There’s a yell of warning from the two men in the hide, the bushes part behind the three, Piet swings around, his rifle at the ready and a warthog bursts out of the brush, takes one look at the three men, and bolts back into the undergrowth.

A sound of feeding has stopped, and the forest is still, the men move forward once again, the light from the torch stabbing the darkness ahead of them.
The killer hears the approaching group, the yelled warning, the retreating warthog and the murmur of voices. The sharp scent of gun oil is carried to him, along with the scent of man and with a low growl of warning in his throat he rises from his kill to confront the threat.
