Chapter 4 - Chapter4

#Chapter4

/"Thanks./" I turned, shifting my eyes on the classroom to find an empty seat. There were a few, so I took the one in the back. You know, away from the eyes.

Finding a seat to call home, I settled into a seat in the back. I dug into my bag and pulled my notebook and a writing utensil.

/" Hi, I'm Keisha, what's your name?/" A female's whisper caught my immediate attention. A pair of wide eyes and a greeting smile met me when I turned.

Her voice sounded so jovial and sweet with a hint of a Spanish accent.

/" I'm Aniyah./" I whispered as I smiled back at her.

/"Cool./" She smiled, focusing back on the teacher who was clearing his throat to catch our attention.

Once my English class was over, I walked across the hall to my honors history class. I was the first one inside so I didn't have to worry about the curious eyes burning holes into me.

Once in my history teacher, Ms. Johnson, handed me my papers before I took a seat in the back.

This class seemed to end faster then the last class but was still so slow. Once the class was over I packed my things, and walked out.

/"Hey!/" A familiar voice called out to me.

/"Oh hey?/" I gave her a genuine smile.

/"Where you heading now?/" She began walking beside me.

/"Well I'm suppose to have lunch now but I'm not sure where it-/"

/"GREAT! So do I. Come on, I'll show you./" Tugging my arm, she began pulling me into another direction.

Entering the cafeteria, I was a little taken back by it. It looked more to me like a fancy diner rather then an actual school cafeteria. It had booth seating, little dining tables, and light music playing from small speakers in the background.

/"We can sit at this booth!/" My wrist still in her grasp, she pulled in to the direction of the booths.

I sat down across from her in a small booth which was a reasonable size. Comfortable in my seat, my stomach rumbled a little.

SHIT!!!

Quite sure that Keisha heard my angry stomach, she looked up at me and laughed.

/"You can get you something to eat. The cafe makes hoagies, cheeseburgers, and other stuff./" she assured.

I chuckled a little. A little embarrassed that my stomach was calling the shots, I got up and walked toward the lunch line.

Standing over my prison's lunch line, I snatched up some food. I picked up a pre-made hoagie, some chips, and a juice. Once I out of the line, I walked back toward the booth with Keisha. I took a seat and started unwrapping my food.

/"Um what happened to the 'primary office' plan!/" Someone questioned.

Turning my head, I came face to face with the girl I was with earlier.

FUCK! What is her name?

/"Sorry, I thought you were busy./" I lied. /"So I came down here with Keisha./"

Her lips dropped to a frown. Her eyes shifted from mine to Keisha.

/"Stealing friends, I see./" The girl said.

/"Whatever, come sit down./" Keisha said, inching over for the girl to sit down beside her.

/" I'm Keira./" She gave me her name.

Good, I could not say 'girl' for the rest of the school year.

/"Aniyah./" I introduced myself for the sixth time today.

A smile on her, she dug into her pocket and pulled her cellphone.

Weirdly as it might sound, I could not help but stare at Keira. She was gorgeous. She had this slim body that reminded me of a model and this full blonde hair that flowed to her waist. She also had this biker chick attitude and apparel which confused me. She wore black cut-up tight leg jeans, a black fitted t-shirt, and some black sneakers.

/"So, where you from?/" Keira questioned, snapping me out of my thoughts.

/"Huh? Oh, I'm from Philadelphia./"

/"Oooooh a city girl huh?/" She toyed, nudging Keisha with her elbow. /"What made you move to our little place?/"

/"My mom had got a promotion which required her to move here. Well us./" I said, looking down at my food.

/"Oh, so how did your family take the sudden move? I mean, going from the lively city to something as small as here./"

/"Well its just me and my mom./" I confirmed. /"It would have been me and my entire family but my dad had passed away last year and my brother..... He's.... Out living his life./"

I had no idea where he was. He became anti-social, rebellious, and thought his life would be better if he was on his own. Hooked into the wrong crowd, he turned into someone we never knew. I just never thought it would be him.

/"Hmm boys will be boys./" Keira continued.

/"Yeah./" I jumped in. A little discouraged about thinking of the story, I hopped for a change in subject. Something that did not involve my torn family.

/"So, how old are you Aniyah?/" Keira asked while stealing a chip from my bag.

/"I'm seventeen, I turn eighteen on Saturday. /" I said.

/" Nice. I turned eighteen last month./" Keira stated. /"So, what are you doing to celebrate?/"

/"Well, my mom and I might go out for dinner and a movie. Nothing special./" I said, taking a bite of my hoagie.

She frowned a little at my celebration plans. What? Were they not good enough? Her sour facial expression brightened to a smile.

/"I will take you out then./" Keira said, crunching down on the second chip she swiped out of my bag.

/"Okay. Where though?/"

/"A party. It is this Saturday. It’s at a local club./" she cleared up. /"It’s always fun there. Plus, me and Keisha were planning on going so I can pick you up./"

/"Okay, sounds fun. I’m in./"

/"Yay!/" Keisha clapped.

A friendly party sounded good to me.

Finishing our lunches, we all exchanged phone numbers before the school bell sounded, informing us that lunch has ended and it was time to return to our cells.
