#Chapter168
Vomit. The smell was almost as putrid as the taste. Isaac made a sound, but his eyes were glued on the blue Honda that had slammed on the brakes less than a meter away from Asa. He'd been spared. Barely.
And then there was noise. Shouting. The man in the car had stepped out, waving his arms around. Asa just stood there, pale as flour and eyes so wide they seemed eerie.
Ronan recovered first. He dashed forward into the standstill of traffic, dodging the way Isaac tried to grab onto him as he passed, and engulfed the boy into a hug, apologizing to the mean Mister, pulling Azey towards the curb side.
Asa was frozen. Didn't say anything. Didn't protest or fight. He just sank to the ground next to Isaac when Ronan let him go. Just stared. Just blinked.
It was scary. It made him cover his eyes again and wish he knew what to do, but his stupid brain wouldn't tell him the answers.
