Upon sitting down at the table, Cavilhaugh inquired of me.
"So… What happened?"
"I turned in everything. Now we wait for a response from the Hall Master. With luck we can leave this place by sundown."
"Don't you think your being too optimistic about this whole thing!? If I were the one to create this request, I would most certainly pin any blame on the adventurers caught with my ill gotten trove. Afterwards, I would cross the border without issue. Meanwhile the sorry adventurer would be none the wiser."
Cavilhaugh exclaimed. His explanation rubbed me poorly as I was the one who ultimately accepted the mission. Still, he has a point. Maybe we were simply a decoy meant to be used as a distraction for the soldiers. Or maybe, this mission was meant to put an end to our careers as adventurers. I can't put that option passed me given I did make an enemy with a certain goddess who deals in secrecy.
