Giving a sullen nod, I kept my eyes on my food. I had been starving only a few minutes ago but my appetite took a suicidal leap, leaving my throat too dry to even think about swallowing the rest. I forced a sip of the bottle of Brothers Toffee Apple cider in hopes that it would help. It didn't.
/"Deek, what if they say something?/" I whispered at last, risking a glance up at him. He was oddly calm. A lot more so than I would have been if his ex had walked in, even if it had been somebody other than the fucking prick I had met on our first date.
/"You're in a much better and stable place than you used to be, my Isaac,/" Deacon said at last. /"I think you'd be mature enough to just brush it off and walk away. They've been horrible to you. They're not worth your time./"
