I met Maddie at the burger joint after dropping off my groceries. I entered as she waved to me from a table. I strolled over and sat across from her.
Maddie played with a napkin. /"I didn’t expect you to show./"
/"Why not?/"
/"Because guys like you don’t have lunch with girls like me./"
/"What’s that supposed to mean?/"
/"Well, you’re hot, and I’m not./" Maddie averted her eyes from me.
/"I don’t think appearances matter./"
Maddie’s face snapped in my direction.
/"My brother and I talked about appearances. He challenged me to ask out a girl with extra padding./"
Maddie’s brows furrowed.
/"I didn’t accept his challenge./"
Her brows knitted together, trying to figure out what I meant.
/"I don’t date a girl based on her appearance. I seek other qualities. Their appearance is a bonus./"
/"I’m not sure I understand what you mean./"
