Chapter 3 - Leng Jin

Leng Jin wasn't your typical child, although his birth or lineage wasn't anything extraordinary, his composed and calculative character had ostracized him from the other children his age. This continued until he was 10 years old until he got separated from his family, the sect had a tradition of conducting a test on their servants' 10th birthday to see if they contained a spiritual root inside of them.

These spiritual roots allowed the person who possessed them to cultivate, these roots were graded from 1 to 7 with 7 being the highest. The average person would usually have anything from 1 to 4, the reason being that the spiritual root needs to have enough yin and yang energy as nourishment to increase in rank. After grade 4, grade 5 to 7 have a lower, middle, and upper rank, grade 7 high rank is considered a legend.

-Leng Jin, grade 5 lower-rank

-Mao Shin, grade 2, you can return home

-Luo Sheng, grade 6…

Leng Jin was lucky enough to have a grade 5. The sect needed new blood and were happy to see that this year had produced many potential students to continue the heritage of the sect. The sect was incredibly picky with their qualifications, most sects started their sorting selection at 12 years old, but the Medicine Pavilion didn't need fighters, they needed alchemists and poison doctors.

To qualify and enter the Medicine Pavilion, the children had to have a spiritual root of grade 3 or higher, the highest-grade root they received this year was grade 6 lower-rank. This batch was composed of 17 children, where a majority had grade 4 roots.

-All students gather around!

One of the sect elders came to watch the sorting process. All the children were brought in front of a stage with people wearing green and yellow robes.

-Today, you have the chance to choose what your future will bring! There are 3 places that you can go to begin your training, on our left there is Brother Shi Keng, he is one of many martial artists of our sect. In the middle is one of our doctors Tae Shi, under him you will learn how to recognize herbs and ways to make medicine! You will also be learning how to make poison and its antidotes; Doctor Tae Shi is incredibly strict and does not tolerate those who aren't willing to learn. And finally, there is Mu Ling, one of our senior alchemists, for those who fear getting hurt and lack patience, please choose him!

The sect elder wearing the black and white robe snickered to himself, his name is Mou Tang, he had lied about Mu Ling being lax. Alas, it had to be done to keep alchemy from becoming a dead art. Alchemy was incredibly hard, the amount of concentration and manipulation over the flames made it extremely arduous.

Slowly, everyone chose their masters with a majority going towards Doctor Tae Shi and alchemist Mu Ling. Only 3 out of the starting 17 chose Martial artist Shi Keng, Leng Jin was one of those 3. Shi Keng decided to ask what made them choose the profession of Martial Artists.

-For power!

-For greatness!

-Because you can't do anything without a strong body and a strong mind
