steadfast determination, tapped into its divine essence once more. It rewound the tapestry of time, scouring the vast expanse of alternate worlds in search of alternative paths that could avert this impending catastrophe.

Mo Ke sighed at the fate of the young girl in her memory. She had lived and endured until the very end, doing her utmost for what she believed was her true fate and destiny, only to be painfully betrayed by the one she gave her heart to. If she had persisted till the end and not insisted on sacrificing herself to give the world a second chance, she would not have perished in such a miserable state. In some ways, they are actually quite similar. Even their natural talent and powers are like two sides of the same coin.

Mo Ke (nicknamed Ke Ke) is a supporting character hero from the very beginning. She was a talented witch, a dark mage, specializing in curses. Ke Ke has a Chaos body bloodline, making her extremely sensitive to spiritual power and giving her all kinds of abilities that can attack a person's psyche without visible signs. Her curses are lethal and undetectable most of the time, with many of her victims falling prey to it without their knowledge.

However, there are restrictions to her powers too. She would receive a backlash from time to time, causing her soul to be in anguish and pain. She would also need to suffer physical pain from a young age as her body is too frail and weak to contain her monstrous spirit power.

Now that Xiao Mo and Ke Ke had been integrated in both spirit and body, it seemed that most of the backlash from their respective powers had reached a delicate balance. Ke Ke's final spell of sacrificing her spirit to summon an heir to her body made it possible for Xiao Mo's spirit to inherit all of her existence in this world, including her powers, memories of her past life and unfortunately, her wealth of emotions too. The conflicted feelings she had for the antagonist, the traitors as well as her nominal brother, considered the Main Hero of the previous timeline, were quite overwhelming.

Xiao Mo had always been unable to feel much, as the more blessings she gave, the less she was able to feel, as if she was slowly becoming an indifferent and lofty Saint. On the other hand, the more curses Ke Ke cast upon others, the more her emotions fluctuate in intensity, as if the feedback of emotions from her victims fed her powers.

Nevertheless, Mo Ke was satisfied with her current situation. She was not bound to any organization and she was basically given free reign to how she would go about her duties in saving the world. She even had a powerful artifact given by the Divine Guardian to help her. Add that to her two powerful abilities, it is not impossible for the fate of the future to be changed.

Silently, she thanked Ke Ke in her heart. Without her sacrifice and the Divine being's intervention, she would not have another chance to be here and make up for her regrets in the past live, for both of them.
