But my body tensed hearing the next conversation. My ears perked hungrily to not miss a single word. The pale face of Crystal and quiver in her voice held my entire attention. Her hands trembled occasionally as she answered the questions. Her eyes were closed for long as if silently taking the torment. By now, I was well aware of the caller from the other side. The moment she uttered father, my vision went red. My fists clenched, itching to ram against the face of the so-called father, again and again. Why has he called her? She looked scared and shaken up. Was he threatening her? I didn’t want to do anything but hold her. Hide her in my embrace. She doesn’t deserve this.
