RRRRRRRRRRRRING
Lunch break has started.
Ichika looks at Wei and Johann. The P.E teacher should be here anytime to take them to the field to test their ability out. In front of the entire school.
The three of them look at the door, anticipating for someone to enter…..
Nobody….
Nobody…
Why isn't any-
The door opens and Mr Patti, the P.E teacher stands outside. "Whoever wants to get the Junior Hunter pass, come to me."
Ichika, Wei and Johann stand up and walk up to the teacher. Nobody else in the class wants to become a Hunter.
"Is that it?" the PE teacher asks.
One hand in the back raises up. The hand is close to the place where Ichika sits.
The owner of the hand stands up. It's Miso.
"What? Him?" Ichika looks surprised.
The surprise passes and is replaced with disgust. Out of all the people in the class, in her opinion he's the worst student to apply for this. He's lazy, unmotivated, untalented, and if she could recall his ability stats, he had zero defense and barely any offence.
"BWAHAHA! Hell yeah, bro! C'mere!" Johann laughs. Not out of encouragement, though. Johann thinks that Miso is going to fail miserably, and he can't wait to watch the hilarity that will ensue.
"Oh?" Wei Lim looks at Miso curiously.
The class starts whispering.
"Him?"
"There's no way."
"Dude, what if he actually passes?"
Miso gets up from the seat, visibly nervous. His lazy look has been replaced with one of pure adrenaline. He hesitantly walks to the PE teacher.
Mr Patti looks at him in surprise. He has a sharp intuition for strong people. Ichika, Wei Lim and Johann set his 'strongness' alarm off all right, but this kid.....
Nothing.
Mr. Patti knows Miso's going to fail in the most spectacular fashion.
This is Miso's life. This is a test of what he's been working for all his life.
The others, unfortunately, have already got all their abilities 2-3 years ago. Miso only got his second strongest feature, Nobody (complete invisibility) last year.
And his dash hadn't arrived yet.
'Now would be a good time to arrive, Dash.' He thinks to himself.
They walk through the corridor to class B. "Whoever wants to join the Junior Hunter test, come to me."
Three kids.
They walk to class C. "Whoever wants to join the Junior Hunter test, come to me."
Five kids.
They walk to class D
Three kids.
A total of 14 kids, including Miso want to try the Junior Hunter test to get a permit for some work experience.
Everyone in the corridor stares at these 14 kids. They're all probably gifted with insane powers.
Dead silence as they walk out of the building. Even the teachers are staring at these 14 kids.
They go to the field and practically everyone in the school - students and teachers - is standing outside, eager to watch these kids in action.
"Okay kids, stay there for a bit-" Mr Patti points at a small shaded location in the corner of the field – "I'll get the equipment."
They sit on the bench in the shaded area. The perimeter of the field is fenced and the fence is about 1 meter high.
Since they're at the corner, they're close to the kids who are eagerly ready to watch the test.
"Hey, you, what is your ability?"
"What are you going to be tested on?"
"How strong are you?"
The kids ask a lot of questions to the test takers, but they're ignored.
This doesn't calm Miso's nerves. He stands up from the bench and tries to walk his anxiety off.
"Hey- hey you with the piercing." Some kid calls to Miso.
Miso's the only kid in the test takers with the ear piercings, so it has to be him. He turns back nervously, "Uhh..me?"
"Yeah. How much is your offence?"
"Not- not much." Miso replies.
"Defense?"
Miso tries to act cool, but he's getting a little embarrassed.
"Umm…zero."
"Wha-at?" The kid laughs. "Then what's the difference between you and me?"
The kid's friend laughs as well, "Why are you even competing for this?"
"Uhhh.." Miso tries to come up with an answer.
"Shut up." One of the test takers replies to those kids. He's wearing round glasses, has short light blue hair, eyes of the same colour and really dark skin. "Why don't you come up here, then?"
Everyone becomes momentarily silent.
"Fucking asshole." The kid finally replies but stays silent after that.
"Ignore them." The light blue eyed test taker tells Miso. "We've got enough to worry about. No point also worrying about what these morons say."
"Thanks." Miso replies.
One of the test takers says, "What do you have to worry about, Cristopher? You're one of the strongest in the school."
"I hate tests, dude. Got PTSD from all the shit our school gives us." The blue haired kid – Cristopher replies.
"Anyways-" Christopher looks back at Miso, "Best of luck."
"Oh…thanks." Miso replies and stays quiet.
Cristopher stares at him for a few seconds, as if Miso punched his grandmother. Then he finally says, "Dude, you have to wish me luck too."
"Oh, yeah…best of luck."
Cristopher grins, "Thanks, man." He pats Miso's shoulder and sits back on the bench.
A few minutes pass before the P.E teacher comes back with a couple of other school staff members carrying a bunch of equipment.
"Okay, listen up kids." The PE teacher says. "You'll be having three tests. The first one is to break through at least ten of the thirty metal pipes here-" he points at a crate containing medium sized metal pipes "-using any of your features."
Miso grinned. YES. His swords could come in use.
He looked back and saw that nobody was really happy. They all looked bored, as if this wasn't all that big of a challenge.
"The second and third tests are going to test your defensiveness and agility."
Miso's eyes started sparkling. He might fail the second test, but the third one is what his entire ability is specialized for.
"You'll have to dodge balls shot from the cannon over there - " He points at a cannon at the other end of the field "And the third test is simply a 400 meter sprint."
NONE OF HIS ABILITIES HELP IN THIS TEST!
Now would be a really good time to arrive, Dash.
Okay, okay. He just has to perform decently at it, and he'll get the junior hunter pass. Calm down, calm down. He can do it. Trust yourself more, man.
"Alright, let's start with the first test."
