The academy was a sprawling complex of stone buildings and lush gardens. It was located on the outskirts of the city, nestled among the rolling hills and forests of the countryside. As we approached the main gates, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. I had never seen anything like it before.
Merlin led me through the gates and into the courtyard, where a group of students were practicing magic under the watchful eyes of their instructors. Some were conjuring balls of fire, while others were making objects float in the air. It was like something out of a fantasy movie.
We made our way to the main building, where Merlin introduced me to the headmaster, a regal-looking man with graying hair and piercing green eyes. He greeted me warmly and invited us into his office.
"Welcome to the academy, Rika," the headmaster said, gesturing to a pair of chairs in front of his desk. "Merlin has told me about your unique situation. We are always eager to welcome new students, especially ones with such unusual circumstances."
I thanked the headmaster and sat down, feeling a little overwhelmed by everything that was happening.
"Now then," the headmaster said, looking at me intently. "Let us see what kind of magic you possess. Merlin, if you would be so kind as to assist me?"
Merlin nodded and took a seat next to me. The headmaster reached into his pocket and retrieved a small crystal ball, which he placed on the desk in front of us.
"Now, Rika," he said, looking at me with a serious expression. "I want you to focus on the crystal ball. Clear your mind and try to channel your magical energy into it."
I took a deep breath and did as he instructed, focusing all my attention on the crystal ball. At first, nothing happened. But then, suddenly, the ball began to glow. I watched in amazement as it turned from a pale white to a bright orange.
"Well done, Rika," the headmaster said, a look of surprise on his face. "It seems that you possess a strong affinity for fire magic. This is a rare and powerful gift. With the right training, you could become one of the greatest mages in the land."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Fire magic? Me? It was hard to wrap my head around.
"Thank you, sir," I said, feeling a surge of excitement. "I'll do my best to become a great mage."
The headmaster smiled and nodded. "I have no doubt that you will. Now, let us begin your training. Merlin, if you would be so kind as to show Rika to her quarters and get her settled in?"
Merlin nodded and stood up, offering me his hand. "Come on, Rika," he said with a grin. "Let's go get you settled in."
I followed Merlin out of the headmaster's office, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness. I had no idea what the future held, but I was ready to embrace it and see what this world of magic had in store for me.
