By now, Arnold has sensed her getting nervous in his presence. He didn’t want her to jump on his every approach. She was insecure around him. He regretted that vulnerable moment in between them and had wished to talk her out of mortification rather than laughing like a lunatic. But how? He was so inexperienced in this department. He did apologize, didn’t he? But was that enough? Why her feelings matter to him? Who was she to him? The moment she will finish her role in the plan, he will discard her.
