And yeah, when they'd first started arguing all the time, he had been a bitch about it and would make things worse by retaliating, but when he'd grown to fear the repercussions, when he'd quit fighting and tried so hard to be good . . . was it really the same?

Sly still called his Vader Anakin because he said Vader was a bad bear sometimes, but there was still good in him, so he chose to acknowledge the good in him. It was sweet and cute, and perhaps a bit insane considering it was all stemmed from a fictional series, but it was one of the many quirks he adored about the boy, and he nodded his thanks.
